  • Add a little charm to an old mirror with the use of some decoupaging! You can use this same technique with a new mirror to add a little romantic flair to it but it’s a great way to repurpose an old mirror, playing off on the natural wear and hazing of its finish.
    The paint and supplies for this project can be found at www.queenbeecreations.com.

    Girl, you just made my heart happy with this, I was in a rut, and now I have something to do. I have several mirrors, I have a small, very old, desk top mirror, that would look good on a mantel, and the mirror is in pretty rough shape, so I am going to practice on it. It is so beautiful, the shape, the detail that is on it, so I am so excited to get it started. I am starting right now, actually. I also have two other mirrors, that are identical, and the backs look just like your's, they were dresser mirrors, very old, but they are still in decent shape, as far as the mirror, it is a lot like your's. I really love the color you painted the wood.

      Thank you so much Molly! I'm excited that you're finding inspiration in the videos - that makes my heart happy! That's what it's really all about - sharing techniques and ideas. Good luck with your mirrors, I'm sure they'll be fabulous!

    An old deck of cards, squeeze cards between the frame and mirror, then paint the frame, remove the cards and mirror is clean, it will save you lots of clean up time.

    I have a couple old mirrors, that were put together, exactly, like your's. I took mine completely apart, now, I wish I hadn't. I did save as many of the little pieces of wood, as I could, but some broke apart. I wanted to DECOUPAGE, but wasn't sure how to do it. I am so glad you did this. I scratched the glass a little, while I was sanding the frame, but I think some toothpaste or baking soda, hopefully, will rescue it. Okay, back to the video.

      Old mirrors really have such potential for making some interesting pieces. There is a video in the playlist where I took one old dresser top mirror and turned it upside and made it into a wall mirror... almost teardrop shaped... it turned out super nice too! Good luck with yours!

    Hi ya From Western Australia 🇦🇺
    Just ❤️❤️ the mirror 👍
    I have just One Question ! Could you use Mod lodge or Elmers glue for the decoupage 🤔

    Интересная работа, но я бы сначала выкрасила раму и только потом, вставила туда зеркало.

      @QueenBeeCreations  Před 2 lety +1

      Certainly! Whichever works best for you! I openly admit I sometimes take a lazier approach when it won't affect the final outcome... too long a lineup of projects waiting!

    Wow that's a lot of work sanding. Is there maybe an easier way to get that backing off? I don't know some sort of chemical not that I want to use a chemical. Maybe Goo gone I don't know

    • @QueenBeeCreations
      @QueenBeeCreations  Před rokem +1

      No... you have to sand but... you can use a rotary sander or mouse sander - much faster, but easier to over-do also!

    The surface could be very toxic . Old mirrors could be made with silver, tin, mercury. A dust mask and gloves should be worn if you sand the surface off ,

  • @KMF3

    Never would have thought to do this. It's a really cool idea but decoupage and me are not friends. I cannot for the life of me no matter what I do yet my paper to lay down without wrinkles and bubbles. And it just ends up looking like crap.

    • @QueenBeeCreations
      @QueenBeeCreations  Před rokem +1

      Since you are decoupaging to the 'back' of the mirror it won't really matter. That said though... have you tried the iron method of decoupaging? When I am doing drawer fronts especially I like it to be smooth and unwrinkled... this is the best way for me! (unless I plan to distress the heck out of it and the wrinkles help 'age' it!!). Here's a video where I decoupaged the front of the drawers on a piece (in case you haven't seen it yet!) czcams.com/video/XANvOXa1OwY/video.html

    • @KMF3
      @KMF3 Před rokem

      @@QueenBeeCreations I haven't tried the iron method yet. But that would only work on a flat smooth surface. I just decoupage Three wooden dowels today. I don't know how I would have done it with an iron

  • @DNLDVID

    Probably should be wearing a mask, as the mirror backing is toxic.

    • @QueenBeeCreations
      @QueenBeeCreations  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for looking out for me!! I generally leave the mask off when talking to the camera but put it on when doing the majority of the work off-camera. That said - it would probably make more people comfortable if I said that!
