“So…that was a LOT of information …” it wasn’t a lot of information - it’s a lot of smokin’ playing and some cool chops ideas that can be grabbed only by really advanced players …
CZcams suggesting this video after 3 years it's amazing! It showed up in mine's, and I'm glad it did, always have a lot of respect for you, your ideas and work ethic. I'll try to use some of this for my own! P.S. Glad to see a video from some years ago, compared to the way you're playing now, shows the evolution 😄Keep going Steve!
I love the concept and the ideas but I wish you gave us examples that we could put into practice like a specific pattern or something. Everything made sense but not sure how to apply it
Yeah, that is some wildly quick playing. The way I have been approaching it is to keep a steady pattern on the ride with my right hand and left foot, and then practice rudiments between my right foot on kick and left hand on snare. Instead of RLRL LRLR on hands, for example, playing KLKL LKLK between snare and bass. I think that is the premise of what he is doing, but he's going much faster and moving between different rudiments and ride patterns more freely because he can.
You mentioned a band thats on the warp record label which uses this type of stuff but I can not find them anywhere could you spell the name please , Great lessons and great playing really enjoying your approach thanks simon
I think he's talking about mixing linear and double stops between the bass drum and snare. I agree it's not really clear regarding the "why" or the steps on how he got there. It would probably help to break things down into some specific examples. There's some cool stuff going on between the kick and snare but I had to slow it down to half speed to understand what the objective is. Great playing indeed...
I think what he’s trying to say is you want to be able to play on both sides of the beat meaning the downbeat 1234 e’s and ands Of the groove without changing the feel of flow of his playing. All of this being utilized/continued through his growth of true independence around the kit. I think just being able to flow back and fourth on the groove without it sounding obvious that he’s trying to do just that…. All at a high tempo utilizing linear patterns and through the use of doubles, being able to flow between the feels all while smoothly accompanying the band as musically as possible. Unforced.
“Independence doesn’t mean anything unless i find it in a musical way to relate to others”
favorite takeaway
I don't think I understood what to practice, but it sounded amazing.
this popped up in my suggestions even though it's 3 years old. Still a banger
me and you both lol

It helped me a lot to watch this at a slower speed.
u got that right~i did the same thing! still cant play it LOL
You absolutely fly with your technique. Give your ears space and the rest will solve itself.
That Patt M trio cd is one of my favorites too
That lesson was very helpful!! Thank you
Be working on freeing my left hand in up tempo settings thank you for the lesson!
Beautiful playing Steve. Lots of great ideas here, very helpful.

love your playing but this is not a lesson, you are kinda just stating your goals and then shredding lmao
Very cool ,What type of Agop Ride is that and what weight? Thank you

I'm sorry, but which drum kit did you use in this video?
This is a craviotto kit. It’s just about as beautiful as this dudes playing…. Wow.
even when you explain things I don't know what's going on. I can't tell if I'm unqualified for this video or if you're bad at explaining
Probably me

not sure where you teach your lesson here
❤️
How do you get your hands to move that fast
That's what I thought the lesson was gonna be but nope
Really cool. Are you playing heel down on the bass drum for the quick doubles, and overall?
Down
Apologies for the snark but: "Lessons don't mean anything unless we understand what you're doing." Please, break it down for us slowly.
Dude slow it down so we can see what you're doing.
brother you are nuts
sheesh
kit sounds clunky
