While the scene where he tried to shoot the two villains and finds his gun missing was indeed a callback to the first movie, the scene right after that where he has to stop mid-chase, then run away followed by a large number of thugs was also a callback -- to his role as Han Solo in the first Star Wars movie.
The 80s was a decade of incredible films. All done practically with miniatures, stunts and real explosions. This kind of stuff is not produced today. What’s more to realize is that there was no internet, no 600 channels on tv, no Netflix etc, so the experience of seeing films like this on the big screen was sheer magic. Also the anticipation was through the roof…you could not wait to go to the movies and be taken on the roller coaster ride. Fantastic times that won’t return.
Temple of Doom was always my favourite Indy film. Glad you guys enjoyed it so much. A lot of people didn't seem to like it mainly because of Willie and found her too annoying, but I loved the contrast between her and Indy's character. Her being scared of absolutely everything and Indy's macho approach made for some real funny moments. Short Round was brilliant too. Loved him as Data in The Goonies, and he was equally awesome in this. The whole movie is just a complete rollercoaster ride from beginning to end! Can't wait for The Last Crusade reaction. The chemistry between Harrison and Sean Connery as his dad is brilliant.
The thing I love the most about this trilogy is how every one is different. The original is a action film, this one is a horror movie, the third one is a comedy, and the fourth one is an abomination. I haven’t brought myself to watch the newest one yet.
I agree with you 💯 The new one is definitely better then Crystal Skull hands down, it definitely has its issues but for his age I appreciate he fave us one last thrill and I liked it. Hated the female lead shes definitely the major issue, Disney has to go woke with things now
The events of this movie actually take place before Raiders. Meaning, when he did not have the gun for the swordsmen, it was actually the first time he did it.

Favorite indiana jones film. It's so chaotically fun, even with willie making you reach for the aspirin. I love they gave us an actual final battle with the villain in this one. That bridge scene..iconic
I would consider it extremely close to being the perfect movie. For me, a lot of films (no matter how good) have certain scenes or moments that are not good. Last crusade I feel doesn't have a single moment that would be considered bad
My uncle was supposed to take me to see Wrath of Khan when I was 5, but took me to the wrong theatre by mistake, so we watched this instead. It was already started and was at the car chase scene when we got our seats. While it might not be the most appropriate for a five year old to watch, it made me an Indiana Jones fan instantly.

