WHAT HAPPENED To The 2018 NBA Draft?

- The NBA in 2018 was… exciting! There were rising stars in each conference, we were nearing the end of the dominance of the KD era warriors… and a new draft class was coming in that would change EVERYTHING. Multiple all-nba selections ALREADY, multiple all-stars, some MASSIVE trades in the lottery and a few selections that would completely alter the future of multiple organizations… with franchise altering players like Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Jaren Jackson Jr., and more waiting to be selected all throughout the draft…

No matter how good Trae Young turned out, those draft night pant-shorts were criminal.
I forgot about the suit shorts
Absolutely! That’s the reason basketball Gods cursed him for it. He looked like SpongeBob short pants.
This might be the deepest draft of the past decade. Only one top 25 pick out of the league
and the Kings still couldnt get it right.
@@alexnguyen1284Bagley looked like a cant miss prospect imo , not to be taken above Luka but Bagley was nice asl at Duke , that 21/11 with fluidity at 6’11 , the defense was bad but we all knew he had the tools and athleticism to fix it but it jus never clicked for him
@@moneyman4740 a big man that plays center but cant defend even at the collegiate level is pretty much a huge red flag to NOT draft them that high. If he cant defend at the college level, he definitely cant defend at the nba level. Physically he has the all the tools but dude's basketball IQ is pretty low hence his defense is also terrible.
@@moneyman4740sucks that he got drafted to the kings, developed him really horribly. Also bagley is a dude who gets injured.. like a lot. Really unlucky how his career turned up for him, especially in a place thats big-abundant in detroit playing a position he shouldnt be playing
Zhaire smith, Jerome Robinson and chandler Hutchinson are all out of the league, that’s 3
Ayton seems like a weird pick now, but at the time, the media was disrespecting Doncic.
the US media. Here in Europe we were confused to not see him as consensus #1 (although we don't really watch NCAA)
@@matteogualino2216 Ayton had some solid stats in the first few years
🧢@@alexcao9286
They still disrespect him. :(
They still do!
Damn you know a draft is deep asf when players like Brunson, Simons and R.Williams weren't even taken in the lottery
Gary Trent Jr too
Not only that this draft included Luka, SGA, Trae and Mikal, but a lot of good key role players that went to have playoff runs also belong to the 2018 draft class. One player became DPOY: Jaren Jackson Jr., and four players went on to become NBA champions: MPJ, Bruce Brown and even both Kostas and DiVincenzo 😅
The Hornets really traded away SGA for a thug, that’s wild
ratio
Hornets have always fucked up during the draft. As a hornets fan, I die every time the draft happens. Just a quick google and you can see all the potential stars we could of had.
@@gnoix14622023 is the same way. Guaranteed they bumbled it again.
Thug💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@gnoix1462Possibly the best player they could’ve had but didn’t get was Chris Paul in 2005 when they were the Bobcats.
They had the pick right after Paul was taken, and New Orleans actually offered to trade the pick for both of Charlotte’s first rounders in 2005.
The guys Charlotte picked from that draft instead of Chris Paul ended up being Raymond Felton and Shawn May.
Damn, a Devin Booker-Luka Doncic backcourt would have been downright frightening.
The Father - Son duo
That would’ve been the Luka Booker Special right there 🔥💯!
But it gave you a Luka-Booker Rivalry is better.
Booker would be out coz if that happened Luka would be the top dog. They would have to choose who to keep just like what the Mavs did when Dennis Smith Jr was on the Mavs with Luka.
Nah, I bet they'd try to get the other guy off the team asap 😂. Their personalities clash. Book is more of a passive agressive douche and Luka has anger management issues.
I love how he mentioned the fact that Grayson Allen is a bit of a dirty player but didn't mention the fact that Miles Bridges got arrested for domestic violence
hey he did say he wasn't gonna be an all-star, which is very hard to do from behind bars
Kept it off the court like a true professional.
Cause he's black.
😂 so young to do crimes
Ever since luka won euroleague mvp i always believed he was not gonna be a bust in the nba.
I remember looking at a mock before the draft and I’m like who is this Doncic guy? Watched one 8 minute video and I could tell he was special. I’ll never understand how GM’s didn’t see his potential as being worth taking a risk. He proved them all wrong.
