- The Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon is a perfect example of how estate cars or station wagons as they are called in the United States, are a much better option than SUVs in every single category except off-road.
In this video, I will talk about my 2010 Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon 1.9 JTDm with the 6 speed manual M32 transmission, and compare its characteristics to those of the SUVs that dominate the market.

I have the 2.0 jtdm with 170bhp Ti sportwagon 2011 . Love it, great car . Leather, alcantara , heated seats, all the extras . 19 inch wheels etc . Beautiful rare gem. I'll never sell it.
going to buy same car next week 😍
A SW is always better than an SUV

Axel, que es argentino 😂😂
💪🏻
As of yesterday, I have a 2.4 JTD TI Sportwagon. Been looking for one for such a long time (a TBI would have been great too, but rare where I live) Can't stop staring at it, they just nailed it with their styling. Just perfect from every angle! I've driven it only a few Ks, but it drives beautifully and the 2.4 pulls like a train. It's replacing my Merc W124 E320 wagon, also a very nice car, but a rustbucket unfortunately. I spent a long time deciding whether to repair or replace. Replace it is, and the Alfa was always going to be the replacement. Looking forward to getting to know it!
the 159 is just so timeless and surprisingly reliable. my 2.2 JTS is well over a quarter million km's, and it still purrs like new!
As a yank I cannot tell you how bad I want one of these. It’s genuinely one of the most attractive automotive designs I’ve ever seen.
You can own these cars just for their beauty. I have the 5 cylinder diesel Ti sedan. Very pretty. But I have always thought the wagon was even prettier. Especially in Ti trim. Thanks for the video.
This video is perfect. I managed convincing my girlfriend that we should travel in a station and sleep in it. I just hadn't sold the 159 just yet, now that she's seen you laying down all comfortably, she's on on board.
I know exactly who you are, you are that guy who did the thing back in the day!
Bien Lucas! Felicidades por el nuevo canal! Éxitos!
Great review and solid channel! Subscribed watching this.
Have a 159 myself. 2011 2.0 JTDm Ti with the Cognac interior and Rosso Alfa combo. Love the car to bits, but wish I had the 2.4 JTDm/1750 TBi instead.
Handles like a dream, economical, and I just love it.
Thank you very much and welcome to the channel!
Believe me my friend the 2.0 jtdm is the best engine out of the diesel engines .
@@leostreat3573 really - I really fancy the 5cyl unit? Can you say more please
I would also like the 1750 of course, but of all the other engines the 1.9 is superb. Indestructible, economical, you use it at every revs
Since this is my first comment on this channel, I also subscribe to it. Good luck!
Thank you and welcome!
alfa romeo 159 sw is one of the best sw of all time. at least in my opinion. I own one from 2008 and i will never sell it. It was very reliable over time😊
Me, too 😊
I bought brand new in 2007; great quality car: it's still like new.
My son wasn't born yet and today I'm pleased that he is even more passionate about this Alfa than I am
Good points. Yes Alfa Romeo make great reliable cars and yes SUV’s generally are a poor option.
In Aus I drive a Ford Falcon wagon - 4L six cyl, and yr comments sync with mine, especially fuel consumption. Cruising at 100k I get 7.5-8 Litres/100km. Brilliant!
Had a 1.9 Jtdm and it had it's gearbox repaired after 60 000km. It was upgraded with a more heavy duty bearing. So when we sold it it had past 150 000km . The best 159 is the 2.4 Jtdm. Better engine then the 1.9 and the gearbox is bullet proof. It can handle the torque .
Well, given that it's a wonderful car, I think it was better the 1.9. Indestructible engine and more economical than the 2.4
another thing worth mentioning is that the sportwagon has better acceleration than the sedan and its only 5kg heavier according to most spec websites at least, i got a 08 159 sportwagon with the 150hp 1.9jtdm engine aswell and its got 336,000km and still drives like a dream
Well alright! 👌 is it your gear box manual or automatic? Please tell me about the comum issues (problems) on the jdm engines. 🙏🏽 I'm looking on one with the automatic gear box from 2008. Cheers from Portugal! ✌️🇵🇹🇲🇿😎👌
@@emidiojoao9333Hi, my one is manual, I bought in 2007 and the onlt problem was the alternator, that was a Denso and it was a common source of problems.
For the rest I don't remember any other problems
@@studiocalder818 Thank you for your answer sir! 🙏🏽 Cheers!✌️🇵🇹🇲🇿😎
@@emidiojoao9333 Let us know if you buy one in the end
great choice bro. I got a Q4 3.2 myself
Thank you man! The Q4s with the V6s are fantastic cars
Is it realiable
@@marlonbaird6070 depands on what u compare to. I find it good enough.
Encima hablas inglés con fluidez! Sos muy capo.
Thank you very much!
Such a tempting proposition these cars. But between an E39 BMW 525i m sport, Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 Busso and Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon, I'm already overloaded on cars. I love my 156 Sportwagon JTS in alfa red with tan interior and the manual transmission. But between the absolutely cooked paint and broken AC it makes more sense to buy a 159 sportswagon instead of restoring the 156. Ah well. Have to fob off an 01 MB S320 before I can do anything else.
How is the shifter feel like? I heard people complain about the shifter feel in Alfas. I am torn between going for it or 4th gen Subaru Legacy estate.
Both look nice, but 159 styling inside and out is just gorgeous.
To be honest, it's not the best shifter I've ever driven but it's more than decent. If the average shifter is a 5/10, this would be a 6/10.
lovely cars, mines in the UK
Original choice up there, I guess!

Thank you, SlutHunter_42 😂
Agree with every word...
Nice car man
One thing you didn't mention is that as far as I know- all facelift models are equipped with EQ2 system, regardless of their engine, making the car a bit more enjoyable to drive. Also I wanna ask how tall are you, because I've never assumed the boot of Sportswagon could be this spacious :D
I’m 1.83m tall
@@abriatus Damn, I'm 1.70 and I think I'll be able to fully stretch out my legs and make this car my new home xaxa
i am so mad as an american that i cannot own one of these. they look downright menacing in black. i can get a 156 but it doesnt have near the presence..ack.
Great! Man of good taste 😊.
I saw some American ads offering Alfa 159, I don't remember which areas.
I own one one since 2007 and it's still perfect.
He sounds like Doug DeMuro hahah
You can't say an estate is more practical than an suv, you can't say you can sleep in an estate coz u can more comfortably in an sun bit estate do drive better and look better!
How can you compare this model to an RS6?!
Well, they're both station wagons hahaha
Also eins möchte ich sagen, ein Audi RS6 ist vielleicht ein schön anzusehender Kombi, aber die Dynamik und vor allem den Individualismus den ein 159 SW inne hält ist nicht zu toppen!
These are two catcheye, the Alfa is more original and more amateurish
Where are u from dude?
Hi! Welcome to the channel. I’m from Argentina, but I’ve been living in Spain for the past year
@@abriatus great English - and welcome to the benefits of the estate world. I've even used mine to drive to the airport the night before - sleep in the back then now worries about being late for the flight ,, WIN - WIN
I like it, but I think sedan looks much better, you just have to put some rails on it to get the capacity back
but you still can't sleep in it . I've always run estates bc Why Not - just so useful - and I believe slightly more aerodynamic
@@CosmicSeeker69 i think you can, seats fold the same way. I don't know about aerodynamics, but estate is 100kg heavier for some reason