At the beginning, as they were in the library, she put her hand in front of my face/mouth, and when the skeleton lady looks back (impressive effect !), I did bite her... hahaha... I used to not like this movie that much, but it's really grown on me over time. Of course, Short Round helps. Also, love how Indy is always amused at Willie's suffering.
Its an acquired taste. It is Darker and ther's Willy constant screaming and nagging, BUT it is still a good Indiana jones movie. Indy's and Short-round relation and interactions is everything in this imo Makes me regret that we never had more of these two in another movie. Would take the 4th or 5th movie to include an adult SHort-round, where he ends up being adopted by Indy, even tho they grew apart due to their differences, but having Short-round that would go after Indy to help him and then carry on the Torch of the Proffesor Jones.
Ke Huy Quan did not leave acting purely by choice. He just wasn't getting parts, so he decided to go into the production side of things, that is, until he famously returned with a bang and won an Oscar for his part in "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once".
The British officer in uniform attending the banquet in the palace also appeared in 'The Shining' in 1980 as Mr. Grady who 'corrected' his wife and two daughters in the Overlook hotel.
This is my favorite of the three, it's a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's my favorite because it shows you how Indy became Indy, even in the beginning he's not doing work for anything other than a fortune (The Diamond) and even when he goes to the Palace it's for fortune and glory. However along the way he stops thinking about his own benefit and helps the children and grows as a character. Even to the end where he's willing to lose all of the other stones save one and he brings that back to the village. My favorite scene is after he says that they're all going to leave (including the children) you have the mine cart slowly illuminate him, and then you hear the two punches and see the guard go flying back. This is the episode of Indy's life where he becomes the actual Hero.
The giant boss who ends up under the steamroller is played by Pat Roach. He already appeared in the first movie : he's the bald guy who was fighting with Indy in front of the plane. ;)
16:21 While filming that shot where he flips the assassin stuntman over his back, Harrison Ford ended up rupturing a spinal disc. He had to use a gurney to rest on while shooting takes, but his injury deteriorated and he had to be flown back to L.A. for surgery and physical therapy. Luckily, he recovered and made it back to the set just before shooting schedule ended.
Keep in mind, the events in Temple of Doom take place in 1935, prior to Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1936 (Last crusade (1938), Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls (1957) and Dial of Destiny (1969), respectively)
See that’s actually weird to me. This one just has such a follow-up energy to it. Like Indy in Raiders would be so unfazed if this had happened to him a year earlier. A serious misstep on the screenwriter’s part imho.
This was my first Indy film that i watched and then watched the raiders and then the last one. This is my favorite movie. Fun facts: • For the bug chamber sequence, Kate Capshaw was really covered with over two thousand insects. She took sedatives prior to the scene to get over her initial fear, and claimed "they definitely worked". • D.R. Nanayakkara, cast as the Indian village Shaman, did not speak a word of English. He delivered his lines phonetically by mimicking Steven Spielberg who was prompting him off-camera. The pauses in his dialogue were therefore not for dramatic effect, but rather waiting for his next line. • Ke Huy Quan's film debut. An open casting call was put out to all the elementary schools to find a young Asian actor to play Short Round. Quan arrived with his brother, not to audition, but merely to provide moral support. He caught the casting director's attention because he spent the entire time of his brother's audition telling him what to do and what not to do. Steven Spielberg liked his personality, so he and Harrison Ford improvised the scene where Short Round accuses Indy of cheating during a card game. Quan won the role over about 6,000 other auditions. • The nightclub in the opening scene is called Club Obi-Wan, a homage to the Star Wars character. • This film is banned in India and never shown on TV channels in India. • Harrison Ford suffered a herniated disc in his back in the scene where he is attacked in his bedroom by a Thuggee assassin, causing production to be shut down while Ford was flown to Los Angeles for spinal surgery. You guys laughed in all the rights parts for this movie! I’ve seen a lot of reaction videos to this movie and they just don’t get the comedy additions Spielberg put in. This is my absolute favorite of the Indiana Jones films. And this is an unpopular opinion, but Willie is my favorite lady from the movies. I liked the fact that she is a total girly girl and is completely unprepared for this adventure but she makes it through. And of course Short Round is a legend. This is my Indiana Jones. It’s not everyone’s favorite of the franchise, in fact it is Spielberg’s LEAST favorite of the franchise, but it is my Indiana Jones and I love everything about it, the locations, the story, Short Round, Willie, Mola Ram, the secrets of that damn palace, everything. It’s a roller coaster ride from start to finish. This is my childhood. I still have the vhs my dad recorded the from the movie from hbo back in 1989 🥲

First time I heard the narrative of _Temple Of Doom_ being not good was around the year 2021. 😂 In the 80s and 90s the opinion was 50-50 on which film was the better one, if the first or the second. The third one beign a massive favorite is also a very recent narrative from five years ago. 😂
I love that. My favorite is Raiders but having experienced all three films in the theaters I love them all. Making this one of the greatest trilogies ever. Don't listen to anyone Temple of Doom rocks.
Two of my most informative memories of childhood was seeing the crocodiles rip apart the bad guy when I was like 6, and a short "making of" feature where they showed the miniatures of the mine cart chase. It was the first time I ever saw a movie miniature and it blew my tiny brain. This movie encapsulates a lot of what I remember about the vibe and style of the early 90s (despite coming out in '84. I guess movies were just copying it for a long time) Can't wait for last Crusade! It's my favourite!
Dan Ackroyd played the guy who took them to the plane. A lot of people were not happy with the character of Willy especially since she ended up being Mrs Spielberg, they felt she was super annoying. The white tux he wore at the beginning was a nod to James Bond.

I dunno. I watched way worse. There is a reason there were Robocop and Rambo cartoons. My childhood (and my friends childhoods) wouldn't have been as awesome without watching the Fly and Hellraiser when we were 10. We had so much fun back in those days... Nightmare on Elm Street is something you NEED to watch when you are ten. And some of those movies KNEW that we were watching. Oh, hell, did they know... Talking about how awesome that hearth scene was between classes at school is a cherished memory.
This is the first movie that I remember seeing in the movie theater when I was 7 years old and I absolutely loved the heart being taken out of the chest and them serving monkey brains for dinner.