The way NBA teams evaluate draft prospects baffles my mind. All they look at is the physical potential. Where is the mental or intangible potential evaluation.
I honestly think this is the best class in the last 10 years, so many all star caliber players
I prefer 2017 class simply because it was sooo damn deep. 2018 is very top-heavy with Doncic and SGA but after another 3-4 all-stars there isn't much potential there for stars. 2017 had Tatum, Spida, Markannen, Bam but then another 10 NBA starter guys
@@mrvk39trae Young?
@@mrvk39WTF? Trae, JJJ, Brunson, MPJ, DiVicenzo, Simons, Mikal and Miles Bridges, Allen they are all at least starters in the league

@@flash3637 Brunson yes, I should mention him. But the rest? Trae is probably the biggest flawed star since Harden and about to be traded because you cannot win with him. the rest? Bridges are ok but not franchise players. Simmons a bust and Allen is ok.
@@mrvk39 Man, the 2018 class was more deep than 2017, i have no doubt about that
What a draft. So deep. A top 5 all time
I would even argue that it’s the best. It’s much better than the legendary 2003 draft and on par or greater than the 1984 draft
@@viciousPandaYTGaming maybe in 3-5 years it will be the greatest draft ever when players got more accolades and stuffs
@@gapos8212 true but I just feel like this draft having 10+ all stars is a lot
In term of depth, this is the greatest draft class of all time.
@@viciousPandaYTGamingyou are insane. It’s 5 years in. The 84 draft produced 4 HOF’ers. Who do you have as a HOF’er in this draft? Luka and maybe Shai?
Not mentioning Miles Bridges missing an entire season and more due to domestic abuse was a choice
I’ve been saying this for a while but this draft will go down in the top 3, it’s crazy deep
Better than 84, 03 and 09? Nah.
@@claytron3000wait until the players are retired. 2018 will be best ever
Jalen Brunson time with ball to turnover ratio is the lowest of all time, he’s gotta be the steal of this draft 🤯
definitely! though SGA at 11 was also a steal considering he is an MVP candidate now
I'll never forgive the Sixers for trading Mikal Bridges on draft night.
Talking about Luka just reminds me of the one dude who talked ad nauseum that Luka was the bust of the decade, a second round guy at best, and that Alonzo Trier was guaranteed to be better. I think it was like Rashad Phillips or something like that
Agreed. This was a super deep draft class.
Continue this series man
Imagine if the Clips still had SGA.
why people like you doesn't understand that sh*t?? i mean he wouldn't be like him today if he stayed in the clippers, they improved coz their the number 1 option like harden when he left okc
Well then they wouldn’t have Leonard or pg
if SGA doesn’t get traded, you don’t get PG which doesn’t get Kawhi to come to LA.
Sga wont develop either. A lot of you forgot how we was mentored by cp3 during those days when they traded wb to rockets for cp3. He develops his mid-range during those days. I think he wouldn't turn great if the trade didnt happen.
@@kellenjohnson77 considering SGA just took his team farther in the postseason and that duo hasn’t been healthy for the playoffs since 2020, I think they’d rather have SGA
With how good the Kings have finally become just imagine if they hit on their pick here
great analysis
and now MPJ and Brucey B are champs❤🎉
Best Draft Class in the last ten years imo. There is so many starter, all star, and all nba type of players in this draft, and 2018 is even under the radar of media back then, the hype is more into Zion 2020 draft class and Ben Simmons 2016 class.
2:49 Luka SlapAss😂
People back then be really comparing Elite collage basketball vs EuroLeague basketball 🤦♂️
Honestly I still think Troy brown and Lonnie walker are going to turn into some very good NBA players
Troy is a beast
The disrespect for Trae Young is so crazy. So you’re telling me that a guy who led the nation in both points and assists in college is not qualified to go top 3? That’s wild man.
