Volk could NOT simply wait for the Islam rematch. Islam was talking about fighting Colby after Charles. The rematch was never a guarantee.
Wich is funny because Leon's the champ..
@@HauntzTVhe was saying that if Leon wins, he doesn’t think he’d be down for the champ champ fight. Where as Colby has already mentioned Islam by name.
I doubt they give Islam a shot at champ champ, not until like 3-4 defences
@@HauntzTVIslam wants to beat up Colby, he doesn’t care as much about the belt. Plus Colby vs Islam is way more interesting.
Then he should either wait after Islam fights Colby or fight the next champion if Islam decides to relinquish his belt
Romeros forearms connect to his elbows and no tapering thickness, then his elbows to his biceps/triceps are seemingly the same size too. Like a plumbing joint - the elbow socket wasn’t smaller than either side, it just happen to be able to bend. I got to wrestle a tiny bit in cuba with him in 2010 but I was also 8 classes smaller so big grains of salt. He’s on another level of freak athlete. Guy has leg arms. With knelbows. RIP The Chris. Still my boy.
I trained with him here in a gym last year, around cutler bay. He was still explosive and workouts 2-3 times a day. Very disciplined man and as real as it gets.
Volk has always said he wants to keep fighting, wants to stay active. Him taking possibly the biggest fight of his career on 11 days notice is entirely within Volks character
It's his last desperate attempt with a thousand built in excuses
@@nmdc93Just be thankful you still have a main event

So is accusing a man of cheating without a shred of evidence.
Though, we're supposed to pretend that never happened, right?

Man a young Yoel Romero would've gone down as one of the all time greats in 185lbs
Or maybe if he ever… wrestled
@@Lisence2chillcan’t because of his neck injury. Had paralyze himself trying to wrestle.
IMO he is a top ten MW still, with wins over 2 former champions. Very few 185ers even today would beat him
Totally disrespectful to say Romero would beat Anderson Silva. Silly conversation to say he'd have 20 title defenses. If if if. Just dumb. Sorry.
@@paulfrancois765320 defenses? What drugs are you on ?
Hard to gauge how Jake would do when he's only boxed 50 year olds or old short wrestlers.
Exactly I feel like he gave him way too much respect 😂
Jake is surrounded by yes men and money.
@@MagnetDzn gullible people gets easily manipulated
Yea please lets not waste podcast time with the youtubers 😅
U could of just said “boxed 50 year olds and Woodley” lol
About the Yoel Romero speculation, let's not forget Matt Lindland was also an olympic silver medalist and he trained with Randy Couture, who had a lot of knowledge of MMA and Team Quest were masters at game planning. Plus, Romero defected Cuba in Germany in 2007. We all know MMA was not predominant in that region at that time. Therefore, the speculation that Romero would have 20 title defenses and be the G.O.A.T. is a bit of a stretch.
Bro you need to understand that people back then sucked ass. Matt Lindland wouldn’t do shit to Yoel, that’s just facts.
winning 2 out his last 7 is still pretty legendary.... yoel is the goat
Volk said this in an interview with KayoSports a day after arriving in Abu Dhabi -
"At the end of the day, I'm gonna say this, this is a clear message to Islam. You know for a fact - if the roles are reversed, this fight isn't happening 100%. There is no chance in hell he would take ME on, on 12 days notice "
FACTS
Short notice is a myth, In UFC290 post fight Volk himself said he was training and getting ready for this fight. Stop preparing excuses!
Yeah no shit, it's way easier for a fw to make 155 on 11 days than islam
@@lrorexcept he got surgery and was not the backup for the fight it was Gamrot so idk what your talking about watch the sport closer
Absolutely true, cuz he's smart
Can't exactly suggest that's a fact simply going on your emotions lol
I feel like Almeida/Blaydes was gonna test Jailton's MMA skills whereas Almeida/Lewis is gonna test the MMA gods. Do they allow that ONE shot to land? 😅
I got Lewis by spinning back elbow into a roundhouse kick for KO victory
@@survivaltipsandtricks4042I got Lewis by spinning back fist in the clinch or flying armbar (easy techniques for masters of hoodjitsu)
I have Lewis by 2nd round flying knee. They'll never see it coming in the 2nd round.
The real important question here is : What's the stronger curse ? The EA UFC Game Cover curse , or Lucas Tracy's predictions ?

