After a traumatic year, all an Indian-American teen wants is to go from pariah to popular - but friends, family and feelings won’t make it easy on her. - Zábava

Just finished the series. She did really well considering this was her first show and that too as a lead. 👏👏

It's was so entertaining that I didn't sleep all night!
She portrayed being a garbage person good I can't lie
Finished it and loved it 😀
@Andrej_Trajceski I think you have her confused with another brown girl mate 🤪
finally an actress that didn't start acting at the age of 2 this is inspiring for me:)
So true
ikr
exactly!!! i’m south asian and my parents really don’t want me to be anything else but a doctor. she is so inspiring. and the fact that this was her first ever tv show too?!?! like so many other actors/actress spend years before they get their big break.
I dont think it is that hard, you just need to be able to find auditions that fit your description and audition. Unfortunately, not alot of netflix nationwide auditions are going to have your exact description so it's hard to get out there and audition

Surprisingly I finished a whole season in less than 5 hours. Simple story but entertaining. It feels end so fast... and I hope the next season come fast too 😁
They said it’s gonna come out in 2022 😭😭
Schittbrick2 WHAT who said that
Schittbrick2 what? there have been no statements as it came out like 2 days ago.
I did research turns out Paxton is 11 years older than her
I just watch to day all the episodes it was awesome
is no one gon appreciate how gorgeous she actually is ...
yellowfellow your jealousy is SCREAMING 🤚🏼 she’s sooo gorgeous, quit lying to yourself

yellowfellow I’m not one to give fake compliments, but she honestly is very beautiful: her eyes and complexion. You can’t justify spreading negativity about someone.
I love how I cried during half of the season😭 this show is so good I love it. They better have more seasons.
I Love jun omg I cried so much too, I acc broke down in the last episode, I rlly want a season 2
@CRICKET TADKA do u mean worst?
CRICKET TADKA than don’t watch it lmao that simple
I swear same I was an emotional wreck half the show
I Love jun I literally thought it was just me
I never expected to see a fellow brown person from Mississauga on a TV screen, bravo!!
Ford Prefect factsss
why is her skin color important ya racist?

Mic M Right!! The Aunties are always talking
Lmao, girl same!
Same
Especially the episode with the cultural event in the public high school and all those aunties 😂😅
Hey
I’m i the only one weirded out by the fact main actress is 17 and Paxton is played by a 29* year old.
Just you bud
Actually when I saw the trailer the first thing I thought that the guy looks way older than the rest of the cast on google says the actor is 29 for me is also kinda weird
He looks his age and so does she. I guess its weird now that I think of it.
Millie she’s 18
18 and 29....
I wish more celebrities/casting directors would allow people to send in videos like this. Agents are expensive.
You DON’T have to pay for agents, if they ask you to pay anything that is not a comission, they are a scam.
An agent should only ever take money once you've booked a job. If they're asking for joining fees/monthly fees they're absolutely a scam.
if you have to pay for an agent then they are scamming you. agents should be free.
Agents aren’t expensive because you don’t pay them up front! They get paid when you book a role
can't believe i spent my whole evening binge watching this! season 2 pleasee!
Is the show good?
Yes it is! You should watch it
mattdeguile. I just finished ahaha and started at 7 it’s amazing

