Paripaadal in Tamil has all the numbers 0, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2,3, 4, 5,6,7,8,9 in the following poem hundred years earlier than Aryabhatta:
“பாழெனக் காலெனப் பாகென ஒன்றென
இரண்டென மூன்றென நான்கென ஐந்தென
ஆரென ஏழென எட்டென தொண்டென
நால்வகை ஊழிஎண் நவிற்றும் சிறப்பினை”
இதில் பாழ் என்பது ஒன்றும் இல்லாத “0” என்பது தொடங்கி காலென 1/4. பாகென 1/2, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 என எண்களை குறித்து பேசுகிறார்.
