    Thank you so very much for this video!! I watched the entire video this morning and had complete confidence to change the spark plugs in my father’s 2013 Honda Pilot an hour later. We were both extremely thankful since we were on a 1200 mile trip in which misfires cost us an entire day of travel. We stopped at an Auto Zone, purchased the plugs, borrowed their tools and changed them in the parking lot. Thank you again for such a thorough video and explanation of everything!

    This may be the best car maintenance video I have ever seen. Lighting and camera were excellent. Explanations were clear. Everything step by step, nothing skipped. Nothing off camera. After watching, I can do this!
    23:24 Another CZcams video gave this tip: use two 3" extensions. Put them in one at a time. Much easier than trying to force a 6".

    This is why I am always buying more tools. A universal joint on the spark plug socket, a deep well spark plug socket, a spark plug socket with a swivel, a different length extension, a flex head ratchet handle.... all of those options could have made a big difference.

    Got my 2014 done today - took less than 1.5 hours. The only thing I did differently was add a very small amount of anti-seize to the threads (out going plugs we pretty bad) and a light coating of dielectric grease to the boots. Some old school teachings still haunt me.
    Plugs cost me ~$12 ea locally - I could get them cheaper from Rock Auto, but didn't want to wait, #3 cyl was throwing a misfire since last week.

    well you just gave me the confidence to go out and buy my own spark plugs and have a saturday morning project to save me a few hundred bucks. Dealer just quoted me over $400. Super clear video and I have all the tools here to include the magnetic socket which may help lower the new plugs in. How would you know it is time to also do the coils and not just the plugs?

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  Před 3 měsíci +1

      if you are getting misfires you would want to swap the coil on the cylinder that is misfiring to a different cylinder to see if the misfire switches cylinders. if no misfires then your fine just replacing the plugs. If you want peace of mind and while your in there your more than welcome to replace them.

    • @RMatSLU79
      @RMatSLU79 Před 3 měsíci

      I followed your video and had all 6 done in less than 3 hours. I’m a newbie but this made it as easy as it could be. Autozone rented me a torque wrench for free when I bought the spark plugs from them so that helped inserting the plugs per specs. My plugs were very old and looked burnt so I am glad I changed them. The issue I’m still having seems to also be related to VCM issues. I’m in the middle of purchasing a device to disable the VCM to see if that helps with my vehicle running weird when it warms up. It’s very smooth when I first start driving but after a few minutes, I get some idle issues. Fingers crossed.

Maybe take off fuel injectors or whatever is on top of the plugs to get more room?

    • @MobileCarMechanic

      I needed to step on a stool as I’m shorter than you to do the rear. The rear looks intimidating but you’ll have good access for sure to the first 2 from the rear left. The 3rd one can be a bit of a pain due to a hard line being in the way but it’s possible. The lines and hoses are what’s in the way and I think they may be coolant and ac related so that would complicate things.

      It means that your valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals need to be replaced as it’s allowing oil to enter.

    I'd Probably also change the ignition coil while your there, especially the ones in against the firewall

      That is a good recommendation but we chose not to replace as we didn’t have issues and the originals seemed fine. But definitely something to look into so you don’t have to go back through the hassle.
