Bobby Firmino allowed us to penetrate around the 18yd box, his ability to link the midfield and the two wide forwards is missed sorely now. With this front 3 we lose possession too much around the 18yd box and that is where i would like to see Gakpo really stake his claim, I believe he has that ability if he can make that position his own

Grav v Brighton, scores instead of missing a sitter - 2 extra points. Diaz v City scores instead of missing a sitter - 2 extra points, City 0 points. Nunez v Utd, scores instead of missing a sitter - 2 extra points. Jones v Palace scores instead of missing a sitter - probably 3 extra points. Easy to state this, but not much wrong with setups and systems, just need players to be composed in front of goal. If they can't do it then replace them.

Everyone calls Quansah our mini Van Dijk, but when you actually look at his style of play, he reminds me so much of Matip!
Class defending, great duel winner and the way he plays the ball and sometimes makes that progressive carry like Matip did. There’s just so many similarities.
I always loved Matip for those random runs where he goes on to dribble like 5 players and goes from our half to their box. I feel like Quansah has that ability aswell, he’s done it a few times already but he’s careful with it and it feels more calculated and less risky when he does it.
That combined with Virgil’s and Ibou’s pace and the ability to defend the wide areas like Ibou. I believe Quansah can become one of the best and we’ll have 10+ wonderful years with him!

Isn't the defender's that are the issue. It's the system Klopp makes them play. If we played a system where we sat deep and played on the counter, the defenders would look phenomenal. Our issue is that the press we play NEEDS players up top who don't lose the ball. With Nunez, Salah, and Diaz playing, we lose the ball way too much, and because the whole team is so high, we have to defend while running backwards. No defender in the world would look good being exposed to that system. It's why any RB in our team looks stupid. They're exposed massively because of where Jurgen wants them to play.
That 3 forwards are nowhere near technical enough to play that system, and it's been proven.
Just look at the difference when we have players that can actually keep the ball in tight spaces (Elliott, Gakpo, Macca, and Trent), we pass around teams and don't turn over the ball leaving the defence so vulnerable.
Why do you think City and Arsenal are so much more controlled? They have players like Odegaard, jorginho, Havertz, Saka, and rice. Or KDB, Rodri, Foden, Silva. Smart, technical players who don't lose the ball stupidly like Nunez, Salah, or Diaz do consistently. That's the reason our defence is so exposed. Nothing to do with the personnel, everything to do with Klopps make or break tactics. He's never learned to shut up shop.
Villa by example. We controlled the game well, off come Elliott and Gakpo.... then do you think it's a coincidence that we were countered on every couple of minutes with Nunez and Szobo coming on? It's plain as day what the problem is.

The lack of creative flair and individualism in the final third is something I want to see addressed. Diaz does it but nowhere near the level he should be. Mo’s dribble numbers have falling off a cliff. We have become predictable. I hope slot doesn’t abandon his ask from wide forwards. Beat your man and create structural problems for defenders. Get them doubling up on wide players to create space centrally

That’s why a player like Bakayoko would be ideal imo. Similar to Doku but more effective and direct in the final third/in front of goal. Just like you mentioned, they’d have to double up on Baka just like they do with Doku which leaves a central area/player unmarked at times.
We need that type of player because we’ve been too predictable over the last 2 seasons.
Mo still delivers the numbers but like you said, he’s actually declining in certain areas. His dribbles per match, take-ons, 1 on 1s and all that are regressing.

      @Larsd69 Před 11 dny

@@gltv1990 Don’t get me wrong, I still love and back Salah and I always will.
But we gotta think ahead, look at players like Doku, Bailey, Kudus, Gordon and even Madueke who’s been finding form.
These fast paced wingers can change games with their individual skills whenever the team’s system doesn’t work. Lucho has been doing a similar thing but doesn’t get enough recognition for it because the whole team’s been underperforming lately (especially in terms of xG)
I’ve been following Bakayoko and Doku since their Anderlecht days and I can say they’re very similar. The difference is Johan is more efficient and direct in the final third. While Doku might be a bit more exciting to watch, Johan gets more involved in terms of G/A and has the heigher ceiling. Johan reminds me of Salah when he first joined, the explosiveness, the unpredictability and the efficiency in the final third. (important to note that I’m not saying he’s as good as Salah, I’m saying his style of play and his characteristics remind me of how a young Salah used to play)
He’d also be a more fitting player given his smart pressing out of possession which Salah hasn’t been doing for the last 2 to 3 years.
It’s these types of wingers that can take on defenders and dribble with ease that will take over the PL. So my favorite signing would be Bakayoko, but I wouldn’t mind Nico Williams either if he changes his mind about his wages as he’s demanding 300k/week which is mental…