Definitely my fav of all the Indiana Jones films…I love how dark it is & it just added to the drama & Indy’s heroics…by the way, one theory people have come up with over the years is that the whole Indiana Jones series is just Han Solo dreaming while frozen in Carbonite from Empire Strikes Back to Return of the Jedi 🤯

These movies are just so much damn fun! The next one - The Last Crusade - is USUALLY pointed to as so many people's favorite one. Even the "bad ones" are still worth enjoying for what they are.
You're right - while Crystal Skull is relatively bad compared to the other Jones movies it's still a solid action adventure movie worth watching. And honestly the new one I found a worthy entry for the series again. :) Oh - and did you watch Spielberg's "Tintin" movie? I of course did (I have all the comic books since I was a kid) and it's actually better than I expected, but I had to laugh out lout during that one long chase scene down the mountain through a village - the whole setup and execution was SO Indiana Jones! A chase scene with people fighting on the vehicles with a bunch of awesome (CGI) stuntwork. I tell ya, the soundtrack SO wanted to go: ""Daaat Dadat Daaaaa!" during that scene several times. :D
@@commanderkruge I love the fact that the first 3 movies are all just really homages to earlier films and the whole adventure genre. Crystal Skull is an homage to the movies that came about 20 years later, and I haven't seen Dial of Destiny yet. The point is, these movies took an entire genre of films and updated them and they're exactly what they're supposed to be: FUN. Furthermore, anyone who watches Temple of Doom and believes the whole raft falling bit shouldn't complain about the fridge bit in Crystal Skull. These movies aren't meant to be taken THAT seriously.

I’m literally shocked you 2 didn’t even mention how strong the horror element is in this one. That was audiences’ biggest takeaway from it in 1984, that shocked audiences and parents everywhere were up in arms about it. You see a grisly gory human sacrifice, you have Indy getting force fed blood & becoming demonically possessed, children getting whipped, then zero mention of any of that. Yes the action sequences are fantastic as well as you described, and the opening is indeed James Bond energy all around. I’m just floored by zero mention of the horror.
This is my favourite Indiana Jones film. It's the one that I watched on repeat growing up and I absolutely adore it. Biggest crime of the franchise was not bringing back Short Round - my favourite character!!! I definitely had some beef with Willie when I was younger though, as I didn't know then that this was technically a prequel and Indiana hadn't left Marion for Willie. Because who on earth would ever make that decision? Though some of her reactions are definitely valid and she's good fun to watch! I'll get slightly political and say that I don't really understand why this film was banned in India. Indiana Jones says himself that what the Thuggee cult have done is a twisted take on Hinduism and they have shamed Kali. They are a cult and obviously what they are doing is wrong. That's explicitly said. It's not putting any shame or backlash on Indians or Hinduism as a whole, at least in my opinion. It's doing the same thing that plenty of Hollywood films do with Christianity or other beliefs, such as the movies Apostle, The Ritual, Midsommar, and even a classic like Carrie. I don't know, please correct me if I'm wrong, that's just how I see it. Though if it's because of the banquet scene, I can definitely understand.

Short Round-Ke Huay Kuan(?)-is the only reason I watched this movie as a kid. My grandparents had two VHS box sets at their house-Star Wars and Indiana Jones. My older sister thought the dinner scene with all the crazy animal dishes was the best thing ever. At 6 years old I found it terrifying. Lol so I focused on Short Round and occasionally closed my eyes.
I was 1 when this came out. I want to say I was 4or5 when my father showed them to me on VHS, because I was 6 when Crusade hit theaters, and I must have gone to see it at least 3 or 4 times w/my dad. I loved the hell out of all 3 growing up, but Doom was always my favorite as kid due to the fact that it's so DARK💀 BEST childhood EVER!
Watching this reminds me that the kid who played Short Round (and Data in the Goonies) grew up to win an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at once. And in the coincidences department he won it on the same day as Brendan Frazier (who he was in Encino Man with) won his. And Michelle Yeogh also won an Oscar on the same day and SHE had been in The Mummy 3 with Brendan Frazier. I can imagine them sharing one heck of a party.
Speaking of modern heroes. I heard Vin Diesel and the Rock have contract clauses that state they cannot lose badly in a fight. They can get hit but not beat.
Basically Indy stumbles from one cliffhanger scene to the next, that's his thing. Oh - and fighting on moving vehicles. :) Indy, at first will get his ass kicked to then come swinging back harder. :) Back to the cliffhangers: The old cinema adventure serials were one of the main inspiration for Indiana Jones. And at the end of each episode the heroes would get into a deadly situation with (seemingly) no escape just before the end credits rolled. So the audience would come back next week to see, how they get out of danger. That's what a "cliffhanger" is. And the Indy movies adapted the formula into feature length films - Indy gets dipped into deep poo again and again - but in the end, of course, saves the day. MAN these movies are HUGE fun. I saw the first one over fifteen times in cinemas alone - each time I'd get a chance I'd re-watch it. "Oh, it's in the matinee programme of the town we're on vacation in? I know what I'll do today!" :D. I was 13 when Temple of Doom came out - and it again was AWESOME! Probably not really for my age, but I LOVED it like part one.

