    I loved how it looked regardless. It's different, and sometimes on your channel you tend to say car designs have been lookin very similar. This one didn't and that's what I appreciated about it. Only problem I had with it are the headlights, they were way too high up on the car, if they were put Lower the car would have looked slightly more in proportion even without most of the other changes you made to it. Either way I like both yours and the original design but i just think that it probably was their identity to have mean looking bat mobile styled car

    • @blairbrown4812
      @blairbrown4812 Před 3 lety +1

      I happen to agree that the Fenryr Supersport could make an excellent Batmobile, but I think the purpose of the designers was to make the whole front of the car a wolf-themed design, to tie in with the Fenryr name. Come to think of it, the whole first generation of W Motors lineup is basically wolf themed

  • @supersnail5000
    @supersnail5000 Před 4 lety +286

    I’m and big fan and I know you’re obviously far more skilled in this and have more training than me, but do you not feel there’s room to move away from the traditional design conventions you talk about. Whether thats typical line flow or proportions. Yeah, the original car might not look traditionally natural or beautiful, but I think that makes it look brutal and inorganic. It’s in the same way some art will purposely break conventions of colour theory or proportion to give a more striking effect.
    Van Gogh is one of the most accredited artists in history now, but people originally saw his work with harsh colours and incorrect perspective and shunned it. Do you not think car design will get tired if we neuter every design to follow these traditional design values, especially now with electric car changing the required layout of a car.

    • @Marrrrtin
      @Marrrrtin Před 4 lety +32

      Interesting perspective! I think companies/people trying new design ideas/techniques is always good, and I'm sure Marouane agrees. Rules are "made to be broken"! However I think it's important to find a balance between organic and 'inorganic' design, because what would the most inorganic design be? It wouldn't be very cohesive, because cohesion is organic. However, cohesion is very important in design, and I think the problem with these cars from W Motors is not the styling (design language), but the actual design itself not being cohesive enough. Marouane finds it a bit random and "smashed together".
      About Van Gogh, I would say that he used a lot of contrasting colours, but ones that are monochromatic, complementary, or analogous, so they still follow colour theory (at least my modern-day understanding of colour theory). Design, like colour harmony, is subjective, so what looks good to you may not to others. However, design principles and colour theory are the guidelines we use to make sure we are more likely to create a 'good' design that many people will find aesthetically pleasing.
      I think it's mostly design trends that make modern car design already very tired, as many new cars look very similar today. I'm thinking of things like big front grilles, narrow headlights, over-styled angular body lines, LED DRLs and light bars, etc. I'm sure there will be plenty of radical but also pleasing car designs in the near future with the increase of EVs.

      I agree with you, I like these very out there designs. A lot of times I feel like thesketchmonkey just makes the designs more conventional and boring. I've always hated the fact that concept car designs just get so boring once the car comes out. Luckily for me that has changed a lot in the last years!

      @xzraiderzx308 Před 4 lety +20

      While I agree with you, this redesign didn't make the car look any more "traditional" as you imply since the key graphical elements that make it special are still there, it only made it more proprtionally sound and cohesive.

    If you ask a classically trained typographer to evaluate Graffiti, they’ll pretty much echo your views when it comes to shape, lines, curves and volume. However as a typographer I can appreciate good graffiti as it challenges the norm which allows us to move forward with our own understanding.
    I like the fact the arch ends and there’s no continuation of the shape after the gap. Also the miss alignment of the bumper detail is done on purpose. I feel you’re not used to seeing details like this and struggle to make sense of it.
    I didn’t dislike your edits. As usual your skills are tremendous.

      I agree, though I think original is a lot cooler,. The exaggerated line flow and indeed the intentional line breaks make much more of an impact on me, and keeps the design from looking generic. While skilled, I think Sketch makes it look too much like a Lamborghini or something traditional.