If the new manager can keep the best players together, we have a host of young top quality talent coming through and the lads brought in last season will have had a full season and a full preseason to go forward next season. If we sign a dominant CH with real pace and ability on the ball that will make a huge difference, we missed Matip massively this season. If the young lad Stephan Batejic manages to remain fit and gets a good preseason and a run of games he will make a difference, if not we need another number 6. We have an abundance of midfield talent to play any shape with attacking 8's or players used as a 10. We have so much talent and adaptability if we get more luck with injuries I see a very positive season ahead. For me sign one CH, maybe another 6 and for me another number 9 unless Danns can make that step up. Our biggest problem has been injuries so many times in key areas. Bolster the defence and keep them fit, sign a number 6, keep Jota fit all season and that makes a huge difference!

Lads, i get it 100% that we need to find a way of getting better control, and that a pretty straightforward way of doing this is haveing a settled defensive unit that you play week in week out. BUT you have to recognise the impact of the schedule and the need to deal with it. When you are playing every 3-4 days for months on end, you will need to manage injuries and tiredness and complete lack of coaching/training time. Arsenal seem to have got through the season with relatively few injuries, so unless we can show they are doing something in their style of play that reduces the impacts of the schedule, we have to assume they have just been lucky and in most seasons they would have been as badly hit by it as half the other teams in the Prem. City, simply have a huge squad and can get by better than most teams simply through that.

Do we need to sign a more defensive minded left back who's comfortable at LCB like Kelly from Bournemouth or Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen as examples? Help form a back 3 when 1 of either Trent pushes more centrally into midfield or when Bradley pushes high up as more of a wing back like Frimpong does at Bayer Leverkusen so that we're not caught out on the counter attack as much? Plus maybe play Gomez at right back when Robertson is in the team so he can tuck in to form a back 3 & allow Robertson to push really high wide left? Rotate our full backs depending on the opposition & tactics. Plus another DM is a must for me with Endo being more of a rotational option. Bajcetic still very young & is still developing physically so play him if & when need in aid of his development for senior football

Long Term: rethink our vision. Let it all flow from here. It needs serious thought. Get better buy in. Owners? Budgets? Infrastructure?
Example: vision might be to be the best team in Europe who wins the largest trophies. Strategy to implement the vision: how to win 3 CLs in the next 6 years? How we going to do it? Flipping the exam question another way: how are we going to close the gap on Real Madrid? They have 14, we have 6? So how we going to do it? At least aim high, focus on that. By winning, it builds muscle memory + winning mentality. The muscle memory spills over and we win. Main thing is to have a management team that is not satisfied after winning 2 Champion Leagues on the bounce. Vision….

I would be recruiting at CB (if Sepp is a no go), DCM, a reliable forward (fitness and scoring)

Sorry Endo is too limited for the 6 he can do a job in some games... but not enough, mac10 is also not a natural 6. 2 dms neede to cover injuries and fatigue loss if form etc and truly challenge... They will also give a proper shield to the defence.... Then next job is finishing and hitting the net for all forward players.... After that work on Jones Soboz and grav they are too timid and unfocused and sloppy far too often. I think the one important thing to acknowledge is that this obsession with unpredictabillity might have come as a result of the CL run in '22.
We really huffed and puffed our way to that finak but were too easy to control in an offensive sense. Yeah we would take a lot of shots (which we probably still do) but they would be low quality chances. That has changed for sure, our finishing issues this season haven't come from a lack of quality chances, just poor finishing by individual players.

One final commemt, sorry! I forgot to say this analysis/insight is superb. Thank you.
In relation to Slot, I do wonder whether the owners/Edwards are thinking that they may not change much this summer and see how things go.
For a club that is so surgical and counts every penny in the market, the injury situation is maddening. How can you be in a position where you are paying millions out a month to so many players that are not fit. That is a complete waste, especially when its through soft tissue issues.
I wonder whether the club will just see how good this squad is playing in a similar formation with slightly less intense strategy and see if those injuries for the likes of Robbo, Trent, Diogo and Ibou start to dissipate. If not, I can see them investing a lot in the medical side because it undermimes all of the savings from clever transfer fees. Especially when we keep seeing lads like Bajcetic, Gordon, Doak and maybe now Clark missing serious amounts of time!
Similarly, tactically was their an overreaction to Ancelotti saying in 2022 that we were very predictable? It feels like there has been a significant increase in being unpredictable by Ljinders and Jurgen since. I think Darwin was brought in to address that as was the "street football" stuff. Maybe nothing but the problems you guys cite from our desire to be unpredictable feels like it started then and maybe they want to see the impact of being a bit nore rigid under Slot.

