    Simple ELI5 on how to play the game:
    Each card has 4 numbers. Ex: 1P01
    First number means: attack power
    Second letter means: attack type (M = magical or P = physical)
    Third number means: armor (physical defense)
    Fourth number means: magic defense
    With that numbers you'll know it's pretty straightforward. Bigger attack power > lower defense.
    Rng happens when you attack with a card that has equal or lower number than the defending card or vice versa. A lot of starter game cards are mostly 1s and 0s so it happens a lot early in the game which leads to the misconception that the entire card game is just RNG.

    • @MrMarket1987
      @MrMarket1987 Před měsícem +1

      A good way to simplify it, but also too simplified. P and M generally appear on that attack type, but there's also X and A. X targets the weaker of the two _defense_ stats. A targets _whatever is the weakest stat, whether it's an attack value or one of the defensive ones._ Also, pretty sure there's still RNG in bigger numbers, they're just not nearly as much of a factor the bigger the gap between combatting numbers and total stats are.

    There's sadly only two tangible rewards through and around this lovely if woefully unexplained minigame within the game itself unless you go out of your way for it. During the Treno card tournament, Eiko can get a Chimera Armlet for free in one of the ATEs. While winning the 3rd and final round nets you a Rebirth Ring... Aside from that, a nice little card game, really. But there really should have been more rewards for, say, beating people/masters a first time or multiple times to REALLY make it more compelling to play... And explain the FULL mechanics upfront!

    The most misunderstood card game. Many call it RNG because they dont undetstand how it works. But if you actually know what youre doing there is 0 RNG involved. RNG only happens if the attack and defense is the same, so each side has to roll the dice.

      @@xOmniCloudx it works like triple triad. Only difference is that attack and defense are separate numbers but it is for all sides instead of for 4 unique numbers for each direction like in triple triad. • @MrMarket1987

      It DOES have RNG. The HP/Number value as cards clash can in fact have a small but notable variety of results, though generally the higher the stat of a card vs the one it is being pitted against means it works in your favor more often than not.

    How did you get that many cards with many arrows ?

    • @MrMarket1987
      @MrMarket1987 Před měsícem +1

      Honestly, there's not a single card you can find/earn that can't come with more arrows than less. Each time you find one in a chest, get it handed over, or win it from battle, the number of arrows ranging from 0-8 is entirely random. That means, on average, you'll mostly get cards with 3-5 arrows unless you really take your time or even reset the game to get rarer cards with more arrows.

    its still so funny to me how the cards minigame in FF8 is 1. entirely optional 2. mostly very simple to play and 3. very rewarding in the overall wider game, and the cards minigame in FF9 is 1. mandatory to win at to progress at least once 2. needlessly complex and opaque mechanically 3. rewards basically nothing that has any use outside of playing cards and 4. the only card that does anything outside of the card game can be obtained without ever playing cards

    0:00 The Tetra Master card-game mini-game: The tutorial for it sucks, all the tutorial says is "Hey, figure out the rules on your own."
    Hey, screw you. You made up the rules, you tell me how to play. Don't give me a card with a bunch of random stuff on it and then expect me to immediately understand it. Even FFVIII explained its own card game, 'Triple Triad', not to mention it had better theme music when playing it, unlike IX's card-game music. With IX's card-game there's a half hour long tutorial to look up , and since the game doesn't come up much during the actual plot, the player isn't expecting to have to win a couple of games to progress the storyline. Moreover, playing it the way it looks like it ought to be played (stronger cards beat weaker ones) doesn't help you much, because there's some kind of random element to it, to the point where even FAQ writers haven't been able to fully figure out how the mechanics work. Back when PlayOnline still existed, at least it revealed that strength of the cards is based off their Hexidecimal Code values. However, despite that, there is an RNG factor in the game that has such a range to it that the stats could border on meaningless. The one time you're forced to play it to progress the plot (in Treno on Disk 3) is the only time in the entire game where being good at it gets you anything besides more useless cards.

      All it needs is for its values and how they work to be explained upfront. FF Wiki explains what they do. It's only jank because the game itself tries SO little to explain it overall, and low numbers are prone to WAY more RNG clashes compared to cards with bigger gaps clashing.

      That's sad, I rather liked it. FF wiki explains it further than the game does, in case you're ever willing to give it another shot. Granted, I completely understand that there's almost no rewards to it at all, so that's a very fair reason to not touch it past the bare minimum the story demands.
