  • Here we are, the last video of my little mini series of top 5's for Fountain Pen newbies. In this video I provide writing samples of my 5 favourite paper for fountain pens... but really my 4 favourite, as I also show what non-friendly fountain pen paper looks like.
Thanks so much for watching :)
Hope everyone has a happy and healthy new year!

The ink is great. I enjoy Clairefontaine paper a well as Tomoe River.

Nice cross-sectional review. I'll happily refer friends new to our love of fountain pens to this, not simply for the specific brands of paper, but to show how paper does make a vast difference. Thanks!

I would love to find a recycled paper that can hold fountain pens. That would be amazing!

I’m currently using ColourHide A5 from Officeworks with a glass dip pen with Van Dieman’s Icy Great Lake shimmer ink. There isn’t any feathering that I can see, nor ghosting, and the only bleed through I’m getting so far is when I make mistakes lol. I’m story writing so that’s why I have no problem trying the cheaper notebooks. The next one I’ll be trying is the Quill A5 notebook but it’ll be a while before I get to it. The test sample was promising though. I also have a Midori (sp?) A5 notebook waiting for me. No test on it yet.

Oh wow- I will try the ColorHide next!
I would love to find some recycled paper/notebook that is FP friendly also. That is my next mission!

Finding recycled fp friendly paper would be so cool. I forgot to mention that theQuill notebook was bought from Amazon.

Thanks for testing! I just ordered a bunch of Oxford Optik Paper notebooks. They’re not the prettiest, but they’re cheap and definitely great for everyday jotting things down.

Agreed! I am thinking of picking a couple up for work. Lots of pages in the notebook also- so will last a while.

I have to thank you so much for this video. I've only just stuck my toe in the glass pen pool, and had been eyeing the Moonman. I think you've saved me from a bunk purchase. I did get a couple of cheap no-name pens from Aliexpress just to test things out (I'm assuming I will break them eventually, so I didn't want to start out expensive) and absolutely no work has been done to smooth out the nibs. They are all awfully scratchy. I have *kind of* managed to sand one down to usability, but it's still a far cry from the smooth experience many people talk about.
Possibly nothing will be as smooth as the Pilot Iro-utsushi?

Thanks for watching! I do know some people have had better experiences with the Moonman than I have, the nibs just aren’t consistent.
I love my Iro-utsushi. I really want to get one in medium as well. I would however also be intrigued as to how a proper glass dip pen works. I am sure a proper one would be wonderfully smooth!

@@Pausewithapen I initially bought the fine Iro-utsushi. For my handwriting it was a bit too thin, so I grabbed a medium as well and have never looked back. It's perfect and smooth and pretty much what I compare everything else to.
I'm going to try one other glass pen. Will let you know how it goes!

The medium is VERY high on my list of eating to purchase!
Can’t wait to hear how how it goes!