Think of it like this...he had gone where it made sense to grow and do his thang! Steph Curry was the most exciting prospect in college shooting the ball. He could've been forked over for Monte Ellis and history would not be the same! Right place and right opportunity equal destiny.
lmao he's 5'11
imagine how disrespectuf it was for luka to go 3rd... Souldve went 1st in all drafts after 2000 except maybe like AD and Bron
Dudes can average 5 points less than him and 5 assists less than him and they’d still pick them over Trae. Trae disrespect gone too far now
He's led the NBA in points and assists in the same season in 2021-2022 and people still didn't care 😂The thing about Trae that no one talks about is he's only 24. He's like a year older than Keegan Murray. Dude has been averaging 27 points and 10 assists since his sophomore year which is just outrageous offensive output. I know he's maybe the worst defender in the league but he's one of the best offensive players easily. His issue is he was just too good too soon. If he was a 20 and 5 guy for say three years and then went up to 23/6 then 25/7 etc then people would be hyping this guy and giving him his flowers. But his second year he got 30 and 9 he's been graded on a prime superstars curve ever since which was always a bit unfair.
Haha I did not expect that at 11:06 😂😂
DeAndre Ayton over a first ballot Hall of famer in Luka, Suns fumbled massively
lol luka is not a hall of famer lmao 😂 not yet at least
@@DaMeaun he is still playing, I meant a future HOF
@@DaMeaunhe is already an hof, roty & 4x all nba 1st team same amount as Curry more than Iverson
Someone once compared Ayton to Kenyon Martin.
Is that accurate?
@@fortynights1513somewhat, i still think k-mart has done more though, he was a key contributor on those nets finals teams
Ive never seen any Kevin Knox clips all I remember about him was his fortnite draft suit😭
Amazing video
As a Cavs fan I was pissed that they picked Sexton instead of MPJ and I still haven’t gotten over it
wouldn't you rather pick SGA than MPJ? I think that was a clear 2nd best pick in the draft. Id also rather pick Jalen Brunson over MPJ, considering how often he is injured
MPJ wouldn’t have done any better infact he might’ve done worse with being pressured to be the best player and his injury history
That year draft class compared to the nfl draft class in 2018 were very similar. Baker-Ayton both decent players, Allen-Luka both amazing players and Shai-Lamar both are also very good.
The stories:😐
The scenes in between:😃
I remember watching Trae in college and eating in-n-out. I was impressed. Wow, time flies. Nostalgia.
It’s crazy how many of these guys played for the Lakers
Bruh this was a good draft class
And now ayton is a blazer. Crazy
The thumbnail speaks for itself lol😂
Can’t wait for
What happened to the 2019 draft? lo
Do you have any Jami Gertz movies?
in 10 years this will be one of the greatest draft class ever
It’s crazy if there were no trades how the nba would look like right now and who knows if certain guys would be stars
Good to say we won the draft with Luka n Brunson
Hearted is low key a solid defender
Brunson at 33 is wild now seeing where he has ended up with the Knicks
its crazy how much of a crap shoot the nba draft is, and yet you somehow managed to have a perfect breakdown of how every players carrer would be after 5 years and be completely right about everything. crazy. a team would be stupid not to hire you as a gm.
I never understood Bagley going 2nd. Yes, he was athletic. But something about him always gave me the 'Bust' feeling. Even before the draft, I thought his hype was unwarranted.
Shout out Lonnie walker balling out for the nets rn off the bench !
Crazy
3:00 music background name? @More Sporting Logically
Great draft
Pretty good Draft
Suns really went for Bradley vs depth 🤣
Mitchell Robinson was born in Pensacola Florida
Drafting Bagley at 2 is a typical dumb Divac move lol
In the words of Urinatingtree 5-6 years ago:
“Vlade Divac is acquiring Vlade Divac clones.”
Tell us you’re a casual without telling us you’re a casual
Truth is, guards NEVER are at the top of their class unless they are unusually tall like Simmons or Magic. They are just too hard to predict. Just think of all the all-time guards besides Magic, none were top-2 picks.
Hot Take: so far 2018 draft class is the modern 1996 draft class
As I watched SGA turn into a star, I got Charlotte trading Kobe vibes all over again. Weird how the two best draft picks in Charlotte NBA history never played for them. Don’t even get started on the move, as we could have had CP3, AD, and Zion.
why does it feel like 2018 was 2 years ago
Anfernee is so cold the blazers got that one right
The outlook by Mavs fans back then was bleak. The coping consensus was "DSJ + Mo Bamba's not that bad"
1996 is considered the best draft class ever and 18 years later in 2018 we have the best class of the modern era
18 years later? U sure chief
The American education system
Please do 2015 cause most of them are in their "Prime." Booker, Roizer, KAT, D'Lo, Montrezl, Porzingis, Turner, Christian Wood, Larry Nance Jr, and many others
I hate college basketball and know even less about euro league basketball and even at the time I never understood why everyone chose anyone other than Luka.
