In the description of the last video • Good Sample with bad d... , I mentioned that I've now broken down drum production into 5 simple steps. Today, let's talk about sound selection.
For Boombap, it already given you the key - just pick a kick that goes "Boom" and a snare that goes "Bap" 🧐But why don't your drums sound as distinctive as other producers? Or why don't they sounds like form a set? That's because drum selection doesn't require any technical skills, it's all about taste-your unique taste.
You need to listen to drum loops from old 📀records of the 80s and 90s. Listening is the quickest shortcut to learning how to choose drums. At the same time, think about where their drums sit in the frequency range. Try experimenting by attempting to replicate their loops. Close CZcams and stop Googling sound selection tutorials. In 2023, I spent a lot of time searching for Boombap drum sound selection tutorials online, and all those "clickbait" videos didn't really provide answers. (cuz there's no answer for this)
Starting now, just listen, replicate, and experiment. 💪After 10-20 serious hours, you'll develop your unique taste in sound selection.

Dang that maschine studio is a very expensive "controller" just to use it like that. lool Sounds good though.
😁😁😁Yeah, but back around 11 years ago, I saved up for a long time to get this Maschine Studio, and I used it seriously and extensively. However, since around 2020, I've found myself not enjoying Maschine's workflow as much, so I repurposed it as a MIDI controller. Just a few days ago, I got myself an MPC One,it's the first MPC I ever had, and now I'm diving deep into learning and experimenting with it. Finally starting to feel the charm of going dawless.
That worth plus song is worth more than millions dollar we made remix and new songs that noone had its more than that billion dollars

😁Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. I always like to play around and try different things. The only constant is that all my drum loops are made using Maschine Studio in Maschine 2.
