He just uses one of the fingers he’s not using on the current chord
Not overdubbed. Great technique, by using his thumb to play the bass note of the chord it frees up his pinky allowing that to make embellishments.
It's pretty easy if you play guitar.

Just my personal opinion. I never have heard a good kurt cobain cover. Kurt had a one of a kind voice. People try but just cant get his sound. This guy did Black which he did amazing and i have heard a couple other bands cover Black that sounded like Eddie which is rare in itself. But i havent seen a replica of someone matching Kurts voice.

@@ktrock77 I think bowie preferred Kurt's version too, he was so astonished, his biggest regret was never asking him why he covered that song.
