Sally plucks the petals three times ("loves me, loves me not, loves me...") but stops right before the "loves me not" petal when Jack confesses his feelings. So cute! :]
How did I not notice that? This is still one of my favorite movie endings.

I think, a bit before, when Jack saw Sally go to the graveyard, Zero looked at Jack, as if to say, "Go to her, Master."
I think Zero knew Jack so well, he really wanted his master to be as happy as he could, even with someone special outside him.

This is so sad. Through out the movie, Jack felt such loneliness without someone besides Zero. He didn't realize he was in love with Sally until the end, and many people disagree. They said , "He only loved her because she saved his life." No, he figured out he loved her because of this. Although people fight about it, It's just so happy to me and romantic. I am crying right now. Happy Halloween everyone.
FINALLY!! Someone sees it too, it was so obvious he had a special care for her, he enjoyed her little basket of goodies she left him, he gave her the most important job on making suits and let's her know she's the ONLY ONE he trusts to do the job.

I like how this movie isn’t completely surrounded around a love story but instead about each other finding a role in life and then meeting at the end. It’s truly beautiful and after this scene it’s left up to your imagination.

I can somewhat relate to Jack and Sally. In high school, there was a girl I was extremely attracted to. She wasn't a cheerleader, or the prom queen, but she had a beauty all of her own. Her smile was intoxicating. But, I was a dumb kid, and did dumb kid things. I graduated, and never looked back. I joined the Army, traveled the world, went to war, got married, (3 times!!!). But that girl, the one with the infectious smile, haunted my dreams, years after I left home. I lost contact with her, and many other people from my past. Earlier this year, she sent me a friend request of Facebook. Seeing her face brought back all those memories, of sweeter days. Over the summer, my wife of 7 years, (#3) and I decided to end our marriage. Things became too toxic, and I was even contemplating suicide, mostly over PTSD reasons, but my years-long decaying relationship with my wife didn't help things. A few weeks after we split, I get a message, it's from HER!!! We talked for hours! We talked the next day, and the next. We decided to go for a walk in my hometown where she still lived, on a trail near where I grew up. I told her how I felt about her, almost 25 years ago. She said she had the same feelings, and it broke her heart that I never asked her out. She thought about me often, over the years. That walk was also our first kiss. Like Dracula said, "I crossed oceans of time for her". We both have adult children, but we fell in love as if we were teenagers all over again. This past few months has been the best of my entire life. The destiny and the adventures I spent my life seeking, was behind me the whole time. My advice to the younger folks who look beyond for their destiny, look behind you first before you go. There might be someone waiting for you to offer your hand, someone who will join you in your adventures. Don't turn your back. I will never get back that time I lost with her, but I'm glad I will have a future with her at my side. So much time lost, but, I feel our love is strong, and I'm grateful that I was blessed with a second chance to right a wrong almost 25 years ago!

I've always thought that any potential sequel for this story should focus more on Jack and Sally's relationship. Like, Valentine's Day was one of the doors, right? What if Jack tried doing something really nice for Sally, gets the entirety of Halloweentown excited, it ends up a disaster, and he runs away through the heart door when he's sure she's angry when really she just wants to tell him something? And through the door, he runs into Santa who's getting advice on a nice day for the missus? Then they could have a conversation where you could get a funny joke or two in and a really quotable moment as well. Then Sally shows up and they dance/have a really pretty duet. Then we finally have the extended ending of the soundtrack put into the movie with Sally saying she's ready to have kids and Jack absolutely overjoyed.

There was actually going to a sequel called The Unlucky Clover and it would have been about St.Patricks Day but Tim Burton didn’t want to have a sequel cause he didn’t want the movie or something else get lame or something like that. They’re so lucky to have each other; Sally, beautiful, independent, so compassionate, selfless, loving, and so much more. Jack is so handsome, intelligent, open minded, determined, and passionate.
But what they’re the luckiest is for their love; he realized just seeing her when she tried to save Santa, and he was so determined, and scared for her safety that he went straight in, and then he realized he loved her, but I love that it was their friendship and trust he built into her and her into him, so when he called her “his dearest friend” you can just see the deep love he already built for her but when he realized he loved her- oh my gosh, I’m rambling so much, lololol. 😂 I love this movie!!! 😭❤️

Nobody can convince me that this isn't the most romantic scene in all cinematic history.
The ending is pretty satisfying. I can say, my favorite movie of all times.
Jack finally realizes what he's been missing.
Sally is finally free from her over controlling father/creator.
Dr. Finklestein created someone who is more like him which resulted in marriage.
Even Lock, Shock and Barrel changed their ways.
But, I think the sad part of this ending is that Zero is gone. I believe that Zero was Jack's dog until he died, and was his companion throughout the movie, now, when he realizes that Jack is no longer alone, Zero passes on and becomes a star to still watch over Jack and Sally.
Not technically, the comic books have established that zero can actually shape-shift so he probably transformed into the star for that scene and just turned back to his normal form later
Maybe the star blinking was just a cinematic exaggeration to signify that Zero flew very high? In any case good observation, I actually never noticed that.

