Starting clubbing at the Colosseum in Daytona beach early-mid 90’s…. Quickly graduated to the o-town scene… Firestone, Icon, then back to Daytona to go ol’ Sol Rays! Down & dirty Daytona beach!
Man that was a special time in South Florida! Most people don’t even believe me when I’ve tried to explain how parties used to be back then. It’s a shame that era had to end. This shit takes me back tho!
UV was pumpin then as well lot of underground DJ's had limited time open table's on certain nights and it was endless way into noon if not longer this mix brings back so many memories and fun time's.... hand's illll mix 💯💯💯💯💯💯👍
I was 17 at the turn of the century as well. I hadn't jumped on the decks yet but was definitely bumping this kind of music loudly around Jacksonville, having just moved there from Clearwater 6 months prior.
I used to DJ in all the Florida clubs.. especially in Tampa... Rick West was my roommate for a while... I still work with artists in the EDM market nowadays... but run a full-scale Recording Studio now.. Flare Recordings... nice mix!! Takes me back.. I used to go by the moniker dj euophoria...
I met Rick once through a friend of mine. He was very nice and respectful. My friend told me he was a bit of a recluse, but I've never heard a DJ mix smoother than Mr West. I used to go to a record store in Tampa or Ybor and buy his monthly mix tapes back in 98. I believe I remember a DJ Euphoria, but can't pin the time. I do miss Rick and was saddened by his departure. Thank God he left us some of the greatest mixes of the year. Godspeed.
I used to dj at all of those clubs...lol.... last party I threw was in 03. First time Trashy dj in fl... with Malicious Mike, Keith Berry, and myself ...the moniker ( Euphoria)
I was and always will be a Sol-Rays Rat. Greatest club of it's time (97-01) I believe. I life started at Ultraviolet in 94, then Firestone and Edge, and wrapping up at Cyberzone and Sol-Rays. Special thanks to Sasha & Digweed Renaissance, Rick West Flavor X, Dave London, and Mike and Charlie: Just Funkin for charging my party circles with energy back in the day. Of course the Beachball and Pepperspray Anthems will always be in my heart. Godspeed to all the Ol Skool family dancers and DJs for helping a lost teen find himself back in the 90s. I still listen to Breaks every day, as I haven't found anything else that can put me in a great mood faster.
From the days when you could be a thousand people deep in a warehouse rave, and everyone was kosher with eachother. It's too bad how the world keeps changing. The late 90s being 18ish, was definitely an experience to say the least.
Left Flint Michigan in 91 for South Florida all my rock and roll friends there will never understand too bad they missed out while getting their asses kicked at their puke parties
The early 90s on the East Coast between Washington DC and Boston was my so called summer of love. Didn't matter where you were from everyone was a friend during those early years. There will be nothing like that again and it's to bad. To many options and to many clicks.
I'm from Texas and I was extremely blessed to know a group of friends who loved breakbeat. Florida was an oasis of different and interesting music back when the entire world was completely saturated with house and trance. Breakbeat was the "They Might Be Giants" genre of electronic music back then; Everyone loved it, but they wouldn't admit it.
I'm from Florida. I loved breakbeat back then, admitted I loved it. To this day I tell people that aren't from this state that Florida breaks was the best and I'm not just saying that bcuz I'm from Florida. Blew everything else away.
This is my favorite oldschool set! This was the soundtrack to my life every weekend for about 5 solid years of my life at Escapades (Metairie, LA). It was nothing but Florida breaks in the 90s!! Good times... Good times.

Around 40 min in or so they sandwich those two records in for a long mix and I like it! We used to run long mixes , I never hear anybody doing it in a long time , thanks for sharing this mix!!!
