- Thought you'd seen every Simpson's cocktail on this channel? Enter the "lawn mower" from Season 10, Homer's masterful concoction of wheatgrass and vodka that rivals only Skittlebraü for genius two ingredient drinks. As you can expect, it's pretty terrible. But can I make a version that's actually good?

Any more Simpsons cocktails out there?

You're missing the "Future Homer"
How about Abe Simpson’s Irish drink?
Red tick beer. Hmm, needs more dog.
More had one called a "lobstertini" where he mixed vodka, gin, vermouth and lobster juice into a martini glass, and garnished with lobster claws. I'd hate for you to drink it, but it would look spectacular if you actually made it.
"And we're just making your standard wheatgrass simple syrup"
*ah yes, the standard*
I assumed he used wheatgrass juice as was the fashion at the time.
They didn't have lemongrass, because of the war
So I tied wheatgrass to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say...
I legit thought thought you were going to use green chartreuse
How can I enjoy this drink? There's no chartreuse
That reminds me, I’m out of lemon shaped rocks right now.
a polish Vodka has Bison Grass inside the bottle called Żubrówka.
Never drink apple juice without it.
@@CombustibleKitttens 😱🤣😂🤣😂 I cannot see apple juice and vodka being a good combination ever... Cider works good but apple juice itself is a freaking terrible mixer.
@@iLikeCoffee777 Apple juice and Medical Ethanol, aka: The Dr.'s orders
@@iLikeCoffee777 in the UK, cider is alcoholic, but apple juice is literally that: the juice of an apple - it makes an excellent mixer, especially with Żubrówka which has a sort of cinnamon-y hint - we heard it referred to as a "frisky bison" in Kraków, where they rim the glass with sugar/cinnamon powder - it is outstanding..
"If it's clear and yella, you've got juice there, fella. If it's tangy and brown, you're in cider town" - this Flanders quote never made sense to me here on the UK, because cider is a hugely popular alcoholic drink that you can get by the pint in a pub, juice is just juice 😁
I actually don't know if Zubrowka can make it into the states. At first i thought he was gonna use that. But, i don't know if they FDA let's it through. My country has it but, my countries FDA is much more lax.
Now do a clarified milk punch version of it.
Love the Simpson’s ones

Ok so I've actually had wheatgrass based beverages (all soft) and I actually enjoyed the taste. The trick is to blend it with lemon juice, then pass it through a square of muslin or a fine sieve. It makes this wonderfully vegetal bright green juice.
You gotta stop saying actually.
@@mkultra2456 you gotta stop being an ass
There is actually a spirit called Żubrówka ("Zhubrovka"), which is vodka infused with bison grass. It's really popular in Poland.
You can serve it over vanilla ice cream, or mix it with apple juice to make a "Polish Kiss" (or "tatanka" -- "apple cake"-- as the Poles call it), or mix it with blackcurrant juice to make a "Black Bison".
Or just drink it straight, I find it delicous
"This looks pretty healthy, let's FIX THAT with some VODKA."
1:59 Reminds me of Bison Grass Vodka. The first sip is pretty interesting, after that it gets worse and worse.
Are there any more cocktails from archer that are worth showing or improving upon?
I believe archer mentioned needing to get more Tom for his Collins during the archer vice episodes. Maybe a Tom Collins made with old Tom gin?
In a podcast I listen to they recently made a hay syrup. Not sure what hay they used but apparently it worked well with strawberries. The same guy also made a syrup with aged cheese, fantastic podcast really.
You say "Common wheatgrass simple syrup" like you've made wheatgrass simple syrup a hundred times
this spring i started experimenting around with different kind of garden stuff.
my favourite was some interpretation of the bees knees with dandelion sirup (we call it dandelion honey in germany).
was pretty nice
a brewery in italy called baladin makes a hay tonic that uses the grass that they cut from around their property, this made me think of that!
You haven't done a single plum floating in perfume served in a man's hat
Ladies and Gentlemen, that was the origin of the "California Garden". Seriously you created a new drink here, now name it.
Well since it's a spin on an existing drink template, the name should be the Improved Lawn Mower
@@Rockzilla1122 The Riding Lawn Mower
@@Rockzilla1122 I would contest that by saying that since the original drink was just Vodka with Wheatgrass powder added to it that by making a Wheatgrass syrup and the addition of the Pepper Vodka and Lemon makes it an entirely different drink. I mean at what point is two different drinks "Two different drinks" if adding both techniques and ingredients to it's make up keeps it the same drink? Is a Vesper and a Martini the same drink?
was just watching this the other day, love this spin on that sickly green concoction i could only think of
I like the idea of a grass taste/flavour in a drink, much like lavender.
