      MotoGP made duel clutch transmissions against the rules years ago; the manufacturers came up with seamless gear boxes as result of the rules.

      I believe Honda had dual clutch on some consumer road bikes years ago, i have no idea how well they worked, or not.

      @@8180634 think it was the africa twin or something, but considering its not popular means its not good hahaha, lets keep it that way, i prefer the clutch the way it is.

      @@8180634 they still have it now on their Africa twin,x-adv,nc750x and their latest Goldwing with the gen 3 dct.. according to reviewers the gearbox works perfectly well. I've rode the x-adv before and personally i like it.. maybe some others don't..

    Kind of makes me wonder how we ever raced superbikes without computers on them.... then I'm reminded of Reg Pridmore... if you were ever lucky enough to attend his riding school and even luckier to have gotten a ride-around on the back of his BMW you'd have gotten a real world demonstration of how this was (expertly) done in the analog days... with the CLUTCH LEVER and some skills.

    Wow Sylvain, so that explains perfectly fully to me that MotoGP is in a league, a class of it's own, with riders that might not actually be mere humans after all. I'm just getting to grips with my basic upshift only factory Quickshift on my 2014 Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC. The bike you raced like a demon back in the day - or the super human you must be!👍🏻I'm not even a Suzuki fan but I've subscribed here!

    Very clear and sensible explanation, thank you! I always wondered why we aren't seeing seamless gearbox technology on the open market. Even though the production bikes are less powerful, I think every rider can benefit from a smoother gear shifting experience. I hope the manufacturers will develop some more robust models soon... they would definitely sell more bikes that way ;-)

      Maybe is still too expensive and complicated to be mass produced, but as street bike power level keep increasing my bet is we will see this on flagship superbike first.

      My understanding is the same - Seamless Shift Gearboxes are beyond Swiss Watch Levels of Precision and Complexity,it would be way too expensive to put them on standard Road Bikes.

      They are costing motogp teams 650.000€ per gearbox.. It's 3x the cost of an engine... So yeah, a long way from production bikes

    Fascinating. That system was developed on cars in the 20's? I know it was never adopted because it was expensive and complex then. Seems like it was the delahaye that used it.

    Loved the explanation, as always Sylvain! I did think that the fact that neutral is below 1st gear instead of between 1st and 2nd, would be the biggest gain (no more false neutrals)...but your explanation makes a ton of sense.

      VState60 neutral below 1st? When is that applied on a race bike? Genuine question?
      And “false neutrals” are situated between gears where there isn’t meant to be a neutral eg 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, or going down those gears. Caused by either poor gearbox design, wear/damage, or rider error.
      An example would be the rider is in 2nd, clicks up on the lever, which disengages the 2nd driven gear, but due to any of the above reasons, 3rd gear does not engage into its drive position and still spins freely on its shaft, creating a “false neutral” between 2nd and 3rd.

      They run Reverse-Shift so from the Top Down you have N-1-2-3-4-5-6.

    I first noticed this because the audible difference of downshifting on a MotoGP bike vs. WSBK or other sport bike. The autoblip feature + seamless transmission seems to have a very hard-to-notice separation between shifts, almost creating a downshift all at once, even if it’s several gears being dropped.

    Question - what about the MotoGP clutches with seamless gearboxes? Are they still quite similar to road bikes? I'm guessing back-torque limiting, etc.

    Quick question, on the red gsxr you have pictured in the beginning, I've noticed how high your foot pegs are, they look at least 6" higher than everything I've ever seen, what is the benefit of this or reasoning? I also could be crazy

    New Goldwing 1800 DCT have the smoothest gearbox as a production bike on the market. It is like driving the scooter with Vario and dry clutch at the back
