  • Thule Approach Roof Top Tent Review - The Most Spacious RTT We Have Used!
    The Thule Approach Tent comes in 3 sizes. We are testing the large version. It is the MOST spacious and easy to set up tent we have used. It can easily handle 3 adults and a kid and/or dogs.
    This tent has really impressed us!

    Thanks for posting mate, great review. I am looking at one of these for my Mazda BT-50. Thule make very good gear so it’s nice to see it actually in a working mode and you giving an honest review. Take care.

      Hey Sam! Thanks for the nice note! I have been impressed with this tent (and other Thule gear) If you do get it, I hope you have MANY wonderful adventures! My wife has a Mazda CX9 and love driving her Zoom Zoom. Such a great build and fun to drive. We just put a Thule box on it as well. Take care!!

    You mentioned you will try it this fall and give an update. Will watch the video if you do update, but curious if you've tried it yet and how it went. Did you get and try the insulation accessory? Wife and I are trying to decide if this one is a good fit for us and if it would do well in colder weather.

      Hey!! Thanks for reaching out. I have had it out several times this fall. So far the lowered temp is 15F. It did better than I thought it would. I think the rain fly adds quite a bit of warmth.
      I will have it in snow here soon too. We had a few dustings, but nothing significant so far. Keep you posted!

    Great video! Just wondering why you are no longer using the FSR Evolution?

      Thank you! We still have that tent. Love it. But this one is a little bigger and provides more room for my wife, dog and I. Plus, we are hoping to have a kid in the future and the extra room will be appreciated!
      I will probably put the FSR tent back on in the middle of winter as think it will be warmer (and it’s just me camping in it)

      You got it! I am heading back out with it for several days this week as well as the Overland Expo. I will have more detailed coverage on it soon (especially once we get some snow!)

    Hmm, going with the Large is considerably wider than the Medium, 55” vs 72”, that extra width would be WAY better. However, I wonder if that would then disqualify a lot of roof racks because they aren’t long enough?? I’m specifically wondering about a Subaru Forester Wilderness?

    Awesome video, got us very excited as we're pulling the trigger on the Large tomorrow. We are a family of 4 and this is perfect. Do you know if this tent is waterproof or how it stacks up to others for water resistance? Subscribed 👍

      Thank you!!! Very much appreciate that. And super stoked for you to pick this tent fir your family!
      There is a rain fly that goes on and did a great job in sone rain storms last weekend. The fly is a little tricky at first, but you can leave it on time after time (you can leave it on and pack the tent up). Hope that helps! Happy camping!!

      @@Engearment that's awesome to hear and thanks for replying. Does have any ropes to Sinch in the sides of the tent before folding it up? I think I saw it on older models to speed up the process when packing up.

    Nice review. How do you load and unload such a heavy tent from the roof to the garage?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Good question! This is a two person job. After we take the mounts off, we pick the tent up, then lower it to a high rack position. Carry it over to the desired location and bring it down to the ground. Fortunately, my other occupation is fitness training and I have an abundance of strong friends :). But seriously, it is about 75lb per person between two people. I have seen people create pully systems in their garages too.

    Thule is not cheap but they make great stuff, We see a lot of Thule rooftop boxes here in Europe.

    Thanks for the video. Can you unzip just 3 sides and let the cover hang on one side, instead of unzipping all four sides and then having to reconnect the zipper?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před měsícem +1

      Hello! I think I know what you are asking. And yes, you can. It is such a fun tent. Going up with it tomorrow night for another camping trip with it. Hope this helps!

    • @birdymeo
      @birdymeo Před měsícem

      @@Engearment thanks for replying. what I meant is the black cover of the tent needs to be unzipped on four side and taken off completely (per the manual). But I was asking if instead of doing that you can just unzip 3 sides and let it hang on the side. That way when you pack the tent after camping you don’t have to line up the zipper and re attach it.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před měsícem +1

      @@birdymeoahhh. I see now. I am actually heading up tonight to camp and I can test your theory out. Usually I keep the black cover under the truck, or tied to the rack and out of the way. But I like your idea. Might be helpful in cinder temps when my hands are frozen. 🥶

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před měsícem +3

      @@birdymeo Yep! I shot a video on it too. It worked totally fine. I left the zippered section in the front attached. It did not come off overnight and made packing up a few moments faster.

    Are you switching from the Freespirit?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Great question. Partially. For spring and summer, I will be using this tent as it is very roomy and is great for my wife and dog too. But in the colder fall and winter camping, I will be going back to the Freespirit as it is smaller and warmer for just me.