being an Indian, it's really awkward to see how Indian - Americans pronounce their own name wrong 😂😂😂
EDIT: thanks for so many likes. I'm well aware that she is Sri Lankan Tamil brought up in Canada but her name isn't pronounced the way she said. Jokes only, calm down 😂✌🏽
True 🤞🏻
Just out of curiosity, how should it be pronounced?
So true 😂
Does she really don't know how to pronounce her name or she's just...........??
I think she just pronounced her name like that because she's speaking English. For example if I am in the US I would say Montreal in English but if I am in Quebec I would say Montréal in French. It's just adapting to the situation because people get confused so easily ☺
i’m so happy for her but like how do you even find “acting jobs” for netflix??
Mindy Kaling put out an open casting call mainly for the lead role. Pretty sure the other characters were casted through acting agencies or acting managers.
Agents but I’m not sure how she already had an agent if she wasn’t working lol.
@@jamiegarcia7863 most actors get an agent way before they start doing big time work, that's how you book bigger roles. Most people get an agent when they're a nobody and their agent sends them out to castings. Most major castings go through agencies
My mom sent me the script for this show, but it was to inappropriate for me lol
@@MayaSangha How did she get the script? Is she an agent as well?
This is crazy I was just watching this last night/this morning
Wait did it come out yesterday?
Same tbh
I was awake till 4 am and now my head hurts. I cried laughed and related so much.
Sameee
I just finished today
My husband even enjoyed the show he’s a middle aged Indian man lol
Ok but did anyone else cry in Episode 6 (Bens storyline)
Yes!!!!!!!! 😭
Binge watched Brooklyn 9 9 before starting the show and was surprised to see Jake Peralta!
I felt so bad ://
Yessss I felt so bad for him
i bawled omg
I hated how kamala ditched her boyfriend for someone who she met a few seconds before!
Same 🤯. I was rooting for them..
She wasn’t really serious about him. She kept making up excuses on why they shouldn’t date etc. It made sense. It was most certainly selfish, but it made sense
Same, it felt like they were trying to portray a message of “do what makes you happy” and just scrapped it last minute.
Same, that has to be the one of the only parts of the show I didn't get.
i don’t think you have seen prashant clearly
When she said Mississauga is basically the new LA like she’s speaking bare FACTS. 😭😭
But is it though?
You’re definitely from Toronto If you say “Bare facts” lmao
@@prathapkutty7407 lmao not even close
it was a joke lol

Go Maitreyi! Tamil girl represent! 😍❤️❤️❤️
@sandeep singh you fool
watch it properly shes from mississauga " CANADA" not america
and she's srilank tamil... watch the series there is few words in tamil... mind ur languagedude ... without knowing anything talking like all known is called "FOOL" thats yu
respect women ...
learn that and make comments in public
@sandeep singh lol maitreyi Ramakrishnan is a Hindu name,Rama and Krishna are Hindu gods
@sandeep singh what does nationality or religion has to do with ethnicity anyway? She will be a Tamil whether she is christian or hindu or whatever and whether she is from chennai or Vancouver or LA or whatever.such a Lame logic.
Nithish Nithish LOl....nithish is actually my dogs name
@@cheezebourgir dear ,I'm a Tamil too ,I'm proud of my Hindu Tamil heritage I'm from Chennai capital of tamilnadu state, India
Mississauga finally found the clout it's been looking for
But seriously the show is freaking awesome and it's great to see such diversity (and a fellow Canadian sister)!!!
Yathu S name some bro. Cuz Idk what ur talking about
NELK boys
Jahseh Chilton yeah anyone else? That one’s obvious
DaeDae PARTYNEXTDOOR reps sauga a lot
Haha lmao right, finally woot!
As a south african indian I didn't know I'd relate this much😅 also every other character's development was so emotional and funny
Growing up, I had a lot of African Indian friends too and it was really interesting and lovely to see the representation of similar experiences I'd witnessed on screen. This was such a good show. Mindy did a spectacular job
I liked how they emphasized some stereotypes and reversed some others. E.g. the asian girl is into drama while the black girl is into science, haha
Dude but the "black girl" is Indian-American and that means shes from Asia too lol
She’s talking about fabi…
@@august-bl1jh Fabiola
@@RKtennis1 @Lavanya Rawat ohh okay
Go Maitreyi! It's crazy to think that she went to my school last year and was friends with all of us. We all knew you would be a star! Can't wait till you do more shows. We all love you :)
Unicorns Forever reallly that’s soo cool!
I’m from Toronto and so happy to see where her journey takes her caucus another actor from Mississauga named Simu Liu started out on Kims Convince and boom now he’s gonna be joining Marvel in Shang-Chi gooo Canada we are finally slowly being recognized
@@MindlessArianne Canada in the past 2 years have gotten reconigition the most. From drake (obviously), to the raptors last year, to the weeknd smashing and breaking records with his latest album, to Maitreyi blowing up because of this show and she does feel like one of us to basically anyone who's from sauga, toronto or brampton (which im from lmao)
But all canadians that make it big eventually move to the U.S.
I cried a few times during the flashbacks with Mohan but I got it together. Besides that, amazing job on her first show. It funny and entertaining but a lot of drama. 🔥🔥
did you know mohan is also the same actor who played bloodwork on the flash
Finished it in a day. Wish they were 1 hour long episodes but regardless I really loved it. Hope we get a season 2.
comedies are always half hour
as someone from mississauga and also growing up in an ethnic household this makes me so damn happy
I love how they portrayed her as a Tamil girl😍
When I saw the trailer first I thought they're going to portray her as a North Indian but man was I so wrong😄
💕 From Tamil Nadu
For the record, Maitreyi is Tamil-Canadian. Her parents come from Sri-Lanka, where war crimes were committed against Tamils over there and as a result, does not identify with Sri-Lanka like most children of Sri-Lankan Tamil immigrants.
And she does know how to pronounce her name in Tamil; she may say it like that in the video for the wider audience to easier to pronounce or she has just gotten used it, which I do admit can be a common problem among children of all immigrants, who speak a language other than English. To be honest and not to be rude, it is a beautiful name but it isn't as simple as some other names imo.
Very true, however if I were in her place, I would have definitely learned to pronounce my own name in the correct way, because we can't just give in to the way white people speak, we have our culture to sustain.
War crimes were by the LTTE tamil tigers
@@Anne-ug5ox What you said is very valid, and in this day and age, we do need to preserve our culture. But it isn't just white people, there are other people. Growing up and having to correct everyone can be frustating especially when the way the name is spelt doesn't match how it is said if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, Tamil is a beautiful and intricate language but some letters just don't translate well into English. It's like how Tamil in Tamil is said with a th at the beginning and there's that weird l thing at the end, if that makes sense, but in English you just say Tamil as it is. Hopefully that analogy makes sense.
@@Anne-ug5ox yea I sorta agree. I think that was an opportunity for her to have people pronounce it the correct way, but she sorta lost that opportunity when she pronounced it incorrectly.
I'm sorry, I am a Canadian born Indian and whether she says her name with a non-SL accent or not, or whatever else you wrote you have no right to really write who she identifies with culturally. We don't know her. Everyone is different and that is why this show is made so that people like you do not judge her based on how she pronounces her name.
This is the first time I saw someone with the name "maitrayi".. I always thought the name was beautiful but never met someone with it.. finally
There are many south Indians with that name !!
in my 6th class one girl had that name. its pretty common.
@@Vk-ek6od I have yet to meet one!!
@@arundhar5791 regardless I think it's a very unique and beautiful name
I think it means friendship