100% spot on in regard to how Cruz dealt with the Garbrandnt loss.
It was a masterclass of damage control.
Izzy and Aljo should have studied his playbook.
yeah that's true.
I feel like both Izzy and Aljo got cred for how they handled the loss though.
@@Juel92 They did. These guys place their personal perception on how they want to see things onto these fighters. They think they behaved differently cause that's what they want to see and most likely because they are already biased against Aljo and Izzy.
Aljo?
All i remember seeing are people being suprised how well he took the loss
With Izzy people just hate the dude
No matter how he handled the loss people would've still clowned him
He didn't handle the Cejudo loss that well. Cigarettes and alcohol.
Ronda rousey Vs holm was def most humiliating. She went to a whole nother occupation, andddd she was talking so much shit to holm
Nice! Didn’t expect a podcast the same week as UFC 294. Keep up the good work bro
I disagree with Anderson not being able to beat top 10 today. The middleweight division has lacked elite grapplers for the last 6+ years. Nobody does any submissions. He literally won a round against Adesanya in his 40's in addition with having an amazing longevity long after breaking his leg, and he is a complete fighter. Adesanya, Romero and Alex has ZERO submission wins, even Whittaker has ZERO submission wins inside the UFC and the list goes on and on...
Different levels of grappling. The more you learn about the sport, the more you’ll see that the skill gap over time increases exponentially. Anderson would not be top 10 today but could beat some of the fighters outside of the top 5 a few times out of ten.
@@jameshaygreen6400thank you for saving me a reply. 100% correct
@@jameshaygreen6400 What?!? Adesanya has literally ZERO submission wins in 27 MMA fights, and has been taken down close to 30 times in his MMA career, and he managed to achieve greatness. Even Alex with around 5 MMA fights became the champ. The middleweight divison is overrated now, and it lacks elite grapplers like I mentioned... There's a reason for why Khamzat vs Usman winner is getting the next title shot. The rest mostly suck along with being unlimited fighters. Plessis has potential and Muniz disappointed considering his world champion jiu jitsu background and potential as well.
@@alcottdevalte7440I didn't know he was taken down that many times damn
I thought it'd be like 8-9 times or something
@@Cpt.Andy2 That literally made no sense. A 29 year old Adesanya destroyed Whittaker and arguably won a 29-28 decision against a 43 year old Anderson who landed as many punches as Adesanya during round 2 if I remember it correctly. Just imagine a much younger Anderson fighting Adesanya and Whittaker who are considered the best of new era...
I think Anderson Silva highlight vids on CZcams was so many people's introduction to mma Nd what got them hooked. Definitely was for me
Glad to see Yoel getting some love. Dude is an absolute specimen of a human being. A true stud.
Let's go Volk, go get em 👊
Yoel's biggest problem was his mindset. You weren't sure if he was playing around or mentally breaking. Dude seriously could have been undefeated in the UFC, he basically beat himself by being a weirdo, even with being older and the neck injury.
funny to think Yoel had a neck injury, considering his head seems fixed on his shoulders
Who did Drake pick?
Thats the curse.
@@FlyPsichehe had his neck surgically fused, that’s why it seems like that
Yoel with no neck injury might have had a much weaker chin and be easier to knock out. He tanks headkicks with no issue but they also are essentially hitting a tree stump
Lmfao
Fused neck = iron chin
he "might" have gained super powers after getting bit by a radioactive spider
Yup. He got KO'd by Feijao pre-neck injury
Awesome podcast!! Super fun and loved your personal stuff. Think that's only the 2nd time I've heard your personal stuff. I've been a fan of your breakdown since 2018.
Usman Nurmagomedov is my favorite MMA fighter right now. Not even a Bellator fan, huge One FC & UFC fan but Usman is still my favorite

gotta agree... even more impressive cuz it's just one dude, whose not famous, and only does audio...but he's got a nice "radio voice", seems hella genuine, and has the most technical breakdowns -- or as technical as Dan hardy
Seriously everyone else sucks
Too much talk about the what if’s with Yoel Romero. He could’ve possibly been the greatest of all time, but he wasn’t. “He could’ve gotten 20 title defenses in a row!” Well he didn’t, and that never would’ve happened obviously. It’s just silly to me. Shoulda coulda woulda.

