You’re kidding right? Mexico elected the Mexican version of Bernie Sanders. So he cancelled it and lost half the money. Then built a far way piece of shit tacky structure.
unfortunately this project was cancelled when the new president was sworn in because it was too corrupt & expensive & opted too a much more cheaper airport by that (AIFA). Which tbh the brand new supposedly cheaper AIFA airport which opened in 2022 was more expensive than the NAICM project, it was also poorly designed on location, infrastructure, connectivity & usage. AIFA is quite a huge failure because of the previously mentioned factors, Texcoco on the other hand had plans to replace the aging & overused AICM airport, create a national park on the ancient lake bed, create a new community on the old airport side, the infrastructure was already present, it was closer too the city & had plans & land to expand in the long term future, AIFA has none of those plans. its quite a sad story because the airport had so much potential too create huge economic benefits, but thx too a dumb politician the plans where scrapped & now where stuck with the aging AICM airport, which ever since AIFA opened up has caused so many air accidents, & AIFA is and was destined to fail from the start. now that this year a new president will be elected & I hope this politician reconsiders this president's wrong doing & revive the project because its an amazing airport & Mexico deserves a good airport. saludos from Mexico city
