- These 2 commuter rail lines are similar in many ways. they both use DMUs for service, they are both west coast lines, and they both run similar service.
SMART has much better service and equipment IMHO. SMART runs mid-day and weekend trains, with a longer run connecting serval downtowns. The part where SMART misses is its connection to the ferry to SF could be better. WES is much better connected to MAX.
