    Thanks so much for this comparison review, that also includes the nibs being used on different papers. Exactly what I wanted! I have a TWSBI Eco in a 1.1 stub and want to pick up another, but I was going back and forth between F and M or just get another 1.1 stub. I was leaning more toward the M to have a different sized nib to try, but to be completely honest I really love the 1.1 stub and the slight line variation possible with it. The 1.1 makes my handwriting more interesting! I'm still torn because I do feel silly getting another Eco with the exact same nib size.

      @jamesaritchie1 Před 2 lety +2

      If you just stepped in you may not know that all the beautiful inks, and all the fascinating properties these inks can have, such as shading, sheen, and glitter, come through best with larger nib sizes. An EF nib doesn't put down a line that's wide enough, or wet enough, to display such properties very well. I have very small handwriting, but I learned to use fine, then medium, broad, and stub nibs because of their ability to display ink properties far better than EF nibs.
      You have to decide for yourself how important fountain pen ink properties are, but the fountain pen world is about exploration and experimentation. Of course you can buy and use EF nibs, but this shouldn't stop you from trying other pens and other nibs. It's about having fun, learning new things, and going all the way down the rabbit hole.

    Well, I plan on buying my first fountain pen being the Twsbi Eco with the fine nib. I’m very nervous that I won’t like the nib because it might be too small and if it is too small I’ll just have to live with it 😔 but it should be fine. As long as it’s not smaller writing than 0.3mm it should be fine.

    I just ordered the Fine nib TWSBI to add to my collection. So far, I have the medium and broad. I wanted to get the EF but had some reservations as to whether I can use it with my noodler’s bullet-proof inks. The 54th Mass is a beautiful ink but clogs up even a broad nib especially if the pen is left uncapped even for a minute. The black X-feather fares much better and looks great with fine nibs. I’m currently figuring out which brand to buy in red and purple, preferably one that’s free-flowing and friendly with highlighters but not bullet proof. Any ideas?

      @@carlamariestudios I have both. Broad is for things like signing, art etc but not for regular writing on lined paper. Medium can be used for regular use. I have the fine as well and that’s probably the best for regular writing and can be used as EDC. Medium is smoother than the fine.

      I've never had 54th clog any pen, including my TWSBIs. Of course, the pen doesn't clog if you leave the cap off, it just dries out, which is not the same thing as clogging. But I don't have a problem with it drying out very fast, either, and I use medium nibs every day. That said, no pen and no ink should be left uncapped, which is one more reason why posting a pen is a bad idea.
      There are hundreds of good inks out there that aren't bulletproof, but bulletproof inks are not your problem. They just aren't. Tens of thousands of people use bulletproof inks routinely, and experience zero problems. If anything, bulletproof inks stop such problems.
      Noodler's makes red and purple ink that is as good, as free-flowing, and as highlighter friends, as any ink on the market. But if you want beautiful, but cheap, ink that will meet your needs, go with Waterman. If you want a more expensive ink that does what you want, go with Iroshizuku.
      But you might also consider buying other nibs. EF nibs simply are not very good fountain pen nibs. Most who use such nibs do so because they used ballpoints or gel pens with fine points, and refused to change when they started using fountain pens. Bad idea. Fountain pen ink needs wider lines, if you want to show off its properties, and if you don't want to do this, there really isn't much reason to use fountain pens.

    Thanks for the nice and informative video! I am also left-handed and currently considering to buy a TWSBI pen, but it is really difficult to make a decision on the nib size. I have heard that TWSBI and Kaweco have nibs from the same manufacturer ("Jowo" or smth. like that). I am using Kaweco Perkeo in F and M, and really enjoy the smoothness of M (F is a bit scratchy to my taste). If you have experience with different brands, what nib size would you suggest to buy on TWSBI? Our local seller advised me to go for F, but I can well assume that he wants me to visit his shop twice, i.e. to return for am M later :) I would really appreciate your opinion!

I journal and do all my writing in planners with a F nib because it's neater and I don't need to go as fast. I find the F plenty smooth as well just not as smooth as the M. Hope that helps.
