    I think the reason others may not think to do this is because most people (it seems) prefer bright unnatural "pure" colors. This is very beautiful and subdued, and exactly the kind of look I am attracted to. Wonderful technique, I especially love the moss!

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  Před 11 měsíci +16

      Yes about the pure colors, we have similar tastes then, I love the slightly dark, mysterious atmospheres.

      Wow! Gorgeous artwork! Do you actually use the lighter water-soluble graphite pencils much? I find myself just using the darkest ones.

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  Před 11 měsíci +5

      Same, mostly the darkest ones 🙂

      I disagree with your statement that bright colors are unnatural, it seems a little shallow to me to think that way. Look at a field of wild flowers, how are those bright colors ‘unnatural’? Just because it isn’t your taste, it doesn’t mean that it is unnatural. I like subdued, bright, mystic, it just all depends on what the artwork is about.

    Wow! What an awesome effect. I've had some water soluble graphite for years and really couldn't find a way to use it that I liked. I like the texture of it but I kept mixing it with my watercolor, making things muddy. Your technique lets that vintage subtle texture of the graphite shine. Gonna give this a try.

    Hi Francoise. Like you, I'm really enjoying Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils and your Caran D'ache palette is so useful. I bought it after your recommendation video. It saves a lot of paper and pencil. Just finished a watercolour pencil family portrait, which turned out great. Thanks for the tips. This tutorial was great. Never saw anyone use the Faber Castell watercolor graphite pencils for details and shadows at the end. Thanks and do make more videos like this. WTG. :)

    That looks fabulous. You have given me an idea to experiment with. I think I'll try the same thing with my soft pastels. I sometimes use soft pastel as an underpainting for watercolor, but I think it could work very nicely for adding accents of opaque pigment over the watercolor. Of course, I think I will be using this technique with the pencils too! Thank you for sharing. :)

    I had a different watersoluble graphite set a few years ago and hated it, but bought this set of five this year. Have not used it much but liked it much better. You have given me some inspiration! I very often want to draw into paintings because I want the punchiness that a drank line can give and the immediacy of placing a mark with precision.never though of placing this process later rather than first! I guess I have always been influenced by pen and wash, where really the watercolour is the bit that gets filled in almost as an afterthought.
