  • Rolls are crucial to parkour training. They reduce impact when landing and falling, and can be used to traverse distance or navigate obstacles. But rolling on hard surfaces can hurt if you do it wrong. In this video, Brandee will help you perfect your technique for forward, backward, and side rolls.
This is the 9th in our series of 15 videos covering all the basic parkour techniques. Brandee Laird has been studying parkour teaching methodology for over a decade. Brandee's detailed teaching style benefits beginners, coaches, and long-time practitioners alike.

There are so many safety roll videos out there, but this is the first one I've seen that starts with the exit and works backwards! So clever. Also seriously appreciating the exercises that you can do to get yourself used to each of the different components. Thank you!

That chalk move was genius. So helpful.

Brilliant! I've been doing Parkour for over a year, and up until now I've not trained on the roll. The reason? I am a senior citizen, and I could never figure out how to do the first part of movement without hurting my shoulders, where I have already been experiencing range of motion issues. I watched this tutorial, and immediately started working on THE SECOND HALF. Rolling onto my feet, and getting up. Piece of cake. This actually gives me more confidence in approaching the first half. I'll start on that tomorrow. Thank you!

Thanks! I’m hoping it’s helpful for students and coaches alike! Not sure about the “ultimate” part, haha. There are a few good tutorials if one knows where to look.

I did a role on concrete for the first time in over 5 years, bad form and hurt like hell. I guess better than falling on my face.

Absolutely better than falling on your face! To get it down again, consistency is key-and don’t be afraid to jump back and forth in progressions to perfect every phase :)