I had a wheatgrass bloody mary in LA a few years ago actually. Bartender used a small amount simple syrup and was really good, like an umami flavor. The grass wasnt infused in the S. syrup though, the drink had about 5-6 wheatgrass jelly drops or something but they melt in your mouth. It mixed well with everything.
Looks great! Did you consider Bison Grass vokda for this? That seems like a decent substitute
He drank this like a champ
I like the way you think. If it begins to look healthy, add vodka!!!!!
It might have been interesting to see what effect a vodka extraction on the wheatgrass would have had on the final drink. Kind of like how vodka is used with tomato sauce to make vodka sauce.
You know I'd love to try this cocktail!
Wheatgrass oxidizes with heat and light. It makes it solidly gross. You can juice the fresh Wheatgrass with a mascerating juicer, add fresh lemon to the juice to slow the oxidation, and then mix from there. I make a brunch cocktail that has been lovingly named the "lawn shaving latte" with Uncle Val botanical gin, Wheatgrass and lemon juice, Edinburgh ginger and rhubarb liqueur, and a scant barspoon of carrot eau de vie. Pretty tasty.
There's Grandpa Simpson's "remedy", but I recall it having no labeled ingredients. There's also the plum hat perfume drink, but idk how you'll pull that one off. Maybe a plum vodka or fruit brandy with a simple syrup of a pungent but safe perfume. The hat, idk.
So is the length of the video 4:20 just a coincendence while talking bout green grass?
There is a grass vodka made by Zubrowka, mixing with Apple or other fruit juices is common.
I’ve always believed that a shot of Jeppson’s Malört encompasses the spirit of Homer’s Lawnmower.
I so expected bison grass Żubrówka to be used in the improved version. It tastes like grass even without the syrup 🤣
I'd try putting in some pureed Gooseberries and maybe some walnut, as that would make it more like my parents' lawn.
As someone else mentioned I thought you would have used green chartreuse in addition to the wheat grass also a very herbal Jen might accompany the wheat grass as well.
Also to punch up that front lawn flavor maybe some wildflower honey as a sweetener instead of regular cane sugar
I wouldn't write off the rum and zinc. I mean, without zinc, we wouldn't have telephones, car batteries, or hand guns.
Great episode as always!
I know the "recipe" calls for vodka, but I was kinda hoping you'd try rhum agricole in the improved version. Also, "there's a lemon behind that rock" might be my favorite line from the whole series.
Was expecting Zubrowka. Amazing grass flavored polish vodka
I was hoping to see fresh extracted wheatgrass juice used instead of powdered. A possible good combo could be: 1 ounce fresh wheatgrass juice, 1 ounce simple syrup, 1.5 ounces vodka, and 0.5 ounce fresh lemon juice. I also like the idea of using zubrowka for the vodka as others have commented.
Oh man, know im gonna comb for simpson episodes that mention any drink and post them here so you can make em!
Perhaps not the place to ask, but this video seems fitting. In certain pipe tobaccos there’s a flavor similar to the smell of straw, or dried grasses. It’s a very pleasant aroma, perhaps that flavor could fit in a cocktail.
First Wolfgang Puck in Chefs Support and now Nick. Pretty nice day.
I actually really like Grass vodka, very earthy and herbal. Put it in a Moscow Mule makes a Grazing Bison. It also goes pretty well mixed with apple juice on ice.
It's been forever since I've had a good Rum and Zinc.
If you're trying to taste a lawnmower, what about a mezcal with that wheatgrass to get those diesel notes
My local fancy-drink-in-a-Mason-jar place has a drink called the lawnmower :
Absolut Peach Vodka, Triple Sec, lemonade, pear nectar, cucumber, mint, basil, agave syrup and strawberry puree, blended with ice as a slushie. It's delicious.
Hey, in the episode of The Archer named "tango for three" it seems that archer make a drink with mate and other things, can you make that drink?
I honestly think that using Gin instead of Vodka would greatly improve the cocktail. I can see the Barrister Russian gin working really well with this. Maybe even Gin Mare.
Did you consider using Sotol to try and get a more grassy flavor? I think doing a 50/50 split with the vodka could be interesting a get a more complex cocktail while still staying true to the original concept
Oh man, I've been hoping that you would get to this Simpson's cocktail for some time now.
Fuck my life, now I want to try the second one. You, Sir, are amazing.
I once made a wheat grass soda.