    • @jj72rg
      @jj72rg Před 4 lety

      I think ultimately these sort of busy design details get lost and lose their effectiveness after the first impact, an artist friend once said good art is what you remembers after you stopped looking at it. Fuzziness becomes a blur of random shapes that can be one way or another without any justification, you can draw the lines on the engine cover 100 different ways, all different but ultimately all lacking in reasoning and purpose. I think cars as a medium should be long lasting and less throwaway than most other form of design. (not dissing graphic design cos I came from that background as well), but when I design a car I always think about what can people 30 or 40 years down the line learn from it, does it reflect the state of our society now and does it present itself as something worth keeping even when objectively better performing cars will eclipse it as a transportation device?

    A polite way to describe the Fenyr's design language: eclectic, with fangs.
    I honestly kinda sorta like it - the arched fenders, the angular front graphics, and the use of negative space in the rear bumper (or lack thereof) - but your redesign made a world of difference! It looks much more "luxurious" whilst still being just as "discrete" aka distinct/unique.

The front, the fenders and the rear all hit hard with anger, we dont see that much in cardesigns anymore. The only part that doesn't hit hard is the midsection, wich should be more over the top to match. I like your take, but feel like it weakens the main selling point of this car, while keeping the overly soft midsection.

    Sharp lines and angles everywhere. Curvitures everywhere. Look at the car and close your eyes. You cant remember more than 3 lines at the moment.

    Amazing explanation on this cars flaws. I never felt like lykan is trying to find its design identity though because if you notice the rear engine cover converting to the spoiler it has a flow to it and the headlight s have that typical lykan design and the arrow/ triangular type of side intakes above the rear fender also is a clear identification for the lykans. But after seeing the video I do now see how odd the car actually is and the hotwheels toy car resemblance.😆 I also feel that more designers are taking aid of computer generated designs and some example are of the puffer fish inspired concept car or that biome car. I think in the end what attracts a person to a car is natural organic nature based design language and maximum simplicity which is what nature provides in some ways.

    I respectfully disagree that the original car looks bad. I think the over-the-top styling and excess of lines is intentional, and the design really pops to me.
    That being said, your design looks pretty awesome! I really liked how you made the entire thing look so much more cohesive.

    Wasn’t this car built off a heavily modified corvette chassis? I could be wrong.
    But it looks like they look a LOT of styling cues from the Bertone Mantide(built off of a C6 Corvette ZR1) But from a company with deeper pockets.
    (Bertone barely made it off the ground, but this car is proof that the Mantide was ahead of its time)

    ooof I made it 420 lol. i get where you are coming from, and an avid art freak like me also wants to just fix it, but a lot of the linings were made for maximum downforce, or aerodynamics, and that is actually really important for a street speed freak

  • @kianabay3977
    @kianabay3977 Před 3 lety

    So, I think the redesign does look better, but there are a few things that I don't like. The area around the side grilles at the front bumper looks wayy too empety for such a complex design, and the thicc fender and c-pillar were characteristic design features of the car, that support the whole design language(of sharp aggressiveness with few kinda organic flowing lines to break it up a little) in a very effective way. For the triangular "thing" below the side intakes at the front, I would've gone for something inbetween the real car and your redesign, and the fenders should've stayed in their original size in my opinion.

  • @sproutingresilience4787

    I think this car would look nice with similar styling to the Ford gt with a teardrop shaped cockpit and have the fenders be sort of buttressed off to the sides

    it looks about as real as the last one did. for the Lyken Police interceptor(What else would it be?) The light package on the roof needs to be more aerodynamic. And this car looks like the outcome from a threeway between a Lambo, A McLaren and the Citron (Sih-tr-on) that was originally in a Playstation game.

  • @Bablobiggins
    @Bablobiggins Před 4 lety

    I think it's a fairly cool looking car, if a bit over the top and unconventional. The part that bothers me is that the giant front side intakes, or whatever is the proper name, underneath the headlights, they make the car look very narrow from the front.
