His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.

MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO.
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAC.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.

He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.

I've noticed that Genki is no fighter, and when Gentaro comes towards his mom to take food awY from her, she doesnt argue with him. She accepts him as a grown gorilla. Her boy is a man now, he has a role in the high arch rank. It wont be long before he leaves to start his own family. Genki knows this, its natural for a male to leave to start there own family. It would be one thing if this was a random act but it's not. I can't help it, after watching her perform disgusting, completely unnatural acts again and again, I'm totally grossed out by her. My experience is ruined with her.

It Seems this Zoo has a better place for this Family . Lots of places to climb. And the Other Zoo there that I watch Doesn’t Have a Place where their 5 Gorillas can Climb and Play. Only 1 spot out in the play yard.

@kingraham You're mistaken. He is only bothering her because she taught him this behavior. From the time he was a very small baby she had her head where it didn't belong. He had no clue. SHE WAS THE AGGRESSOR. She would even try to somehow mount a baby. She is disturbed.

Great video. I’ve seen this often with monkeys, but they are usually babies, never one as old as Kintaro. Sometimes it’s part of a thorough cleaning and other times it’s to sooth or distract the baby but it’s usually brief and practical. What’s so disturbing to me is Kintaro’s age and it doesn’t appear to be her cleaning or a quick distraction. I’ve also not seen another gorilla mom practice this. I don’t follow them all closely. Captivity can breed unnatural behaviors that are passed down generationally that diminish their chances of surviving in the wild. This family will be passing on several.
AnaArtg, Steve Morris, both of you mentioned Shabini who is a male, have either of you seen or read about any gorilla mothers doing this? Like I mentioned, monkey moms like Rhesus and Long-tailed I’ve seen do something similar, including sucking out any anal blockages as well. Also, what can look sexual to humans is just routine grooming to primates. I admit, I’ve seen her do this before and it doesn’t look like grooming to me. I do know many uncommon and even destructive behaviors develop in zoos and I’m not sure what this is.
I do understand the translation problem. Even the channel creators have he, her, she and him translation mix ups. Thank you for more details. I see comments using chan, san and a few others that must mean something similar in the Japanese language.
This has been going on since Kintaro was a baby. One video, I can't remember on which channel, when he was maybe one, possibly two, years old, Genki had her head between his legs, but when she tried to pull away, he grabbed her head and began humping her face. That was truly disturbing.
Als Gentaro 5 Jahre alt war, hat sie das sehr lange mit dem Kleinen gemacht und man konnte genau sehen, dass ihm das sehr unangenehm war! Gentaro hat mir so leid getan, er war ihr ausgeliefert und konnte sich nicht wehren. 😥 Am Ende hat sie auch noch versucht, seine linke Brustwarze abzukratzen, als sei es ein Pickel. 🤢
@AnaArtg I’ve seen other primate mothers groom, clean and even to distract upset babies briefly by licking their genitalia, but not at Kintaro’s age. I know some adult gorillaI females engage in oral “foreplay” to entice the silverback to mount them when in estrus. but I’ve never come across something that looks quite like this. I think like the channel creator “I’m not sure” either.

I’ve read some very **Insightful and Informative** comments here 👍🏽 regarding what Seemingly appears to be UNNATURAL behavior between Mum Genki and Kintaro and Gentaro. I’m inclined to Agree that this behavior is Most Likely due to Captivity which has Evidently caused several types of Mental Illnesses perhaps in Not Only Genki, but Also the entire family. Therefore, it is my plea 🙏🏽 to the Zookeepers that if they care Anything at all about these Precious Beautiful Animals they will ACT QUICKLY and Mercifully to make corrections and to bring Relief to the Troop. After all, it shouldn’t just be about the ENTERTAINMENT of humans!!! We are their Caretakers and they should be able to live their lives with DIGNITY and in GOOD HEALTH 💟💜

So, so far, we've had the following explanations of Genki's maneuvres on Kintaro's private parts: cleaning, health check, hormone level check, soothing Genki's nerves, soothing Kintaro's nerve, pure pleasure-seeking. As I see, whatever the reason/goal is, job is done - private parts are clean, healt is checked, nerves are soothed, pleasure is found, everyone's happy. So, can anyone explain what's actually wrong with this behaviour?

Think Gentaro is suffering from growing pains. He’s in many ways still very young emotionally. His mom of course loves him but at his age he’s supposed to be pushed out. But I wish Taro was like Shabani in his relationship to Gentaro. Taro is somewhat dysfunctional an stoic
