What a game. The ending gave me chills.
Ending was so so good. But at the same time, every ending from the Yakuza franchise is great. (Except 3 and Kenzan.)

I really enjoyed this game and would love to see more spinoff stories set in Kamuroucho not directly tied into Yakuza main series.

Just recently started playing it after so many years and avoided every spoiler. Now, I am gonna watch this intro everytime I launch the game like it's a TV series.

@@Ultraioooo I liked Yakuza like a dragon. But you gotta know what you’re getting into. It’s a turn based game unlike the other yakuza games. If that sounds appealing, then definitely give it a shot. If not, you’ll still enjoy the story but just be ready for that kind of gameplay.

I played this game during a tough time in my life. This song brings up a lot of good and bad memories for me, and I don't mind at all :)

Anyone else feel that Judgment and now Y7/LaD just feels better written in the sense that friends and such are more of a focus like how Yagami has his bro and the law firm, while Ichiban has his party members. Basically more of a friendship element on both
Absolutely. I'd say JE and Y7 have the best casts of characters in the whole franchise
Yeah but the first 7 yakuza games were more about one person's struggles as a part of the yakuza life and the pointless effort to leave that life behind since it always finds you and drags you back in. Judgment and like a dragon are more focused on multiple characters that are a part of a larger narrative. It's just a different way of storytelling

Finally finished it. Wow. From someone who has played every canon Yakuza game up to 6, this made me excited for the future of Ryu Ga Gotoku studios. Amazing.

While Hamura here shows clear malicious intent and the music tone is the same, making the audience think Hamura is a true villain, Kuroiwa shows a calm and collected face and the music beat changes to happy and upbeat. It's quite genius of the devs to do that, since it hides how much of a monster Kuroiwa really is

@@SonnyFRST his actor was recast after the original actor, Pierre Taki, was arrested for drug possession. Japan takes that stuff very seriously and will wipe your career off the map if you get in any trouble. Sad to say we'll never see him in anything again

Just started this game. This is my first game in the Yakuza franchise and in just the first few minutes I instantly like it so far.

Well, it started my addiction. 😅 Had some time before lost judgment came out, so I thought I could try out Yakuza 0, as Judgment is a spin-off (which I did not know when I bought it). It turned my world upside down in the best way possible.

I think that Lost Judgment's opening suits the game better than pretty much any other game opening i know. The lyrics are very important though, so if you don't speak Japanese very well, you have to look at a translation.

When you know the words to this song it makes it all the more beautiful. It's about being real and not faking smiles and laughing just to please the world and about being who you are instead of what people want you to be and for you to fit in. Theres a line in the song that talks about being part of a pack but then breaking away and realizing you're alone but at the same time you know you're better off because YOU are real and true to yourself while the pack you left are full of fake people that act like the world wants them to

mbrosatellite I wish we could get the version with him. His face and voice fit Hamuras character so amazingly well. RNG did a very impressive job creating the new model for Hamura, especially not being a scanned face. The speed in which new dialogue was recorded and the model was created and placed is awe inspiring. Especially as none on the team wanted Taki replaced in any way.

Just finished this game, one of the best games I've played in the last 5 years. This intro pulled me in hard and the lyrics made me shed a tear! RGG you earned my money!

One of the best opening song for me, just finish the game and now playing Lost Judgment. I'm a fan of true crime documentaries and this game are amazing story telling about crimes. If you are a fan of true crime like me you going to love this game.

Ah yes, the Rated M version of Ace Attorney.
More so than Dual Destinies.
I actually figured out the main antagonist pretty early in the game cause I went back to watch this intro.
While it made sense why some people appeared in the intro, I was kinda wondering what was Kuroiwa’s importance in the story, instead of Shono or any other doctor he appeared. Also Since he was a legit detective working for the police and Tak was freelance I thought they’d make a great foil for each other, and thought he’d be great rival for Tak, as both competed to find the mole but he just appeared and taunted Tak. So I thought he had to be the mole since he really didn’t have much importance in the story so far besides being an asshole.
I knew from the beggining that it was Kuroiwa for spoiler reasons, but the game does a pretty cool foreshadow.
You know the Black Raincoat? It's the outfit of the mole, and black in japanese means Kuro, and so, it's the first 4 letters of Kuroiwa name.
He's also the last one to be revealed. The intro kinda ruins the mystery there's so many damn hints and ur never given a chance to actually figure it out, just being straight up told who it is
It's safe to say that antagonistic character modelled after an actor is going to be a major antagonist in a Yakuza game.

I love that shot when Kaito throws the cigarette and becomes smoke himself it was badass
One thing that gets to me is that
Ayabe and Genda are the only two not turning to dust in this opening.
What does it meant to symbolize?
If you finished the game, you know its clearly not death. Its not about Yagami's past aince Genda is an important character in that regard.
Maybe its "hiding secrets" because Genda dosent hide anything from Yagami, and Ayabe is very truthfull at least to us in the game.
But still, no idea. Thoughts?
Genda blows out the smoke - just like he talks out his thoughts and guilt. He does not hold back. Ayabe neither, he's a surprisingly honest guy and also it just didn't fit with the direction if he would dissolve because the camera angle, his behavior and the switch to Kuroiwa bears significance. Every other character has some repressed emotion and guilt that they carry within them and maybe that is why they fall apart. It's also important I think that each character dissolves after showing something of themselves: Kaito is hostile to the camera (he was expelled and he has his yakuza past only, hence he'd struggle with rootlessnes, would not be for Yagami) while Mafuyu is open and kind (her attachment to Tak is an important part of her personal story), Hamura is menacing (and in the meantime he knows that he's just a puppet) and Tak is lost in his thoughts, then he shows a glimpse of determination (his whole past eats him up inside). The only exception is Kuroiwa who just walks away like he thinks about business and you cannot get a read of him.
It reminds me a bit of Ace Attorney's Magatama system (and this game refers AA series a few times): whoever holds a secret, they bear a lock on their heart. In the AA game there are two kinds of locks: red ones and black ones. Red ones can be opened up with right options, but black ones hide deep, dark secrets that the bearer may not even be aware of or not may be ready to face it. Kuroiwa's presentation reminds me of those black locks.
And, if we stick to the smoke = something eats them up inside theory, it's interesting that at the beginning Tak arrives from the smoke: he rebuilt himself to become the Tak we know in the game after the events of his last trial.
These are my thoughts, not satisfied with them, but this is the most I was able to gather. :)

Came to this intro after hearing the new one. I prefer this, it fits so well with the somber type atmosphere in the game.

I played this game earlier this year in around June-July when it was on a discount trying to find new games to play. So glad I found this game, truly a masterpiece. I went through it without doing the side missions though so I’m going to play it again fully this time before I play the next one in the series.

Yeah, though i've yet to say that i prefer AA stay the way it is. If they would go full 3D Models and realistic graphics it would feel alien to me and wouldn't do AA any justice. Though i'd like to see yakuza spin-offs like this more often.
