    FRAGMENTS FORM THE MIND
    SHADOWS HOLD THE MIST
    FRACTURED AS THIS WISH
    SHATTERED I RESIGN
WE’RE ON THE VERGE, WE’RE ON THE VERGE
OF SACRED DAWNING AND SLOE-SLOE EYES
    SAY, I DONE TOLD YOU
    SAY HOW I TRIED, TOO
    WHERE YOU’VE WROUGHT
    FROM CREATION’S CROWN
    SAY, DIRE WARNING
    STARE DOWN YOUR MASTERS
    WITH THE PROMISE OF
    ONE AND WHAT YOU ARE
    WERE ON THE VERGE
    TANGENTS VEX THE WHORL
    THE VOID ARRIVES, THEN LEAVES
    RETURNING
    RETURNING A KISS
    FOR LOVERS BUILT THE DREAM
    DID THE TIMES, WIND
    DID THE CROWD, KIND
    APING YOUTH, WISE
    EVER LOST, IDES
    ‘MIDST THE CHAFF, AS MEEK
    AND THOSE WEAK, AS SAND
    TURNING GLASS UPSIDE DOWN

This is so crazy. My last name is CYR and I lost a my son Bryan when he was 10 months old but when he was alive ever time their song Disarm came on I would pick him up and dance with him. Ever since he past and I would hear Disarm I felt it was a message from him. I have no idea where they came up with the title CYR but to me it’s a message from my son letting me know that Smashing Pumpkins was our band our bond.

I think alot of people have a knee jerk negative reaction whenever they hear synth/electronic elements in Billys music going all the way back to Adore. And that's fine if the style is not your cup of tea but there is a solid song here, and experimenting with different flavors of music is part of the Pumpkins core identity.

@@chases7896 Me too. Within 1 year Billy has released an unfiltered/genuine acoustic blue grass-esque album and now an electronic, bleak yet shiny (and oh so bright ;) synth pop track. It's all part of following the WPC circus, wherever it may go, from 1988 to who knows when..

@QTee How did you feel about The Future Embrace and the more synth/electronic elements of Machina, Oceania and Monuments. Personally I loved Future Embrace but found alot of the synth work on Teargarden, Oceania and Monuments to be kind of corny in parts, but the synths in this song and The Colour of Love fit well.

Is not negativity... is constructive critic. SP has one of the best drummers in rock music, so where is he in this song?! They have 3 great guitar players, so where are they in this song?! Just look the face of Jimmy and James, the singers have more attention than the whole band. Billy is just doing it again, doing whatever he want without playing as a band. I hope the whole new album has more SO vibe than this...

This band never ceases to impress me. Whenever they release new material, I'm often left with mixed feelings at first. Then something happens. It clicks. Suddenly they're once again the same brilliant band I fell in love with ages ago. I can't quite pin it down exactly. It's like the Pumpkins are constantly on their own journey musically and immersed in their own vibe with a kind of blind confidence that doesn't care if you 'get it' or not. But after more than two decades of being a fan, I know one thing for sure -- there is a rich vein of inspired creativity in their work and there is always something to 'get' out of it. Each time is as rewarding as the last. There is no substitution for them and the music they make. Can't wait for the new album.

      @j-mohunter5670 Před 3 lety +2

Eh, anyone who's into all 5 original SP albums as opposed to one or 2 is into evolution of sound by default. Maybe this makes them hyper-sensitive to any change in sound that's perceived as the artist selling themselves short and not giving it 100% effort as we are accustomed to, basically if it sounds easier/simpler then it is in a fact a devolution not evolution of sound. No points for recycling one's past triumphs into smoother more digestible pieces. It''s highly subjective and those fans can definitely be wrong, but Billy Corgan is the sole songwriter here and could call the project whatever he wants creatively, so it's not out of left field to wonder if that's his sole motive in using the SP name for stuff that sounds, well nothing like SP. Using the same name inevitably invites comparisons to earlier stuff and Corgan knows that.
That said this one's growing on me lol and I'm ultimately pretty interested to see how this fits in with the rest of the album

This is such a great song, and cool music video.

I love the new style they are taking, and I always will still like their old school music, but it's exciting to see a band, or artist try different styles of music genres. Also, here is my TOP TEN - The Smashing Pumpkins list I did on Tuesday morning 27TH of October 2020 in Auckland, New Zealand:
    1.Bullet With Butterfly Wings
    2.Zero
    3.Cherub Rock
    4.Ava Adore
5.The End is the Beginning is the End
    6.Tarantula
    7.Doomsday Clock
    8.Tonight, Tonight
    9.CYR
    10.Drum & Fife

This song is amazing! Awesome synth pop going on. I can legitimately see this song being a hit on pop radio, it’s that good!

Really loving this meld of pre-Gish, happy Adore and TFE vibe...but with a new + evolving feel. Bravo!

This song is so badass I’m just speechless. I can’t even begin to describe how awesome it is. I can’t wait to see it performed in concert!

Despite all the bad reviews by critics measuring Corgan and the rest of the band by their great rock albums of the 90ies, CYR is a really good indie synthpop record.

    Belle énergie.
    J'adore !
    J'ai hâte d'écouter l'album.
Je suis excité comme à la sortie de Machina.
I'm listening to you since 93 and i've always supported SP, always waiting a new info and a new tour. Come in France. I was in Paris last year for your solo concert. It was incredible. 😘
