- Today, I've taken a trip down to Crawley which is not too far from Gatwick Airport to visit Turtle Bay which is famous for two things. It's cocktails and it's Carribean cuisine which is a first for the channel! Lets give it a go!

Hi from Ontario Canada again, my Dad used to say 'had my ears lowered' and as kids we thought it was just silly Dad. Now I'd give anything to hear him say it again. Thanks for another fantastic video Gary. You make me think of all the places that he used to talk about and all the British food he loved. He was born in a London hospital that's no longer there and flew in the Royal air force in WW2 and settled in Canada. No matter where he went, England was his home. He'd be right here with me enjoying your wonderful sense of humour if he was still here. You do more than review food and restaurants. You make people happy. Cheers.

Gary’s channel works because he comes across as an incredibly nice guy and he approaches each restaurant/meal with an everyman /relatable approach. Still to this day, the freshest food and best rum I’ve consumed is in St Lucia. Absolute paradise too. It’s the kind of place where it is impossible to feel unhappy. Great video as always Gary!

Yes, Gary finally indulges in our Jamaican delights. You need to go deffo go Sabina Park for a game as the vibe and atmosphere is insane. Advise if you go ever to Jamaica, please venture outside Montego Bay (tourist area) so you get to see the real life of Jamaica i.e Portland, St Thomas, Port Royal. The food never dissapoints. ps. You need to try Ackee & saltfish and patties (like cornish pasty).

Ackee and saltfish is great! I worked with many Jamaicans in South London, and a few are lifelong friends. I wish I had visited Jamaica. I would not have gone to Montego Bay. Should have taken Claire, but she had her man at the time, or Rastaman Jimbo. My late brother adopted him for a son. I've been to Barbados twice, and Antigua, but I'm too old to go back to the Caribbean to end my days!
chain restaurants have really taken a tumble over the last few years so good to see this one bucking the trend. Enjoyable as usual Gary

Exact same. I don’t understand what has me drawn so much to this man but I could watch him review eating food all day long😂. Used to watch ratemytakeaway alot but there is something about Gary that stands out from all the rest.
He reminds me of an olden day chief inspector could fit right in in the sweeney Carter and Reagan s boss.

Goat curry - what's not to like. My mate is from St Vincent and cooks curried goat. As for his BBQ technique- i call him 'lid down Dave'. He puts the meat on. Very little heat. BBQ lid down. Leave it doing it's thing. Gorgeous food. Thanks for the vlog Gary. The food looked amazing. Nicely charred equals good flavour.

Went to Turtle bay Bristol on Good Friday. The jerk chicken and slaw with fries was my choice. Considering it was packed the waitress was spot on, and the food arrived in about 15 minutes. Enjoyed it. Spicy.

Turtle Bay in Exeter is fantastic. Exeter University students love it, as the cocktails are 2 for 1 at certain times which makes it great value. Vegan Jerk Chicken with coconut rice and peas is only £14.50. Superb value for money, catering for all dietary requirement, fun atmosphere and lovely staff.

It doesn't work, mate, trust me. I once ate 3 genuinely huge meals within 18hrs and still felt peckish after watching a Gary Eats post.
I have been to the Turtle Bay in Winchester quite a few times and really like it. Not only is the food very good but it is generally a nice place.

Hi Gary, been to Turtle Bay and we really liked it, we had the Jerk platter and a few beers, it was really nice, we were extremely surprised as we weren't expecting such high quality from a chain restaurant. Especially enjoyed the chicken and the sausages, not too much of fan of ribs, but the wife loved them, but couldn't finish them. We gave it an 8 out of 10. (My stepdad was from Jamaica!)...NEVER refer to that rice dish as 'Rice with Kidney Beans'!!!...It is Rice and Peas!!!... and such a shame you were driving...Goat Curry NEEDS a can or Red Stripe Beer (or 2 cans??!!!)..Maybe next time try a 'Rundown' (stew) or some Salt Fish and Ackee... and who knows, if you are close enough to walk home, the a slurp of overproof rum to wash it all down!!!!

Turtle bay is very unauthentic, went once and would never go back. If you ever come to Birmingham go to Jamayas its an award winning caribbean restaurant and the cocktails are to die for

Even as a vegetarian there's usually something you have that appeals to me visually.
This is probably the first time I haven't felt that.
I'm also vegetarian (mostly vegan), but I do love watching Gary's reviews too.

