For him to say Carmy is lonely and uncomfortable with himself is very accurate. Look at him with Claire - she seems to fill this void for him, but at the same time I bet he’s asking himself, “What does she see in ME?!” And he’s so used to being let down (or feeling like he's let somebody down) because that’s his norm. So he pushed Claire away. Carmy was so anxious about ruining things with her, and the longer things went well the more anxious he got about it. He said in one of the later s2 episodes that it was nice being with her and apologized…and Claire asked if he was waiting for the other shoe to drop, to which he said yes. Poor Carmy is so used to being disappointed that he can’t relax and enjoy it when a good thing is finally happening.

The Bear really has a great first season! One of the few shows I have gone back to watch over and over.

Is his hair long enough to be in a ponytail in the back? Lol. (Great and insightful interview with JAW, as always, though.)
