This is why Mazda is not a big company. Ford had control over Mazda for about 2 decades. During this time Ford had an incoherent global product line. Mazda was definitely not the focus of its parent company. I think Ford benefited more from this relationship than Mazda did. Mark Fields, the current CEO of Ford was one of many executives appointed to run Mazda in the 1990's and 2000's. Throughout this period, products from Mazda didn't stand out from its Japanese peers. The Mazda brand was also not well managed. It wasn't until the mid-2000's that Mazda began to roll out the Zoom-zoom campaign and their cars began to look sportier. The Mazda 626 sedan, sold as Ford Telstar in certain parts of the world, was an example of the conflict within the Ford Group. As this commercial shows, most people in Taiwan probably didn't know the Telstar was actually a Mazda. Telstar was also a very popular taxi car in Taiwan in the late 80's and early 90's. Also, the Mazda 323 was called Ford Liata(Sounds like Miata right?) and Mazda Tribute(sold in the U.S.) was Ford Escape.
Thx dude, I'm also form Taiwan and realize this issue between ford and Mazda as well. However, to my point of view, there may models sold in Taiwan between Mazda and ford at the same time,so people should had known this fact.
Not many people know the Telstar had Autonomous mode way before Tesla...
