Well done Mrs McGuiness for speaking out so eloquently. You should not need to explain or defend your reasons to intolerant members of our society. I hope this increases awareness and understanding.

Just because you can't see a disability doesn't mean you don't have one. I have Asperger's myself and I can relate to this.

Disability is not selected on age colour or postal code, for many individuals they're disability is not always visible. However, displaying your disabled badge which is only obtainable through quite a lengthy process of paperwork, and evidence that support your disability.
We're still constantly been attacked by ignorance and morons which can cause a great deal of distress.
I personally believe the blue badge should display a symbol of child or adult.
Thank you Christine for sharing your experience of dealing with morons, as parents with children with disabilities we all have empathy because
we all want to protect our children children.
God bless your beautiful unique family.

I think the general point has been missed. Disable parking bays are very limited, they are made larger for people in wheelchairs. That's why the signs are of a wheelchair. Alot of car drivers are totally disrespectful, couldn't careless and they do need challenging.

I think the ‘wheelchair’ sign is for disabled, not a literal wheels chair.

I think The badge is predominantly for people with mobility issues . I can understand why this man asked ! I know many people with autism who do not need to use disable badge. I am amazed this made the news!! My father had COPD and could not walk far without oxygen. He and many like him need to be able to get as near as possible ,and so many people abuse this parking area. I am really happy that this man spoke up as many don’t. He was not wrong to challenge. I can’t find reason why anyone would be offended. I can see she is emotional but think more people should challenge if they think it’s being abused. However after this reaction and being put on news I am afraid this has done more harm than good!

Wheelchair =handicapped. Disabled is for all people who have invisible, but painful and extremely limiting illnesses.

You’re wrong Robert - they are not made specifically for “larger people in wheelchairs” that’s rubbish. The wheelchair is a universal sign for someone that has a disability. That man was showing his complete ignorance. They had a blue badge too which isn’t specifically for people that are in wheelchairs.

@@juzsnails7128 you've totally missed the point about levels of disability and different needs.

For the limited number of places available, there is no need whatsoever for people with autism to use them. Get a grip.