Hi Gary we ate at the Turtle Bay in Coventry last year and had a very good experience. Shared a few small plates and then we both had the curry goat hash which was delicious. A bit fatty but maybe goat is just like that. Similar interior but it was rather noisy on a busy Saturday night! Maybe they turn the music up. The service was excellent, very friendly and helpful as it was our first visit so we needed a lot of the menu explained to us!

Go to Barbados for two weeks every March ,local Caribbean restaurant close to us in Holetown is Just Grillin fantastic food at incredible prices coupled with a few Banks beers. Fantastic videos Gary, keep em coming as we look out for them🇧🇧

Absolutely love your down to earth approach Gary, irrespective of whether you are reviewing the most high end restaurants, or your bog standard eatery you are just amazing. My son and his friends visited here last year and he highly recommended this venue, and he is a very fussy eater.

If you like Caribbean food you MUST try Cottons. It blows Tirtle Bay out the water. Especially Monday and Tuesday when it’s 50%off the jerk madness menu. They have three places in London.

Gary, i have to say i like it when you review chain or multiple restaurant places of differing food types. I often find myself wandering past places ive never been to, looking at the menu, then bottling it and going somewhere ive been before. With your reviews it gives me much more of a heads up and the will to try the places you have reviewed. If that makes sense! I also still think you should do a Fazenda!

Top work as always Gary. We've been to that very restaurant a few times over the last year and the service, vibe and quality is consistently very good. The 2 for 1 on drinks is great too, especially for those who like their cocktails (or mocktails). If you's like some pointers on where to go next, have a look at Dorking and Reigate - plenty of choice and the latter especially is very foodie!

Wow that looked fantastic and will give it a go, the whole meal brought back alot of memories as I was lucky enough to do that adventure on your bucket list and visited the Carribean to follow the england Cricket tour in 94, one of the highlights of the Test Matches there is the little stalls behind the grandstands manned by locals cooking fresh Goat Curries (very aromatic) and more locals with machetes preparing fresh coconuts and pineapples. Sorry to waffle but that stream brought the memories back.

Wow.. looks amazing, reminded me of when I used to work trains out of Clapham yard, bought back memories, thanks Gary … 👍🏻 .. there was a Caribbean takeaway cafe just outside there that made the most amazing goat curry … during our PNB (physical needs break) that was the place to go …. 😋
It was good, not the most authentic but good nonetheless
I have a TB near me and I've never really been over impressed with it, it's ok but it's also expensive. They have deals on cocktails on a Friday night but I've never been overly impressed with the cocktails, if you take advantage of the deals it's ok, but it gets busy at those times.

Last time I went there was with my work colleagues. The jerk chicken is always beautiful but the curry goat lacks flavour but it's not bad. I am glad you had a great time and the food is lovely and a bit expensive but tasty. Thank you for sharing your experience with us Gary ❤️

As chains go I really enjoyed Turtle Bay when I visited their Birmingham branch. It’s the only time I’ve tried Caribbean food so I had nothing to compare it off. The Goat curry was tasty.

Another good chain(ish) restaurant with excellent cocktails is burger joint "Meat Liquor". Think they have six or seven places now. All started from a burger van in a pub car park.

I went to the Caribbean once, visited Puerto Rico, Bahamas, St Maarten, St. Thomas on a ship called Enchantment of the Seas. Once in a lifetime trip. The food here looks delicious. I gave it 8/10 before your score this time. My Jamaican assistant, Claire, whan I was working back in Peckham, invited me round for Saltfish and Ackee, which was nice. A traditional dish. In Barbados our housekeeper, Arlette, used to cook up flying fish for breakfast, straight off the boat, and her mum used to knock up a great BlackPudding and Souse. Some great food we had with the Bajans. We were staying in a beach cottage well away from the other tourists.The locals looked after us very well. Caribbean food is great. I looked for those 2 dishes, but they weren't on the menu. Flying fish wouldn't be anyway. I wish I could return to Barbados! I like goats too much to eat some, mind. More of a Jamaican dish, anyway.
This is my first try on the channel of Caribbean food and for a chain it was very good

The best way to start is going on camera doing some trial videos and see how you get on
