    This isn't the only way to do it.
    It's probably not the best way to do it.
    But it's how I did it.

    We most certainly do still call them male and female connectors!

    That module looks interesting. Can't wait to see it in action.
    Nice RC kit. I can remember when the most basic RC TX/RX was in the hundreds of pounds.

    If it looks like Lead, Smells like lead, tastes like lead, It probably is.
    If its genuine antique Pewter/Whitemetal, then it also lead!

    I think I may be experiencing 'mail envy' 😆
    Nice score this week.
    I reckon you will need to grab another pack of those "Dupont"connectors. It's one of those items that looks like you have plenty, right up until you go use then...

    Good thing you have some leaded solder on hand so you can test the swabs if they really work.. little demonstration would be nice :) .. thanks for this mailbag .. Oh and I bet that happens even to the most professional youtubers .. no worries ;)

      I got some a couple weeks ago - they seem to work well.
      I'm not sure how good the consistency or concentration of the lead detecting chemical is. I just treat "any colour change at all" as the presence of lead, I think that's their recommendation anyway.

    30 of those cables lying around? Think more! When I was working, we even had lots of the ones that you could plug another male into, so that you only needed one outlet for your computer and monitor. We had so many that one of my coworkers made a curtain for his cubicle out of them!

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  Před rokem +1

      Lol. 30 is the threshold where I start giving them away or finding alternate uses fro them.

    If they don’t call the plugs male and female anymore, what’s the new term?

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  Před rokem

      I've been told it's "plug and socket", but that isn't fully clear to me yet.

    • @j.f.christ8421
      @j.f.christ8421 Před rokem

      What we called it in the first place, plug & jack (aka socket). Male / female is the new term and isn't always accurate.

    Be vary wary of the Chinese IEC switched, fused power connectors. One of my 3D printers had the exact same unit you showed. It melted and went open circuit (thank goodness). I searched for another with the same dimensions on Aliexpress so I decided to order 2 replacements. After a month they arrived and on installing the first one, no go. One of the poles on the 2 pole switch was open when in the closed position. Threw in the next one and it got me going again. I did more research to find a similar one with proper dimensions, found one on digikey and will be ordering one this week. DO NOT play around with suspect Chinese quality when working with components in your mains circuitry. Is burning down your house/shop worth saving a couple bucks???

      He used to, he makes his own now to get over a few flaws those boards have. Glitches due to RF interference, spikes from motors etc. Another problem was things like holes being drilled smaller etc.

    Lead in glassware and pottery isn't much of a concern, but it 's nice to know. However, the yellow and orange crockery very popular in N. America in the early 20th century has Uranium salts to make the colour . Do you have a geiger counter? Still not very dangerous though.

    Those look like JST-SM (or cones of...). They're actually 2.5mm not 2.54mm so that listing is all over map... The official ones are rated for 3A and they're sometimes used for 3D printer hot ends.

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos Před rokem +1

      I doubt they are genuine JST terminals anymore than genuine Dupont. JST terminals, should really be made by Japan Solderless Terminal, which is the company that invented them, but there are so many clones that just say they are JST now.
      That aside, they do look like JST Style terminals.

      I've been told it's "plug and socket".
