I was taking prednisone in the morning but for 2 reasons I don’t do it any more: 1) I am very sore and stiff for hours upon awakening and therefore unproductive (no kickstart to the day because I am in pain and/or stiffness). 2) It conflicts with my supplements. It is highly recommended that most of the common supplements be taken in the morning with food because they are fat soluble. B12 is water soluble but it is recommended it be taken in the morning. I am not sure if b12 conflicts with prednisone if taken at the same time.

But if my physician told me to avoid caffeine, I would have? Avoiding caffeine is more desirable than prolonging your PMR symptoms or prolonging your course of treatment with prednisone.

What’s your take on mixing fish oil supplements and prednisone?
Because I’m having the WORST side effects, I never saw my doctor so worried and was visibly upset at my state.
He told me to taper that prednisone ASAP and as fast I could manage.
I usually have a routine that works to keep side effects manageable .. I took it plenty of times and know what to expect.
    Definitely not this..,
Huge loss of muscle mass, my arms and legs are spaghetti. I getting thinner.. )my face but body)
No sleep at al for 5 days straight I had to get on sleep meds too..
I shake so bad I can’t write, cook or cut veggies,my wrists give up on me after a tiny bit of household work, and even my knees just gave up on me.. 😕 I can’t even walk stairs and I live in an appartement on the 3rd floor, no elevator. Takes forever to get to the top.. and completely exhausted afterwards.
All that is different is the fish oil supplements, which I mentioned to my doc , but he was ok with it.
But for some reason felt compelled to Google because it did not sit right with me.. Yet most pages say that indeed, no interaction was found..
However, there is one article from 2016 stating that fish oil can increase side effects of steroids :
“Omega-3 fatty acids (including fish oil)
Possible benefits: May protect against cardiovascular disease (though the NCCIH says study results have been mixed). May decrease some cancer and mental health risks.
*Possible drug interactions* May increase bleeding risks with anti-clotting drugs.
*May increase some of the side effects of steroids such as prednisone and hydrocortisone.*
May blunt effects of the chemotherapy drug cisplatin.
    eu.usatoday.com/story/life/2016/04/24/mixing-medications-supplements-dangerous/83181520/
Just saying, I don’t know how accurate that source is but I am highly suspicious right now. Will discontinue the fish oil and see if what happens..

Hmm… I haven’t heard of that drug interaction with fish oil before. I will have to investigate!

@@PrednisonePharmacist Me neither, and neither did my doctor. I came across it because I was so puzzled about my strange reaction and tried to find out what I was doing differently..
And this fish oil was the only thing I recently introduced into my daily supplements/diet..
But now 10 days later, without fish oil, I can definitely say it was the fish oil contributing to at least some of the extreme side effects. It made me more anxious and the insomnia was something I never experienced before even on highest dose solumedrol.. I also had extremely high blood glucose levels which I never had before..
There are some case studies about fish oil causing or exacerbating insomnia and anxiety.. add prednisone to the mix that can also cause this, and well.. It was horrible.
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4664844/
All I can say is that I feel a lot better and more like myself. Just 10 days later, still on prednisone.
On a side note: it could also be that I just had a bad brand of fish oil.
Most fish oil brands add vitamin e to prevent oxidation.. Mine did not have any vitamin e..

I've just started taking 35mg of prednisolone which il be on for 8 weeks. Thanks for the heads up on the omega 3 oils. Usually it's a anti inflammatory which I find bizarre. I hope you are much better and found a protocol without being on prednisolone.

    • @annikaelisaa1879

@@sandeepn1610 Sorry you were put on prednisone.. The lady from this channel does have some very helpful tips and glad I could offer a little bit of help too. Hope things go as smoothy as possible for you! I was also really surprised to find out about the “fishy” side of fish oil supplements.
Fish oil has many well documented health benefits and it’s true that it’s definitely a potent anti inflammatory. But prednisone is a potent anti inflammatory too, yet it also has many weird, unwanted systemic side effects. And sometimes we assume that just because something is a natural occurring compound, that it can’t have side effects. Natural remedies can be quite potent, but they can also have potent side effects.. And it sounds so cliche but it really is true that too much of a good thing can be toxic, even water or oxygen. We die if we don’t have enough but we also die if we get too much. the more I researched fish oil, the more I realized how similar it seemed to prednisone in terms of both benefits and side effects.
People are reporting insomnia, anxiety, carb cravings on prednisone. But it also seems to be an issue that’s being reported with (excess) fish oil consumption. The effects of fish oil are probably a lot less pronounced, but still noticeable especially when high doses of fish oil are used. Here is another interesting study on fish oil:
      pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2707115/
In this study, the fish oil caused a 22% increase in blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes over an eight week period.
I think generally speaking a good quality fish oil supplement can be beneficial if you don’t eat fish regularly. But my uneducated guess is that it just doesn’t mix well with prednisone in your system. It’s still pretty much anecdotal at this point, there’s a few case studies out there and some early research that shows they interact. But there is a lot we still don’t know. Prednisone is just a weird drug. And well, this could be the same for fish oil if we ingest more than our bodies need.