It's simple to say that Zero the ghost dog went into the light. After seeing the happiness of his two friends he was released from the spirit realm. That's why we see him smiling and then flying into the sky to became a star in the sky 🙂

What? This isn’t the spirit realm, this is Halloween Town, which according to the film is a place on Earth. That’s not to mention that in basically all media taking place after the film, Zero’s still around (because why wouldn’t he be?) What reason would Zero have for leaving anyway? He’s not _trapped,_ he’s just Jack’s dog. He’s a ghost because it’s Halloween town. We can reasonably assume that he’s _always_ been a ghost the same way Jack’s _always_ been a skeleton.
Unpopular Opinions don’t ruin the fun of the imagination party pooper .. ghosts go into the light when they find where they want to go. I imagine the ghost dog is happy now and he can always come back and visit. And Halloween town is just that.. like a spirit realm with skeletons, the undead and other beings. You’re over thinking it lol that’s what the spirit realm is lol this is just the interpretation I think of, ok

This is the sweetest and most satisfying ending I’ve ever watched. It always makes me so teary eyed that what jack was truly looking for was genuine love and he realizes he has that with sally.
Love this ending, always gets me. The way Zero knows Jacks happy now and goes to heaven and becomes a star. I lost my dog recently and she was always by my side and comforted me, hope she’s in heaven too.
Maybe you're looking into this too hard, I think Zero just does that to give a closing

When I was younger I longed for this scene to be extended. But the more I grow I learn that this scene is long enough.
Honestly one of the best relationships in kids movies. Most stories have it all dramatic and longing way over the top for the other, where In The Nightmare Before Christmas, their relationship only furthers the plot for good but doesn’t go over the top showing HEY THESE TWO LOVE EACH OTHER OK OK NOW LET ME SHOVE IT DOWN YOUR THROAT like most movies do. It’s beautiful. And this is why I love this movie
The details from the plot to this I mean - they even had Sally’s footprints in the snow when you see Jack walking up. The minor details to the story is amazing.

It's really Tim Burton's licensed to Disney. Disney had no faith in this film. They thought the Halloween / Christmas movie was a bad idea. Until record video sales flew through the roof along with over seas toy sales. Now anything Burton does get green-lit by Disney.
What's even sadder was, some years before that, how Disney treated Burton when he first released 'Frankenweenie' (The original live- action short film). He had been a Disney animator up to that point, working on 'The Black Cauldron' and 'The Fox and the Hound,' but when he made 'Frankenweenie,' the Disney execs hated it, refused to release it, and fired Burton just for making it! Fortunately, it turned out well, as Paul "Pee- Wee Herman" Reubens liked it, which led to him asking Burton to direct 'Pee- Wee's Big Adventure,' which in turn was the movie that first launched Burton's directing career.
Disney has a history of doing that.

This last weekend I got to see this movie in theaters for the first time in my life, my lifelong dream, and this scene had me tearing up. It was so magical.

So I bought these two necklaces and they were both really beautiful. The necklaces had a piece that was a spiral like the mountain they are standing on. Engraved on the necklace was "Now and forever" and on one necklace Sally was engraved, and jack on the other. I gave one to my boyfriend and I kept the other. It was honestly the cutest thing I ever did.
I got two Disney pins that go together sort of like the necklaces.

Often times if something is overrated people will dislike it. Mostly because everyone praising this movie for being "perfect" gets annoying really fast. It was good but after a while it's just something high school people obsess about and throw all of their money at Hot Topic to buy as much Nightmare Before Christmas merch as possible even though they probably haven't seen it or think that Tim Burton directed it.
I agree, who wouldn't want to live like Jack and Sally. In my opinion people are so wrong when they try pair Emily (from Corpse Bride) with Jack. Jack and Sally are Simply Meant To Be. 😊
The only problem I had with this scene is that Jack was suddenly in love with Sally with how little he interacted with her throughout the film. Though, this scene is still great on it's own!

I love how in sallys song the melody of when she sings "my feelings for him, and will he see, how much he means to me, I think its not to be", and the melody of them both singing together, complements each song "Sally song and Jacks" "and sit together, now and forever, for which is plain, as anyone can see, we're simply meant to be"
Part of me wishes the movie was a little longer. Don't get me wrong; I love this movie and always thought the movie is perfect the way it is ever since I was a kid. I just wish this very scene was a little longer; a bit more said by Jack and Sally in the song about their feelings for each other just to make it more heart warming; but a simple close like this one worked out for this movie. I also wish a certain scene was added; like a flashback of how Sally and Jack met. In parts of the film, it was implied a few times that they already knew each other (Jack already knew her name and specifically trusted Sally to make his Santa suit); they have both referred to each other as friends. How they fell in love was shown in the movie, but how their friendship started before that is what I want to know.
Maybe if we're lucky we'll get a prequel someday, I mean one that isn't a video game lol
I don't know why a lot of comments are asking how they'll have sex or something like that... it's supposed to be an innocent love. Just kisses, no intercourse. An innocent love that was meant to be. :3

@@asumi7984 plus if you look at the fucking details Wesley spent the five years trying to get back when buttercup was told he was dead, there was no much violence when he went to save his true love to only get killed by the man who is set out to kill her only to be king a blame it on Gilda, then saved by miracle max to bust in on the wedding day to still save her life, as for indigo Montoya to finally avenge his dad. if you actually understand an watch the movie you'd see what it was was true love. as for nightmare before Christmas sally was locked away from the world as jack ignored her, basically treated her like a milk made half the movie only t realize he treated her like that when she acted out on it, not to mention he used her to make suits, forced a holiday on monsters an expected it to be the same as what he saw. he was very selfish an rude to her until the end when she almost lost him if honestly, you think that's better then someone who saves someone from murder, a false marriage that she was forced in to is better, please check your self.

I’m a girl, but I was like Jack who didn’t realize they were in love with their dearest friend until it was too late. Despite my friend showing me signs along the way, I was too busy focused on my own pursuit of happiness (like Jack in his pursuit of Christmas) that I missed the treasure in front of me all along. I will always regret it. My friend is now married, and i’ll always blame myself 💔
This was the sweet irony of the film. All this time, Jack Skellington thought he needed Christmas. What he really needed, Sally finally gave to him at the end. This was perfect.
