I once had a job on a Soviet fish processing ship in the Bering Sea. I listened to The Good Earth every day, three times a day, for a month, while looking out my cabin window at the ice floes
First heard a snippet of this song watching Something WIld and was disappointed that it didn't make it onto the soundtrack. Hypnotic. In the movie, The Feelies are the band at the class reunion -- love their take on Fame
The greatest thing about this song, which is outstanding in it's own right, is the song that follows it on The Good Earth album - "When Company Comes." They disconsonantly flow together like "I want you (She's so heavy)" and "Here Comes the Sun" on Abbey Road
Los Feelies suenan ahora mismo a todo trapo en una azotea en Córdoba, en el sur de España. Da igual el tiempo que pase aquí en España os respetamos, chavales.
That was f'n *awesome!* One of my favorite bands, who were still approaching the peak of their powers at the time, doing my favorite song of theirs to see live, shot at the legendary 40 Watt in Athens, GA of all places with excellent sound,, and I didn't discover this until just now. When I play along on guitar with the album version at home I always play Bill Million's rhythm parts and imagine myself jumping around all over the middle of the stage like him.
Saw 'em at The Blind Big in Ann Arbor in '91. What a frenetic night. I distinctly remember trying to get a concert flyer of theirs signed by the band. I had everyone but Bill. I looked around the venue and could find him. I asked Brenda where he was and she replied, "He's not feeling well, so he went upstairs. Give me your flyer and pen and I'll get him to sign it." She ran off and came back a few minutes later with it signed. I'll never forget that. Some people suggest that she probably forged it, but that seems rather silly. She could've just told me he was unwell and sorry about your luck. I've still got the flyer, by the way.
Saw them in an incredibly hot 930 club in DC several times. Also saw them open for Lou Reed on his New York New York tour. Always a great live band, they did an incredible cover of "Dancing Barefoot" when they opened for Lou.
I saw them on this tour at Hamilton College in The Hub in Clinton NY......one of the greatest 80's shows I ever saw...it was hot sweaty and sexy,I went to the show with three chicks from school and we had a blast........
@@maynardmoleman That band Tiny Lights is good too, they have this album hot chocolate massage that I really liked...moonwhite day I see was one song on there I favored. Anyway, sounds like you witnessed a great show!
@@etamommy yeah,in fact, the two chicks i went with,Bucky and i forget the other girl's name, told me about the show and they were excited not for the Feelies, they wanted to see the Tiny Lights....so i didn't know the Tiny Lights so I'm like meh and then they say they are opening for the Feelies and I'm like wow! Lets go! lol. yeah, the Tiny Lights were great too. I have a bootleg of the Feelies set, poor quality but cool to have
Just got my tickets to see this band at the Black Cat in D.C. in April (2024). They are still this god damn good. It is amazing. It doesn't make sense! AND they have two new records out. AND they just put out a record of all live Velvet Underground covers (?!?!) and it's so good if Lou Reed was alive he'd glower and chew angrily on his toothpick about it. What I'm saying is go see the Feelies because the world stinks and they're great.
I wish they would have a more "Czech" sounding name, especially today (yes, I know it's "yesterday" technically, BUT things are getting "funny" here too)

Can you refine this into a haiku? Or two stanzas of haiku? This is one of the best stories I've ever read.
This might be the the single most unique comment in the history of CZcams
Misha! Is that you?! I have been looking for you for years!
Best. Band. Ever.
I was at this show with my friend Laura. She was in Medical School at UGA and I drove down from Chattanooga. One of the heads in the crowd is mine.

This is such a wonderful document. Great performance. Great band.

Chances are we were at the same show(s)
Oh man, so good. Love this band.
Blast from the past. Saw them play in Madison, WI around the same time. One of the best live shows, along with Yo La Tengo, that I've ever seen.
+Joel House was it really You, since everyone is an "I"? Or was it I...
Maruszewski Sam yeah it was him
Lucky you Joel they are unsurpassable
Brilliant! ❤️ Thank you for sharing this! Have had a big love for the Feelies since mid 80's.

Incredible band. Thanks from Passaic County Boy now in N. cal
Thanks for this upload, Janice. Great version of Slipping.
Great tune. This band inspired top alternative bands like REM
Peter Buck helped produce this album.
@@theethos5181 His name is on the back of the album, but he'll tell you that he didn't do much at all.
They really were ahead of their time and somehow snuck thru the cracks of mainstream which makes them such a diamond in the rough.
Incredible!
My most recent discovery. Great track
great discovery! I just re-discovered this song and makes me want to go back and listen to about 4 of their albums I have and really like.
Amazing as always! ❤️
Brilliant! Thanks for the upload.

I don't think there has ever been a better song written than "Slipping..." This tune could be 10 minutes long and still end too soon
MGold i would have accidently flipped my shit into the ocean as the end of "slip into something comes to its' climax...gr8 story ty.

There may be a cooler band than Feelies, i just don't know who that might be ...
This song goes so hard to this day‼️‼️❤️❤️🤗🤗
