      North Dakotan here, and I haven't seen an Old Dutch TV commercial since the 1970s.

    As a Canadian, I'm not sure I've ever seen a commercial for Old Dutch. Chips seem to get by for just being the desired flavour in the chip aisle

      I'm 43 and yeah, never in my life have I seen an actual ad for Old Dutch. It looks like they used to advertise, though:

      Actually it is spelled, I T. Try been a Canadian expat in California, turning in homework and getting dinged for spelling neighbour, colour, flavour, labour, centre, theatre, licence, just to name a few. Then arguing with the teacher that she’s incorrect, look it up. Needless to say, I adjusted. Hell they even screwed with the dates here! Month/Day/Year, who does that? U.S.A. that’s who.

      Americans actually use a kind of ebonics, it's not proper English. Canadians use proper english, but because we are far fewer than our southern fam they like to make fun of us as if we are the ones who are spelling things oddly.

    For Lolsy & Sean, older basting brushes are just like paint brushes. They started making the silicone ones several years ago. But what was on that BBQ bag was accurate. Damon & George, those weren't Dill Pickle flavored. It was Creamy Dill. Dill is a herb all on it's own without anything cucumber/pickle related.

    Ketchup is one of the most popular condiments for french fries, yet when you slice them thin suddenly its a concept beyond comprehension.

    This brand is also in the upper Midwest of the US. I grew up in Minneapolis and that brand was the staple for chips. I moved away in the late 70s after high school and had not heard of them since - except now from this video. I was surprised they were still around. Thanks everyone!

    My favorite Old Dutch chip flavor is plain old “original”. Boring to some but Old Dutch is the only brand that I can actually taste a really clear delicious potato flavor.

      @@cyberdemon1702 They are a US Company, founded and based out of Minnesota. I do believe, however, Salt and Vinegar, All Dressed, and Ketchup are flavors only produced for the Canadian Market. If I'm remembering it correctly, that is.

    Do pickles not exist in Ireland outside of a McDonalds restaurant? That's the only reference ever used.

      I think in general in the UK and Ireland they aren't so prevalent. You get the occasional pickled onion or pickled egg but most pickles are spreads like chutney. So you wouldn't come across just slices of pickle on your sandwich or burger very often. I think it's because North America has a much stronger Jewish influence on their food than we do.

    In the early to mid 2000's Old Dutch had this line called Rave that they used to experiment with their chip flavours. I don't remember most of the flavours they had but they had one that was Extra Salt & Vinegar and it was by far the most intensely flavoured salt & vinegar chips I ever tried. I haven't seen them in a store in years though

      I live in Canada and I have customers in the USA correct me when I spell things like 'colour' and 'cheque' lol. Some don't even know what 'cheque' is, one person got it confused with quiche

    Hey Try crew, open the bags from the bottom and you'll get more seasoning flavor. The bags are stored upright so the seasoning settles since it's a powder, if you open it bottom first you get all the flavor powder that has settled to the bottom. :D

    All Dressed chips are by far the best chip I've ever tasted and I've never introduced them to someone that wasn't hooked instantly! My dreams were realized when they finally started selling them in Minnesota a few years ago!!! But..... then they mysteriously disappeared out of stores....never to be seen again. :'-(

      @@mickymoist This is Canada's favourite chip established in Winnipeg in 1954, -where I am from- and yes, they were were branded in Minnesota in 1934 first, however, we have adopted it as ours even though originally it was not. Our brands are quite different. I remember tasting bacon chips in Minnesota when m y dad was a truck driver in the '70's.They were the best. Just like us , we had hostess which came out the first ketchup chip.....then it was sold later to Lays.No hared feelings man.My 2 favourite states, North Dakota and Minnesota. Be well.

      I was going to go on about how they use sodium diacetate, which separates into sodium acetate (not sour) and acetic acid (sour), but apparently a lot of chips these days, including Old Dutch, primarily use a mixture of sodium acetate; acetic acid; maltodextrin, which absorbs the acetic acid that's liquid at room temperature; dried malt vinegar, for the flavor; and some selection of other, stronger, granular acids like citric acid and malic acid, for bite. Some still use sodium diacetate, but not usually on its own. And they do use salt, because sodium acetate isn't all the salty-tasting.
      So yes, Linda, they do have both salt and vinegar. Discuss.
