- Jimmy Piersall was a pro baseball player who battled mental health issues publicly, bringing its symptoms and treatment "out of the shadows." He was one of the first, with some level of fame, to do so. His story of perseverance is much more than just a bio of a ballplayer. His mother was often absent. His father had a temper. He signed with the Boston Red Sox at 18 years old and, shortly after, experienced a complete breakdown. But, he returned to baseball and his wife, had nine children, and never lost his 'quirky' personality. Jimmy taught the world that even those with personal struggles... can be All-Stars!
Nailed it as usual Wicky Van!
Great story. As a 'reformed' manic- depressive, after enduring a big 'crash' myself, it is wonderful to see someone overcome this awful condition. I got saved when I was 43 and have enjoyed a great life free from the mind bending effects of this disorder.
I'm very to happy to hear that you are enjoying your life. I bet Jimmy would be proud of you. I'm glad you enjoyed hearing his story.
Yay! Im going to sit on my porch with a cold one and watch this😊
You rock! A cold one is perfect for this one :)
@@wickyvanhistory thats what I thought! I'm just missing a 🌭 😄
Never heard of him as he was way before my time, however, great story and so glad he lived a long life and had many children. Hopefully, they didn't inherit his mental issues.
Thanks for watching the video. I hope so too.
I just want to thank the person who brings these stories to life because the people in these stories are some one else's stories. Oba Judge, Jimmy Piersall these people survived. It helps to see what ever you're going through and you can survive. Bring more stories. Thank you.
I just want to thank you for watching them. I'm glad you are perceiving them just as I do... as stories of empowerment! More stories to come. :)
