  • Very rare footage from the Championship winning side of 1985. Apologies for poor quality in parts but has been taken from original club footage from the Main Stand camera and VHS recordings. A lot of the goals have never been released before.
    Hope you enjoy.

One day we may be. But as your comment is 7 years old I am glad for you that you couldn't see into the future as the last 3 years would have sent you doolally. COYBs.

Absolutely adored every one of theses players , and still do to this day . Did not realise then that this would be the greatest Everton side ever . Great times .

This is great for me because I'm only 15 so I sadly haven't seen us win a trophy yet :( but now I can at least look at the beautiful football that the legends of 85' played

When the 1966 World Cup games were played at Goodison the TV Cameras were mounted an a gantry fixed to the old Goodison Road stand. This provided wider camera shots that made Goodison one of the most admired stadiums in the world.
The great Portuguese player, Eusebio said it was his favourite ground, and he had played in all the major world stadiums.
Sadly the Everton board did not want their games Televised in the 60s.
And this led to no TV Gantry being constructed in the new Main stand when it was built in 1970. After which TV Crews were located on a high platform hanging from the Bullen's Road stand. As a result the commentators had to access the platform by ladders.
The games then looked as if they were filmed from the roof of a high rise flat
No wide angle shots of the goal areas and limited images of all around the ground.
Sadly younger fans can only see rare footage of Alan Ball and Co at their finest, which was described by many as the best post -war team up to 1970.
Having seen the 1962-63 and 69-70 championship sides, and great players like Alex Young, Roy Vernon and Alan Ball. Howard Kendall's all conquering 1984-85 side proved the finest ever due to the near treble they achieved, and a second title 2 years later. Europe was not open to them to showcase why they were voted the best team in Europe in 1985.
The other sides didn't win other trophy's in their championship seasons.

Interesting comparing the styles of this side with the 69/70 side. The former are easier on the eye, moving it about sweetly and walking a lot of their goals in. But it's easy to see why they turned out to be a flash in the pan. They had no destroyers. 84/85 team on the other hand had a much meaner streak. Incredibly competitive. They put opposition defences under so much pressure they wilted. See how Man Utd crumble in this video! Thanks for sharing. Current crop of lightweights should be forced to study this.

I'm a Manchester City season ticket holder since 1976, the 80s wasn't a great time for us, but I remember this fantastic Everton team, a great side that really gelled well together, certainly one of the best title winning teams from the pre premier league era. I'm sure Derek mountfield scored 15 goals from CH, that season. What a shame this team never got the chance to compete in the European cup, when you consider Staeua Bucharest won it the following year, I think Everton would have had a great chance, had it not been for those murdering bastards running amok in Brussels. Remember that 5-0 thrashing of the rags, gave them some stick about that.

Adrian Heath, instrumental in the turn around in Everton's fortunes. Also an Everton fan as a boy despite living in Stoke. After a 15 year gap, the Blues win the title again.

Fantastic stuff mate, really made my day watching these. Have you got highlights of both of Everton's European games v Fortuna Sittard, the 2-1 at Spurs and the 3-0 v Norwich? If so, pleeeeease upload them. I've managed to get hold of TV highlights of 20 games from 84/85, but those games I've mentioned are as rare as rocking horse sh*t. Cheers.

You're right mate, Norwich goals are on the video part 3. It's actually the full ITV/BBC highlights I'm trying to hunt down. ESPN Classic showed 'A Season To Remember' a few years back and it was all the Match of the day stuff from 84/85. I recorded every Everton game featured, but they never showed anything shown on Sportsnight and obviously nothing ITV. Love a copy of this rare video if possible. If you think you'd like a swap for any of my DVDs, email me at phillowe@live.co.uk. for a list. Ta
