  • The reward of watching a tiny seed grow into a thriving plant is like nothing else! Participants joined us virtually on Saturday, December 5 at 11 AM to learn some of the tricks of the trade when it comes to native plant propagation. With the guidance of Steven Valdez, Lead Nursery Technician at CalBG and Master Gardener, we focused on multiple methods of propagation including seed starting, cuttings, and divisions. Students became familiar with some of the tools and materials we use in the Garden’s nursery and learned what is practical to do at home. We hope everyone walked away feeling inspired to begin starting their very own native plants from scratch!

Hello! Is there a place where I could buy one of those flower crushers with the rubber mat and if so, what is it called?

Hello! Thank you for the info on propagation. I’m trying to find sand suitable for seeds and cutting propagation. I tried to look up the company name you mentioned. I was unable to find a company called “Wolf & Barters”? I may have misunderstood what was said. I have seen silver sand at some big box stores that is called “silver sand” but it only comes in # 20 or # 30 and is very fine. I believe the company name is GILLIBRAND SILVER SAND? I’m not sure how to find the #12 size grain. I’m located out near Joshua Tree. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks again for the videos and sharing your information.
