Band BIO:
Pentatonix is an American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. Characterized by their pop-style arrangements with vocal harmonies, basslines, riffing, percussion, and beatboxing, they produce cover versions of modern pop works or Christmas songs, sometimes in the form of medleys, along with original material. Pentatonix formed in 2011 and subsequently won the third season of NBC's The Sing-Off, receiving $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. When Sony's Epic Records dropped the group after The Sing-Off, the group formed its CZcams channel, distributing its music through Madison Gate Records, a label owned by Sony Pictures.Their CZcams channel currently has over 18 million subscribers and 4 billion views. The group's video tribute to Daft Punk had received over 340 million views as of December 12th, 2020.

They waited years to cover this because they didn’t want to make a cover of this song that didn’t do it justice. You need experience this one live! That megaphone is just a prop for the video. He doesn’t need it and doesn’t use it in concert It’s gotten so much tighter too! I saw this one with both Avi and then Matt, as bass and I tell you- Avi is of course s as legend... but Matt is quite a bass himself and fits seamlessly with this group. I was a bit weary with this song but he kills it too. You both REALLY need to make sure you get to one of their concerts eventually- you’ll be blown away. You know it’s good when you see them security guys at the concert, with their arms crossed looking all tough at an “a cappella” concert, start hopping their heads and jamming by the end lmfao
That's awesome that they did. Shows how much love and passion they have for what they do. Of course we definitely will see them live one day. I sure Matt kills it. Would have been great to see with Avi as well. We'll go nuts haha
I've been told that the megaphone is just a prop and is never turned on, and that in concerts he no longer holds one. In other words, you're right, it's just voice.

Yep, he has been imitating things since he was a kid. He can imitate the sound of a dry erase marker on a white board seconds after someone uses one. He also did this similar wah wah sound sans effects on the Sing off at the start of "Let's Get It On" (the trio were only 19 on that show).

Lots of nods to the original in this one - Kevin's drum sound was as close to Roger Taylors kit as he could get it, the starscape is for Dr Brian May's PhD in astrophysics, the group falling onto the couch at the end was for the album art for Queen's Sheer Heart Attack, the panning (glad you caught that guys !! ) was all over the original track, the couch was actually for how PTX grew their fanbase on CZcams after they lost their album deal a week or so after winning the SingOff.... I'm pretty sure Freddie was smiling down on them when they finally finished this one - it took them a while to decide to do it. Great reaction guys - I"m so glad you finally got to it !!

Take the time to do the popspring concert live video. It is 15 minutes with 3 originals and the Michael Jackson tribute. It is amazing how good they are live. You will not be sorry.

It's not true that the guitar solo is "just Mitch's voice". Kevin said in an interview that they electronically manipulated Mitch's solo to sound more like a guitar. BUT Mitch still has to do the runs and riffs and put his own effects on it by using vocal techniques to mimic a guitar. And I've heard him do it live and it does indeed sound VERY much like the recording.

No tissues needed for this one. This is just plain fun (and mind-blowing too)! BTW, the megaphone was just a prop that Mitch decided to use on the video because it looked good. No megaphone was used in the recording, nor do they use it in concert. Watching you guys' reaction was a lot of fun because I like it when people "get it"! Right after this video was released, Queen guitarist Brian May shared it on all of his social media platforms with just one word in the description box: "ENJOY!" OMG! Someone who knows about the panning at the beginning of the song! I’m always surprised how many so called Queen fans don’t know or haven’t heard the panning in the original.