Backstage, Harrison looked at him as he was walking past and said "Are you ShortRound?" and he replied "Yes, Indy!" or "Yes, Doctor Jones!" and then they had that beautiful moment on stage! He's also in the new Loki season!
Willie is played by Steven Spielberg's second (and current) wife, Kate Capshaw. What's funnier is Spielberg's first wife, Amy Irving, whom he was only dating at the time, was offered the role of Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark, but they recast due to a breakup.
I know Willie gets a lot of flack, but honestly...I feel that given the horrific circumstances her reactions are not only understandable, but utterly reasonable

This was my favorite of the series as a kid. The first and third are Biblical. The second and fourth are just straight up crazy nonsensical magic / aliens weird pulp adventures. It's a pattern. Unlike a lot of people, I don't hate the fourth one, but I have real problems with some parts of it. I like it for what it is. the same way I have to like this one for what it is even though as an adult, they leaned so hard into the pulp genre that it was really kind of problematic here and there. But it was a lot of fun and that was the point of it. There's a lot in here that reminds me of this movie that was out in like the late 80s called Young Sherlock Holmes. It was a movie where people were being mummified with boiling wax, it was crazy. This kind of stuff.... you're right, they just don't do it anymore. Just over the top insane adventures. Product of it's time... and what a wonderful product these were.
Did you notice that the guy at the airport talking to Indy just before he boards the plane is none other than the legendary Dan Aykroyd. He had a non credited cameo.

The nightclub at the beginning, IS called Club Obi-Wan, a direct reference to the Star Wars character. And in "Raiders", R2-D2 and C-3PO appear in hieroglyphs.
11:57 - Spielberg and Ford recognized Ke Wei Quan's talent right away, so they got together and improvised this poker interaction on the spot. 22:35 - In another case of important info lost to the cutting room floor, there is a deleted scene where Short Round sees one of the guards get burned by a jet of lava, at which point the guard comes out of his brainwashed state just before the other guards drag him off. That's how he learned that being burned breaks the curse. After you finish with Indiana Jones, you need to check out his spiritual successor from the 90s, Brendan Frasier in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. The bugs, the music, the fact that it had "Data from Goonies" and a ton of kids being freed, I thought it was just so incredibly cool. Now as an adult, I think it's the sexiest of the films. I blame it on Harrison Ford being in his element and slightly sweaty while his clothes are slowly torn away. Also as a kid, that fall from the plane was fucking epic.
When this came out, there was controversy when little kids all over the US who had seen Raiders freaked out during the sacrifice scene, running from theaters everywhere.
It's pretty damn cool that Short Round grew up to become an Oscar-winning actor. Congrats to him.

Favorite indiana jones film. It's so chaotically fun, even with willie making you reach for the aspirin. I love they gave us an actual final battle with the villain in this one. That bridge scene..iconic

I would consider it extremely close to being the perfect movie. For me, a lot of films (no matter how good) have certain scenes or moments that are not good. Last crusade I feel doesn't have a single moment that would be considered bad

I love “Temple of Doom “! It was criticized when it was originally released, but I don’t care. For me, it was great.
My uncle was supposed to take me to see Wrath of Khan when I was 5, but took me to the wrong theatre by mistake, so we watched this instead. It was already started and was at the car chase scene when we got our seats. While it might not be the most appropriate for a five year old to watch, it made me an Indiana Jones fan instantly.
I was 7 years old when my mom took me to the theater to see this. A treasured memory.
I also saw it in the theater when I was 7, my mom took me and my sister. In the midst of the heart-ripping scene I looked over and my mom was asleep😁

I used to not like this movie that much, but it's really grown on me over time. Of course, Short Round helps. Also, love how Indy is always amused at Willie's suffering.

