As a native British person, I would say the number of “old-style” keys on the key ring is totally plausible. Many people live in houses one or two hundred years old, and they can have a real mix of keys. If anything, it would be more surprising there were three different modern-style Yale keys, in my experience you would typically find those on a front door, and why would you have three different ones? The lack of any car keys is also suspicious!
You have to remember Lee Mack is a very very smart man he plays it down a lot but he's very smart very quick witted. He is so good at thinking of things on the spot.
Those were not skeleton keys, just perfectly ordinary keys. Brits have a wide variety of keys.

Lee's stories aren't really about selling a lie anymore. They are really about the fun and performance. And the others trying to throw him off.
And that's because he is amazing at it.
And David's reaction at 2:00 is the perfect illustration of that. I think nobody on that panel for a second considered this to be actually true. Which is why the few occasions where it is are so surprising. Like the cracked teapot thing with Victoria.-
Great as Bob Mortimer is, the 'passed down from my father to his father...' 'Backwards in time??' bit is my single all time favourite WILTY moment.
A big give-away was Lee claiming the safe key didn’t fit the safe. So that means there were two keys, not one, that he didn’t know what they were for.
I think the bigger give away was Shaking Steven’s & Howard Jones kicking off because the community bin shed wasn’t locked.

The "old keys" or "skeleton keys" are just normal house keys. All of my house keys have looked like that.
We do have lots of keys like that. Like you said England is a very old place with very old buildings.

A skeleton key, in the traditional meaning, is a key that opens multiple locks. Those old keys you saw are for mortis locks, and they only open one lock. Mort = dead in French, ie deadbolts.
This reminds me of work when I had tool boxes in various locations around a large site . There were many ' inherited ' from retirees and you ended up with a bunch like that .The producers , well aware of Lee's quick witted talents , just thought ' let's see him try to get out of that '.

The keys are regular keys😂😂 people of the UK love traditional businesses, wnd dont necessarily rush for new stuff.
So even a building with a touchscreen biometric door, would have a shed in the back with those old keys

there are maybe no us style outside post boxes with a flag and stuff. There are still post boxes of some sort.
@@Thisandthat8908 I think he means like a pobox thing at the post office. Where you rent or buy, they give you a key, and then your mails are left there. You can drive there on your way home from work and pick up your mail from the letter box etc, before heading home

Tea was first brought to Britain in the early 17th century but it was very expensive so only the rich could buy it. It was usually kept under lock and key.

I have 2 keys that I use in this house for the last 41 years since I bought it. One front door key and 1 Car Key and that IS it..

My parents house have old doors that lock with keys like that. Their house is very old. Please react to Claudia Winkleman. The one you did last time wasn't the funniest clip. There is a long Bob Mortimer style video on CZcams of her as well as the short usual videos.
This goes to the idea that Americans struggle with comedic irony. The fact there is even a debate between truth and lie. OF COURSE IT'S A LIE! That's the joke. EVERYONE on the show knows it's a lie. The fun is watching Lee try to sell it.