We didn't take our chances with the strikers missing glaring opportunities time after time. When we miss the opposition only have to score one. Anyway, before all the 'experts' condemn Klopp's tactics, it was only six games ago we were top of the league. We fell off six games ago after 30 games.

I've been thinking for a while now that the way we set up is fundamentally flawed. We concede far too many good chances in games even when we've got 70% possession and it never feels like we're in control. it also encourages the opposition as they know they'll get chances. As much as I'ved loved Klopp, I do think that there's room for improvement with the new manager. I also think the erratic finishing will improve with a slightly more measured approach as well as being more defensively solid. I also think we need a bit more discipline and game management instead of just rigidly sticking to the plan in games where it blatantly isn't working.

We lost it at villa with 4 subs in one go and taking the stronger midfielders off in one go. Klopps done this a couple of times and it caused issues. We should’ve staggered the subs to let them get up to speed with the game. Poor defence is definitely an issue though their 2nd we just needed to clear it up the pitch not play out…
I also think we’ve been 2years with Klopps recruitment, albeit with a sporting director. The 2years previous when we were dominant was under Edwards strategy and I see this being the major factor. Not saying Klopp isn’t good but i think Edwards signings made that team and coupled with Klopps management they were ferocious

Liverpool need to learn to close out a game. Being 3-1 up against Villa and continue to play a high defensive line with players playing out of position still in a all out attack mode is asking for trouble as we have seen countless times this season. They need to learn to drop back slightly as a team stay in their shape and use our pace to exploit the attacking team as they will leave more space for us to attack in behind them.

I am certain we can do the same with our current midfield..... and please sort out what position Trent should play in and make him stick to it.

There’s a lot to sort out in each third of the pitch. Slot must have a headache already before he’s even arrived thinking about it! 1. Our defence has been all over the place. 2. The midfield is easy to play through just like last season. 3. If we can’t sort out finishing easy chances then some new front line players will be required.

we NEED a centre back, tbh i’d cash in on tsimikas, have gomez as backup LB then sign another centre back to be 3/4 choice after van dijk and konate. I really like zubimendi at sociedad as a dm, endo is good but not top class like rodri or rice, neither is zubimendi but he’s 24 so can get to that level. I’d debate signing a forward but only if a top class opportunity arises cus no point spending £75m+ on a player who’s not a guaranteed improvement, i still think gakpo has world class potential and he barely gets a game so adding another similar would be pointless. Maybe a young right winger to fight with harvey for RW in a year or 2 when salah goes

  • @aliverbirduponmychest3055

For me our front 3 have not pressed enough and cut out that ball over the top or they have allowed us to be played through. We have not been compact enough once that front 3 press hasn't performed and left us open to the fullbacks to be isolated

  • @adilchaudhrey3167
    @adilchaudhrey3167 Před 15 dny

Liverpool have a host of attack-minded and capable midfielders and a horrible lack of defensively-minded, capable and astute ones....and we combine that with a system of play with full backs pushing up or giveb free reign that exposes it badly....this has been obvious for 2+ seasons....the lack of proper cohesive defensive shape and structure properly resourced in midfield is why we can't dominate or control games. So often we are asked attacking midfielders to do a defensive role they will not be effective at...we need 2 athletic, powerful, quick, rangey dominant defensively capable midfielders brought in....and we need better shape and discipline in how our full-backs operate...
The other issue we have suffered from is that of just the high levels of sloppiness of passing and give-aways losing possession in our own half or defensive third with very few players behind tthe ball....the quality of passing under pressure ahd ability to keep the ball against the press hasnt been good enough and has created so many good transition opportunities fior the opposition.

Trent is a glaring weakness at RB. He's lazy and not concentrated at defending. I'd play him at RCM if he won't work harder at RB. The creativity should come from midfield. We also need a new forward player as Jota will always get injuries and Nunez/Diaz/Gakpo are not reliable finishers in high pressure games.
