- Very funny video demonstrating eradication of a bald-faced hornet nest using a garden hose sprayer and a badminton racquet. You can stand within 5 to 10 feet of the hornet nest and they don't link you to their destruction. I knocked the nest into a five gallon pail of water to drown the hornets and nest. The mop up using a badminton racquet gets your adrenalin flowing, but is not recommended if you are allergic or sensitive to pain. I've eliminated several nests this way.... works every time.

Thanks Joe!! It still cracks me up to watch it. I used a garden hose with a spray nozzle standing 10 feet away. The hornets don't associate you with the "rain" event. Glad you liked it!

These are also known as the "Bald Faced Hornet". They are very aggressive and this water trick seems to disorient them to the point that they can't respond. Very interesting.

Redditor here! In all my days browsing /r/videos, I have never come across such a blatant case of animal abuse. These poor hornets spent their entire lives building up their home and you walk in and blast it to nothing in a matter of seconds.
Obviously you are not a Redditor or you would have used a much classier weapon in the war against hornets, the weapon of debate. Through peaceful negotiation and debate, you should have been able to outwit these hornets and convince them that picking up and moving their home was in their best interest (as well as yours ;) ).

I also forgot to add that if you are going to use a tennis racket to hit the hornets (or bees, whatever) you might as well get one of those electrified rackets from Walmart. They sell them every summer and they work great. They really come in hand when the wasps try to attack me (and they do, every year)
I agree, they do work well... especially the type that takes two D cell batteries. Gives the bigger zap needed for the large hornets that eat the blackberries and cherries in the garden.

Hello it's a fellow bee biologist here and also have a PhD in bee studies from the university of reddit.com. Don't use water on bees as this will over hydrate the osmosis in they're bodies and cause them to combust and will cover your home in purple blood. It's not really a pleasant sight to see so please use a more human method like lighting the hive on fire or using a high powered explosive(use a Semtex,c4 or a grenade). I know how you feel Kristen. I actually like insects and possibly wouldn't have eradicated this nest if it wasn't on the shed. Every time I'd close the door the nest would erupt and it was just too dangerous to leave it anymore. My wife was stung the day before and I needed to snap out of nature admiring mode. Cheers.
