    RE: "Puto" and "Puta"
While technically you can use both in their original spanish form, the reason why "Puto" specifically was turned into food is because of India.
Their word for (a specific dish of) Rice cake is "Puttu", which when put through many many centuries of Tagalog translation replaced the prostitute meaning because the food version of the word was much more used.
Addon: Puta and putangina are basically a 1:1 translation of bicc and sunuvabicc respectively.

Fun fact: México was never a Spanish colony. It was treated as part of Spain and all the people treated, for all intents and purposes, as citizens of Spain under the protection of the Spanish crown. You can actually read the letter from the queen Isabella I of Castile detailing the behavior that all Spaniards had to follow when going to the "New World".
The PH got the short end of the stick, with an entire different monarch.