Cody's performance against Cruz was one of the best overall performances in MMA history. It was crazy to watch
Yes everyone should see it. Cody Garbrandt is so fast, perhaps one of the fastest fighters in UFC history. He danced around Cruz like Cruz was in molasses.
It was like he was in the damn matrix lol
It’s super cool you actually train - genuinely glad to see MMA content creators that actually train. Some of them have massive blind spots in combat sports because they haven’t trained and don’t understand positions or actual technique and definitely the mental state of fighters
I absolutely LOVE your videos. I never miss anything you say. I fight in RUF in AZ and I’m balls deep in fighting and love your analysis…. ❤
I’ve gone back and forth on this cause it’s like: if Volk loses, what argument is there for them to fight again? Their rivalry would be 0-2 in favor of Islam. And you could say that things about Volk didn’t have a full camp, had to travel, is coming off an injury, but like Weasel said, Volk knew all of that going into this. I don’t think a loss would lower Volk’s stock too much, like last time, but I do think it would hurt his argument for ever rematch if Islam again or making another run at the LW title
Gameplan for Jiri is simple, force wild exchanges in the pocket before Pereira destroys his legs with the invisible calfkicks
Digging trenches at work today and this is awesome to listen to thank you
While I do agree Romero would've been a monster had he started MMA much earlier... that whole 20+ title defenses thing seems awfully speculative. Can't you say similar things about any of those ultra-athletic top tier wrestlers from those days? What about someone like Adam Saitiev who beat Yoel Romero twice, first at the 2000 Olympics and again at the 2002 World Championships? What about someone like Cael Sanderson? If Cael had started training MMA when he was 18, he probably would've been pretty terrifying as well, right? What exactly is it that makes you conclude Yoel would just automatically be a completely unstoppable force in MMA when he wasn't even unstoppable at wrestling? I'm just trying to wrap my head around that thought process.
Yoel’s main strength is his athleticism and explosiveness. A wrestling match with flying knees and overhand lefts favors Yoel for both guys he lost to: and also beat.
One day i want a 2 hour long podcast. Unlike other MMA CZcamsrs, i can literally listen to Weasel talk about MMA all day long
how is Marvin Vettori gonna lose to Jake 🤨
Jake Paul?
If you are asking how it COULD happen. The same way he beat Diaz and Silva.
@@Re-Todd_Howardthey’re literally 40
In a 12 round boxing match, maybe Vettori could make it interesting in the later rounds against Jake, who's going to gas.
Vettori has ZERO defensive abilities. He doesn't have a clue about blocking any punches at all.
Weasel, the portion about you and your cousin and your dad and just you talking about it idk why but was amazing do more please

Fair and solid analysis--a rarity these days. Really enjoyed it.
The weight disparity will be huge this time. So Volk is not only fighting short notice but also a bigger opponent in a higher weight class in his place. Insane!
Volk said he weight 181 when ufc called him. He is a huge weight bully
@@boris_jsmate that's what i keep saying Islam saiid his walk around weight is 180-185 meaning they have similar walk around weight & Islam in training camp is probably lighter than that, so this narrative of weight disparity sounds like Volk fans lining up excuses
@@boris_jsdude he's barely 5ft 6 fighting at featherweight and just got off a vacation 😂 if 5ft 6 and always makes weight

Hey, weasel, I love your content, but if possible, could you edit your video to include more photos of the fighters you're talking about. I'm very bad with names and have a hard time keeping up with who you're talking about, and having a photo of the fighters would help me out a lot. Thanks, and keep up the great work
I once thought Ronda Rousey would make it to 20 title defenses. Now, I don't think anyone can do it, not even Yoel. The wear and tear on the body plus the overconfidence plus the evolution of the game plus several other factors.
💯sooner or later they find holes in your game. Especially now since you can go on CZcams and see their fight patterns
@@benjichillin5226 You think coaches didn't know the value of watching tape before CZcams? 😂🤣😂🤣😂
also Yoel would’ve been in the same era as the other fighters, he’s acting like Yoel would’ve had the same fighting ability back then as he had when he fought. like yeah no shit an elite modern fighter would dominate back in the day, but put him with the same trainers and the same knowledge as the past guys than he would just be the exact same.
@@lennaymaboyyy4848he would slam them all
@@Guerrilla_Grodd You are right. However, the number of very insightful CZcamsrs dissecting each fighter is nothing like the old days. Just the number of perspectives is nothing I would have ever foreseen 20 years ago.
I am as excited as the next fan for this card, but I feel what you're saying. If Volk loses, by any wider margin than last time, it's gonna leave us questioning the short notice. But, that is the sport and he took the fight.
You got some insane takes on this one
Something to keep in mind with the Young Romero thing is if he did go on to dominate at MW then he’d probably go up to LHW and face the likes of prime Jones, Gus and DC which I think he’d get finished by all of them other than maybe DC which would be highly competitive and entertaining fight
Ufc debut at 35 alone is insane. Brock Lesnar debuted in his late 20s/30s and it was considered late and impressive.
Especially considering Yoel mostly strikes, doesn’t even use his grappling background
Hey Weasle. Just want to say love your content and I’m learning more and more every video. My friend recently bummed into Jon Anik and Paul Felder at the airport and ask for this match up with Dustin Poirier and Geoff Neal at welterweight. I ask my friend why and he says that it would be a very entertaining fight because both of them have similar fighting styles. How do you feel about this fight?
Thats awesome you used to train as a kid. My interest in MMA started in 6th grade, i started kickboxing at The Pit with John Hackleman and Chuck Liddell. Thats when Glover first came also, he taught is BJJ when he was still training at the pit. such a good dude!

I honestly see GSP beating the entire top 10 in Welterweight today. If we are counting Khamzat that’s a tougher one cause Khamzat is so big, that one I see being tough. That being said Burns have Khamzat trouble so I think I still side GSP but that’s close.
I think Shavkat is a bad match up for gsp honestly
he wouldn´t beat belal at this point

Hey Weasle. Huge fan! I was a bit surprised that you didn’t mention Illia Tuporia in the second to last question (regarding the top ten strikers of all time). I understand that his career is young, but since you mentioned Cedric Doumbe I assumed longevity wasn’t a factor.