Ke Huy Quan did not leave acting purely by choice. He just wasn't getting parts, so he decided to go into the production side of things, that is, until he famously returned with a bang and won an Oscar for his part in "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once".
He is outstanding in season 2 of Loki

This is my favorite of the three, it's a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's my favorite because it shows you how Indy became Indy, even in the beginning he's not doing work for anything other than a fortune (The Diamond) and even when he goes to the Palace it's for fortune and glory. However along the way he stops thinking about his own benefit and helps the children and grows as a character. Even to the end where he's willing to lose all of the other stones save one and he brings that back to the village. My favorite scene is after he says that they're all going to leave (including the children) you have the mine cart slowly illuminate him, and then you hear the two punches and see the guard go flying back. This is the episode of Indy's life where he becomes the actual Hero.
No matter how many times I see these movies, there is so much action that I the end I take a deep breath like I've held it through the entire movie😂😂
The giant boss who ends up under the steamroller is played by Pat Roach. He already appeared in the first movie : he's the bald guy who was fighting with Indy in front of the plane. ;)

He had to use a gurney to rest on while shooting takes, but his injury deteriorated and he had to be flown back to L.A. for surgery and physical therapy. Luckily, he recovered and made it back to the set just before shooting schedule ended.
Keep in mind, the events in Temple of Doom take place in 1935, prior to Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1936 (Last crusade (1938), Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls (1957) and Dial of Destiny (1969), respectively)
See that’s actually weird to me. This one just has such a follow-up energy to it. Like Indy in Raiders would be so unfazed if this had happened to him a year earlier. A serious misstep on the screenwriter’s part imho.

This was my absolute favorite movie when it came out. I watched it so many times for years.
This was my first Indy film that i watched and then watched the raiders and then the last one. This is my favorite movie.
Fun facts:
• For the bug chamber sequence, Kate Capshaw was really covered with over two thousand insects. She took sedatives prior to the scene to get over her initial fear, and claimed "they definitely worked".
• D.R. Nanayakkara, cast as the Indian village Shaman, did not speak a word of English. He delivered his lines phonetically by mimicking Steven Spielberg who was prompting him off-camera. The pauses in his dialogue were therefore not for dramatic effect, but rather waiting for his next line.
• Ke Huy Quan's film debut. An open casting call was put out to all the elementary schools to find a young Asian actor to play Short Round. Quan arrived with his brother, not to audition, but merely to provide moral support. He caught the casting director's attention because he spent the entire time of his brother's audition telling him what to do and what not to do. Steven Spielberg liked his personality, so he and Harrison Ford improvised the scene where Short Round accuses Indy of cheating during a card game. Quan won the role over about 6,000 other auditions.
• The nightclub in the opening scene is called Club Obi-Wan, a homage to the Star Wars character.
• This film is banned in India and never shown on TV channels in India.
• Harrison Ford suffered a herniated disc in his back in the scene where he is attacked in his bedroom by a Thuggee assassin, causing production to be shut down while Ford was flown to Los Angeles for spinal surgery. A large portion of Ford's work in the fights and chases in the "Temple of Doom" is actually performed by stuntman Vic Armstrong. Normally, special care needs to be taken to hide a stuntman's face from the camera, but this proved to be largely unnecessary since Armstrong bore an uncanny resemblance to Ford at the time, both in face and body dimensions.
• The sounds of the mine car running along the tracks during the chase scene were recorded on the rollercoasters at Disneyland, with the music and sound effects turned off.
• While filming the whipping scene, the crew played a practical joke on Harrison Ford. While he was chained to a large stone, Barbra Streisand appeared, dressed in a leather dominatrix outfit. She proceeded to whip him, saying "That's for Hanover Street (1979), the worst movie I ever saw." She continued whipping him for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), and making all of that money. Carrie Fisher then threw herself in front of Ford to protect him, and Irvin Kershner chided director Steven Spielberg. "Is this how you run your movies?" This entire sequence was filmed.
You guys laughed in all the rights parts for this movie! I’ve seen a lot of reaction videos to this movie and they just don’t get the comedy additions Spielberg put in. This is my absolute favorite of the Indiana Jones films. And this is an unpopular opinion, but Willie is my favorite lady from the movies. I liked the fact that she is a total girly girl and is completely unprepared for this adventure but she makes it through. And of course Short Round is a legend. This is my Indiana Jones. It’s not everyone’s favorite of the franchise, in fact it is Spielberg’s LEAST favorite of the franchise, but it is my Indiana Jones and I love everything about it, the locations, the story, Short Round, Willie, Mola Ram, the secrets of that damn palace, everything. It’s a roller coaster ride from start to finish. This is my childhood. I still have the vhs my dad recorded the from the movie from hbo back in 1989 🥲

