On June 12, 1964, Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment. Mandela and several other anti-apartheid activists were accused of sabotage against the state. In his 27-year jail term Mandela was confined to a small cell and was forced into hard labour. The Rivonia Trial is often referred to as “the trial that changed South Africa”. The trial took place between 1963 and 1964 in South Africa.