SGA on the Knicks lol
What is with Hornets, and trading future stars (as a current draft picks) to an LA based teams?
Kobe first
Shai second
The next time and LA based wants to trade for a Hornet draft pick, they should think about keeping the pick.
This is the deepest draft ever
people after year 2030 will talk about this draft just like we are talking about the '96 draft :)
What Giannis, Jokics and Lukas draft stories tell us is that NBA teams used to snub international and are paying the price
Not really. You still have the Alex Len, Mario h, dragan benders.
@@LordoftheTHOTs you proved exactly my point. Trying to pigeon hole Luka, giannis and jokic with these chumps. Never mind all star, all nba, they are franchise altering all time best players and 3rd, 15th and 41st respectively tells us a story of European players' stock pre 2020
@@lemonlazer5687 right because you knew Gianni’s and jokic were going to be all stars before they were selected, GTFOH. How does that prove you right? I’m telling you that there have been European prospects picked in the top 5 that haven’t panned out.
@@lemonlazer5687yeah but you act like Giannis and Jokić came in league like luka .there came in the league Bench players and got better with hard work and years of training while Luka came in the league a star
Don’t wanna be that guy but the hawks did draft Luka with the 3rd pick and the mavs picked Trae with the 5th pick then they traded Luka for Trae they traded players not picks
I love MPJ
Ayton can be a greatest big but he didnt want or maybe he scared to dominant in pain
C nowadays are scared to have contact. Generation Z =)
Ever since the suns beef he declined
sexton looks promising still
Yah I actually think he would be great on another team. A two way guard with a lot of hustle and scoring ability. I think he could be a jrue holiday type player for a contender but is wasting away in Utah
Great video. However a missed opportunity to do a redraft and compare with the original draft, would have made the video even more interesting.
Great point!
stacked draft
I think if MPJ had his own team like him as the number one he would be a superstar
Absolutely not. He is a good player to have on your team, nothing more than that.
damn, they really drafted ayton and the other one over doncic
2018 Re-draft: 1 Doncic 2 SGA 3 JJJ 4 Jalen Brunson 5 Young 6 Mikal Bridges 7 Ayton 8 MPJ 9 Simons 10 Huerter 11 Robinson 12 WCJ
Swap ayton and bridges
@@LeGoatJamesOfAll why??? Ayton doesn't seem to want to play basketball... and is far less impactful. Bridges might not be the #1 on a good team but he can be #2 or #3. Ayton cannot even be #3.
Luka 👍💪🇸🇮
Imagine kings got JJJ.
I'm glad Chicago traded Carter to Orlando he has stepped up in the O
Lol the hornets and trading away star guards to LA
I completely forgot about the existence of Jerome Robinson
Dawg this shit is STACKED 😂😂
USA underestimates Euro players so much. I think they underestimate Europeans because they aren't that much athletic and hype enough in USA, a very toxic character
Lol Ayton is on Blazer now
The suns blew it with deandre, they killed his development
I’m the same age as almost all of these players. We’re getting old
The youngest EVER euroleague MVP going 3rd is still so weird to me
This draft is easily the best since 1996, argue with a wall
Is this the best draft class in history?
I get why back then ayton the the 1st pick, I mean he was getting compared to guys like david Robinson
colin sexton could of been better then sga if it wasnt for that injury
Hawks were 1 pick away from Lonnie😢And yes, Lonnie would’ve been a star by now if he was drafted to the Hawks
Bro was drafted by the spurs one if not the best organization in developing players and here you are saying that he could've blossomed in Atlanta 😂
Clippers were stupid for picking Jerome before MPJ, what were they thinking
Lively is what execs thought bagley would be
This edit is a bit unfair to Ayton. He was part of an almost perfect team in Phoenix. Should the front office not have mismanaged their HR they might have been repeated representants of the West in the Finals with CP3, Ayton, Book, Johnson, Bridges and co.