Indy making mistakes and take some beatings makes him relatable to most of us I think. That's why he work so well.
Two of my most informative memories of childhood was seeing the crocodiles rip apart the bad guy when I was like 6, and a short "making of" feature where they showed the miniatures of the mine cart chase. It was the first time I ever saw a movie miniature and it blew my tiny brain. This movie encapsulates a lot of what I remember about the vibe and style of the early 90s (despite coming out in '84. I guess movies were just copying it for a long time)

I dunno. I watched way worse. There is a reason there were Robocop and Rambo cartoons. My childhood (and my friends childhoods) wouldn't have been as awesome without watching the Fly and Hellraiser when we were 10. We had so much fun back in those days... Nightmare on Elm Street is something you NEED to watch when you are ten. And some of those movies KNEW that we were watching. Oh, hell, did they know... Talking about how awesome that hearth scene was between classes at school is a cherished memory.
That's why Spielberg insisted on the PG-13 rating afterward.
This, if I recall, was the first movie to get the PG13 rating. They basically invented it for this film.
This is the first movie that I remember seeing in the movie theater when I was 7 years old and I absolutely loved the heart being taken out of the chest and them serving monkey brains for dinner.

These movies were an homage to the old adventure action serials kids had at Saturday matinees before the 1960s when TV took over.
These movies are just so much damn fun! The next one - The Last Crusade - is USUALLY pointed to as so many people's favorite one. Even the "bad ones" are still worth enjoying for what they are.
You're right - while Crystal Skull is relatively bad compared to the other Jones movies it's still a solid action adventure movie worth watching. And honestly the new one I found a worthy entry for the series again. :)
Oh - and did you watch Spielberg's "Tintin" movie? I of course did (I have all the comic books since I was a kid) and it's actually better than I expected, but I had to laugh out lout during that one long chase scene down the mountain through a village - the whole setup and execution was SO Indiana Jones! A chase scene with people fighting on the vehicles with a bunch of awesome (CGI) stuntwork. I tell ya, the soundtrack SO wanted to go: ""Daaat Dadat Daaaaa!" during that scene several times. :D

@@commanderkruge I love the fact that the first 3 movies are all just really homages to earlier films and the whole adventure genre. Crystal Skull is an homage to the movies that came about 20 years later, and I haven't seen Dial of Destiny yet.
The point is, these movies took an entire genre of films and updated them and they're exactly what they're supposed to be: FUN.
Furthermore, anyone who watches Temple of Doom and believes the whole raft falling bit shouldn't complain about the fridge bit in Crystal Skull. These movies aren't meant to be taken THAT seriously.

Some of the mine cart scenes were done with miniatures and it blends so well with live action that you don't really spot it - very well done.

it probably been said before but - Ke Huy Quan (Short Round) recently returned to acting in the role of Waymond Wang in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once
I’m literally shocked you 2 didn’t even mention how strong the horror element is in this one. That was audiences’ biggest takeaway from it in 1984, that shocked audiences and parents everywhere were up in arms about it. You see a grisly gory human sacrifice, you have Indy getting force fed blood & becoming demonically possessed, children getting whipped, then zero mention of any of that. Yes the action sequences are fantastic as well as you described, and the opening is indeed James Bond energy all around. I’m just floored by zero mention of the horror.