Ma at 3 A.m “Um I can start this serie tv, just one episode” me at 7 a.m “ just one more , WHAT ? It was the last episode ???”
LITERALLY me last night. Slept at 6:30 am and woke up at 2pm
Edgar Sanchez quarantine got our schedules fucked up 😔
And this is probably my favourite show on Netflix
For people fighting in the comments. She is not Indian-American she is Tamil-Canadian and her Tamil part is from Sri Lanka not India. And for the curious ones out there it should be pronounced as My-th-ree. Or Mi-th-ree.
But honestly for all purposes (practical or otherwise) she is a Canadian. It would be foolish to suggest otherwise. And she is a great actor too. Hope she has a bright future ahead.
Finally a sensible comment. She's Canadian but her heritage is Tamil. Why are people having long debates idk lol
@@liltiger4187 Ikr. She was born and raised in Canada for crying out loud. Honestly i have no idea why people claim ownership once anyone becomes successful.
The fact that I binged the whole show in one day and am getting ready for another run through right now :) SEASON TWO PLEASEEE

This girl is whipsmart and does the awkward teen thing so well. She's a joy to watch.
I just finished the series cried my eyes out cuz it was so relatable and now I find out your a sauga mans tooo wtfffff
So the real question...is there going to be a season 2
there better be omg i need to know what happens between devi and ben, what paxton's message was, and if the india move is scrapped or not
haniyaA khan there are too many unanswered questions.
Netflix typically announces their renewals the following year...Given COVID-19, and backlog of halted production, may not see anything until late 2021 😔
surely they would have a season 2 there are so may unanswered questions we all have
There most likely be considering how impactful and successful the show is but it won't happen until covid-19 is over so maybe 2021 or worst comes to worst... 2022
I first saw the trailer in Netflix a couple of weeks ago and got very very interested in it. So I set a reminder to let me know when the show comes online. I am sooo glad I did that! It would have been a great miss if I didn’t watch the show immodestly!
