The lentil dumplings are typically made from urad dal (black gram) or moong dal (mung beans), which are soaked, ground into a batter, and then fried until golden brown. After frying, the dumplings are soaked in water to remove excess oil, and then they are soaked in beaten yogurt mixed with spices like salt, cumin, and sometimes sugar. Dahi bara is often served chilled and garnished with tamarind chutney, mint chutney, chaat masala, and sometimes sev (crunchy chickpea flour noodles) or pomegranate seeds for added flavor and texture. It's a popular street food and also commonly made at home for special occasions or festivals.