This is my favourite Indiana Jones film. It's the one that I watched on repeat growing up and I absolutely adore it. Biggest crime of the franchise was not bringing back Short Round - my favourite character!!! I definitely had some beef with Willie when I was younger though, as I didn't know then that this was technically a prequel and Indiana hadn't left Marion for Willie. Because who on earth would ever make that decision? Though some of her reactions are definitely valid and she's good fun to watch!
I'll get slightly political and say that I don't really understand why this film was banned in India. Indiana Jones says himself that what the Thuggee cult have done is a twisted take on Hinduism and they have shamed Kali. They are a cult and obviously what they are doing is wrong. That's explicitly said. It's not putting any shame or backlash on Indians or Hinduism as a whole, at least in my opinion. It's doing the same thing that plenty of Hollywood films do with Christianity or other beliefs, such as the movies Apostle, The Ritual, Midsommar, and even a classic like Carrie. I don't know, please correct me if I'm wrong, that's just how I see it. Though if it's because of the banquet scene, I can definitely understand.

Short Round-Ke Huay Kuan(?)-is the only reason I watched this movie as a kid. My grandparents had two VHS box sets at their house-Star Wars and Indiana Jones. My older sister thought the dinner scene with all the crazy animal dishes was the best thing ever. At 6 years old I found it terrifying. Lol so I focused on Short Round and occasionally closed my eyes.
I was 1 when this came out. I want to say I was 4or5 when my father showed them to me on VHS, because I was 6 when Crusade hit theaters, and I must have gone to see it at least 3 or 4 times w/my dad. I loved the hell out of all 3 growing up, but Doom was always my favorite as kid due to the fact that it's so DARK💀

Watching this reminds me that the kid who played Short Round (and Data in the Goonies) grew up to win an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at once. And in the coincidences department he won it on the same day as Brendan Frazier (who he was in Encino Man with) won his. And Michelle Yeogh also won an Oscar on the same day and SHE had been in The Mummy 3 with Brendan Frazier. I can imagine them sharing one heck of a party.
Speaking of modern heroes. I heard Vin Diesel and the Rock have contract clauses that state they cannot lose badly in a fight. They can get hit but not beat.
Basically Indy stumbles from one cliffhanger scene to the next, that's his thing. Oh - and fighting on moving vehicles. :) Indy, at first will get his ass kicked to then come swinging back harder. :)
Back to the cliffhangers: The old cinema adventure serials were one of the main inspiration for Indiana Jones. And at the end of each episode the heroes would get into a deadly situation with (seemingly) no escape just before the end credits rolled. So the audience would come back next week to see, how they get out of danger. That's what a "cliffhanger" is. And the Indy movies adapted the formula into feature length films - Indy gets dipped into deep poo again and again - but in the end, of course, saves the day.
MAN these movies are HUGE fun. I saw the first one over fifteen times in cinemas alone - each time I'd get a chance I'd re-watch it. "Oh, it's in the matinee programme of the town we're on vacation in? I know what I'll do today!" :D. I was 13 when Temple of Doom came out - and it again was AWESOME! Probably not really for my age, but I LOVED it like part one.

SHORTROUND!!! Did y'all see where Harrison presented him with the award (Oscar?) for 'Everything, Everywhere, All At Once'?? Backstage, Harrison looked at him as he was walking past and said "Are you ShortRound?" and he replied "Yes, Indy!" or "Yes, Doctor Jones!" and then they had that beautiful moment on stage! He's also in the new Loki season!

This was my favorite of the series as a kid. The first and third are Biblical. The second and fourth are just straight up crazy nonsensical magic / aliens weird pulp adventures. It's a pattern. Unlike a lot of people, I don't hate the fourth one, but I have real problems with some parts of it. I like it for what it is. the same way I have to like this one for what it is even though as an adult, they leaned so hard into the pulp genre that it was really kind of problematic here and there. But it was a lot of fun and that was the point of it. There's a lot in here that reminds me of this movie that was out in like the late 80s called Young Sherlock Holmes. It was a movie where people were being mummified with boiling wax, it was crazy. This kind of stuff.... you're right, they just don't do it anymore. Just over the top insane adventures. Product of it's time... and what a wonderful product these were.

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. The bugs, the music, the fact that it had "Data from Goonies" and a ton of kids being freed, I thought it was just so incredibly cool. Now as an adult, I think it's the sexiest of the films. I blame it on Harrison Ford being in his element and slightly sweaty while his clothes are slowly torn away.
Also as a kid, that fall from the plane was fucking epic.
