    why don’t you bed the DPC on mortar, you have no bond between the plastic DPC and the course of bricks below, that's not the traditional way, that's how cowboys do it.

    Hi Again , I hope your lad is proud of you the way you are teaching is spot on!! I would be proud to call you my son, My own son works in Jaguar Land Rover in research and development and he went down the apprentership route in garages , AA,RAC breakdown etc Ive put him on to your videos and he told me wow hes a good bricky takes one to know keep the videos coming ,I like the garden wall ones

    Morning mate, hope alls well. Takes me back watching. Served my time with my old man. One of the best things a father can do teaching his son or daughter to earn a good honest living. Hats off to you and the boy.

    In 27 and been on the trowel 11 years since college and honestly mate I would love to work for/with you it would be fascinating. I love your views on brickwork. I’ve been doing nothing but house bashing for the past 11 years so would be nice to get on some nice decorative work and learn from you. Shame your about 70 miles away from me 😂

      Went on site 2 weeks ago to trouble shoot few problems a gang done b4 being kicked off .
      Dnt mind site work mate but prefer what I do ...going to do a video with work comparisons in the next two weeks

      A scape of motor will suffice. He does that because he lays frog up which is the correct way, he then fills frog with muck which in turn provides a key for the dpc to bed to imo

    12:25 Re:damp proof behind furfix,I tend to do this more nowadays coming of existing-my old boss used to make me also cut a chase through the middle of the cavity and install 4”damp folded back on itself to prevent cold bridging,anyone still do this?

      Yeah that’s what we always done .. to be fair when it was good to do still only few done it .
      I like to have conversations with all the different area inspectors as regs change all the time .
      Had a good debate today regarding the 3inch back up block and how it should return ..close cavity or not

      That’s what you should do , and a building inspector would insist on that , it’s not for preventing a cold spot , it’s to prevent damp crossing the wall , this building will have damp in that area

    Not using profiles and being "traditional" is like not using a calculator to do maths. Sure you'll be able to get the same end result, but it'll take you a lot longer to get there. Keep up the good vids!

      I was taught to do the math in the head đŸ§±
      I like to use my head,what I trained for ,build the corner then unwind running in đŸ§±always produces good work , not into all that anxiety rush ,rush ,rush

      @@thetraditionalbricklayer9650 Using profiles doesn't have to mean rush rush rush, you get a better job using profiles. been on the trowel for 43 years and seen so many corners kicking out or running up ever so slightly because they where built the traditional way. And bed the damp on or at least put a smidge under.

      All about opinions me old fruit ..Normally if corners are that bad there built by profile bricklayers đŸ€·â€â™‚ïža lot of guys I’ve worked with know how to build a good corner it’s part of your trade
      Just ones choice to use a profile or not I suppose

      I hate the idea that if you use profiles you can’t build corners. That’s such a narrow minded way of thinking. There’s a time and a place to use profiles and there’s a time and a place to build corners. Just my two pence worth

      Yeah to be fair ,I encourage me lad to watch different styles rather than just learning from me .
      Thing is I’ve glimpse at a few and don’t see much variation or reality đŸ€·â€â™‚ïžhowever I do like the old boy Rob songner watched him a few times ,, only thing is instead of doing sample panels in a garden/garage I’d like to see more actual work ... it’s a lot different repairing a gothic arch in an existing building then it is setting out on a plane slab

      @@brickbybric why does everyone bang on about profiles like it's a new thing they have been around for decades lol there's a time and a place for them I think profiles are great I've used them My whole bricklaying career but I don't use them on everything still build corners and do plenty of freehand work, he is obviously earning enough money not to worry about it and enjoys laying that particular way