I bought that glass, two for 0.50 each, from a for charity shop.
Thanks for this Pop video culture.
As someone who's' grey matter coverts gluten to a morphine-esque substance, the gluten-free nature of wheatgrass was a surprise; it did not enrich my life. I assume matcha would improve on wheatgrass, or fresh chives.
Nick this is really interesting, You could have tried a milk based vodka to go with it.
I’m still laughing at your face after the second sip of the first drink!!!!!!!!!! OmG
If you're making the rum and zinc and need to balance out the metallic flavor of the zinc, use salt. Salt diminishes metallic taste.
Was expecting zubrowka since it’s flavored with bison grass. Got the vodka part right!
oo that would have been interesting
if you’re mixing vodka with grass then how about using zubrowka which is already mixed with bison grass? Or use bison grass
A brave effort
Wheat grass through a slow juicer would probably be even better
i actually think this sounds genuinely great and i love the recipe! definitely one i'd like to try at home, i'm a fan of that vegetal taste in a cocktail
but if it was me, i'd have used Zubrowka Bison Grass vodka to make it extra... well... grassy :-)
Could use bison grass vodka in this for more grass flavour
You could make your own version of Duff beer
Can you recreate Shaun Mondavi Vineyard’s reddish style wine drink from SNL?
Ok but I’m living for the “rum and zinc”
Try just juicing the grass - it's actually quite good on it's own. It's sweet, earthy and floral.
If it's good with vodka, I dunno - but could imagine that it would be.
Will you make ether the bonk drink or the scrumpy from tf2?
Ron Howard: Homer we’re out of vodka!
Not wheat grass but a local taco place does a cilantro margarita that is delicious
The recipe link in the description doesn’t seem to lead to the right page?
Where's the bowl of cloves, frozen pie crust, and Tom Collins mix?
Finally a proper glas!! 👀👍🏼
Ehhh....
Rather than a nuetral vodka, i would have opted for grey goose.
Grey Goose specifically has a grass-like taste added to it, but i can understand if this offends vodka purests (it's specifically called for in the drink tho...).
After that, I'd have gone with Sorghum molasses for my sugar syrup. Sorghum is pretty grass like, but it still has a malty flavor to it.
Keeping everything green, I'd have probably gone with lime peel and lime juice for the sour part of the drink, and maybe some of that wheat grass juice as a type of bitter.
Also as a horrible aside, there's a grass jelly drink that might work equally well in this mixer. it's got a mild mint flavor, and is bright green. it's not good though.
Another great green chile vodka is Teller Vodka.
I actually got a shil lawnmower advert for this video aswell
Chlorophyll actually increases the oxygen level in your cells. It is very good for the immune system. Spiralena, chlorella (best), and wheatgrass are all good for this. It’s very motivational for becoming a lush! 😉 - Love the video as always! ❤️👍🏻
Do Rum and Zinc.
Anyways so I used to make these. But I would take fresh wheatgrass squeeze juice and good vodka. 2to1 Some times i wound have it with a slice of lemon or lime.
Have you heard of bison grass vodka? That might have been good for this
Grazovka
I wonder how it would taste with Żubrówka for the vodka brand.
I got a lawn mower ad 😂
I got an ad for a lawnmower before this video...
i should have been sponsored by Black+Decker or something
"We are just making your standard Wheatgrass simple syrup" - that the some words that have never been put together in that order before, and there is nothing standard about it
Hey man, I love the show... I'm wondering how you would formulate a Nuka-Cola from the Fallout series...
How long does it take to make simple syrup?I heard that it should sit a month or two before using it, but i'm not sure if that's true. Just curious.
you can use it right away
@@CocktailChemistry Oh thank you I guess I was misinformed.
I use to work at Jamba Juice MANY years ago and we had fresh wheat grass shots. ITS GROSS! It was like a right of passage working there, is to take a shot haha.
I love those shots. They are so gross but almost good?
Homer is an effing genius
Next, ......mud flavour, ash flavour
I have a sweetened vodka that has cucumber, lemongrass, and a little honey. I like it
Does fresh grass juice taste any better?
Dude from Cigarettes After Sex sure knows how to mix a drink
It seems like you almost made an aviation there
Why use water to extract flavor from the wheat grass? Why not use it to directly infuse the vodka?
Honey and wheatgrass do well together as well.
Now, build le gril!
Can you try the Mexican Space Program? From Mike and Molly
Maybe a wheatgrass infused vodka?
Why not pickle the wheat grass and then use the pickling in the cocktail?
I definitely made this one before.
So when are you making the "Future Homer"
