The #928 models were powered by a water-cooled #V8 engine with the cylinders angled at 90°. The displacement of the engine increased from the initially 4.5 liters to 5.4 liters. The power was transferred via the transaxle principle.
To improve aerodynamics, the models from model 928 S (model year 1979) were equipped with a front and rear spoiler.
The rear axle of the #Porsche928 was a completely new development. What made this double wishbone suspension, also known as the Weissach axle, unique was its stabilizing toe-in effect. This worked more or less like passive rear-wheel steering, contributing significantly to the Gran Turismo's active safety.
928 (model year 1978 - 1982)
The round rear without a rear spoiler was an unmistakable and distinguishing feature of the 928. Unlike later successors, this model had no front or rear spoiler. The 928's 4.5-litre engine produced 240 horsepower.
This is the 1st generation of the #Porsche 928 in the perfect colour composition, "Lindgrün" with a 1970s design Pasha interior (velour black/white checkered). This car was delivered new in Germany (C00), built in 1977 with a 1st registration on November 27, 1981.

given how successful all modern porsche designs are, I would love to see a modern take on the 928. with new production technologies and with porsche's current level of design language, a new 928 would look gorgeous. not sure about its place in the lineup. but it would sure look pretty

In my opinion; Not enough attention for the radical forward leaning door piece in the B-pillar. I think this is the only car ever that has this beautiful element of design.

In the 80’s Dodge Daytona Turbo Z did the same design element facing forward B pillar evens the Sun visors for rear seats beautiful design my all time favorite Porsche

I was a bit of a "juvenile delinquent " and when I had to appear at Liverpool crown court my lawyer used to bring me back to my home town in a red one of these , it was like an incentive to naughty ! , I see Rolls Royce have stolen your name of "spectre " at least you had the good taste and sense of tradition Niels to put "silver " in front , to me the names "ghost " and especially "dawn " sound a bit uninspiring when said on there own , just checked out the "breadvan " on another site , what a beauty Niels ,you have really done yourself proud with that one .

I think Porsche tried a little too hard in seeking a new design direction for the 928. The 928 abandoned the design language laid down by Kommenda in the 356, which was later carried through to the 911. Porsche's conservative customers did not forget however, and never warmed to the 928 (or to the 924/944/968 for that matter). Porsche learnt the hard way not to mess with an automotive icon, and to respect its own design heritage.
They pushed very hard indeed. And perhaps a bit too far. Although this is one of the rather more complex points of strategic car design. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for tuning in to the video. More on Porsche on this channel. Enjoy!
Still my favorite Porsche. But seeing how cramped Mr. van Roij was in the front seat (e.g., the head rest was barely reaching his neck!), and being about the same height as him, I can safely remove this car from my wish list.
