    That isn't the battery compartment, it the card slot cover (you can even read the text "card open" in the images). The battery will the same format as the 1DXIII and the R3.
    Also, the ON/OFF switch on the bottom right corner isn't the on/ff switch for the camera, it is there to turn the vertial controls on and off, same as is on the 1DXIII and the battery grip for the R5 etc (sadly this control is missing from the R3).

Right now, it's appears to more likely the R5ii, but picture angles can be Tricky. What would be so COOL, if this was a PRO Body Cropped 40MP stacked sensor Camera. I don't think this is the R1. I'm thinking the R5 II or R3 II. That battery door, if I'm looking where you're looking, is the door for the memory cards. The 1DX III battery slides out of the bottom, with the side of the battery integrating into the side of the camera. I don't see this. The fact that Canon has discontinued the BG-R10 grip makes me believe that we might get a built-in grip with the R5 II. One can hope. I would love this. If this camera is a bit thicker, it could be to accommodate (2) CF Express Type B cards. I hope we get some more leaked photos and a development announcement later this week. I'm getting excited! Thanks, Simon!

    @JaredRibic Před 23 dny +1

    I always thought area around the top LCD on the R3 looked a bit empty. Canon added a white balance button, and it looks like one of the buttons could be used for crop.
    Many people will be glad to be able to use a hand-grip type of strap with the R1. The R3 was lacking that strap fastening bar connection on the bottom.
    Nice that they brought back an actual on/off SWITCH for the grip. On the R3 you had to go through the menu system to turn it on/off.
    Locking mechanism for the hotshoe cover is well overdue!
    I didn't even notice the battery door until you mentioned it. I'm typing (and pausing the video) as I'm watching.
    FULL SIZE HDMI - YES!!!
    The smaller size of the camera could be due to a new battery design.
    Hopefully Canon has a smaller battery charger as well. The charger for the R3 is enormous, and only charges one battery at a time.
    The 4-axis LCD would be awesome. Canon needs to catch up in that regard.

  • @RockPolitics
    @RockPolitics Před 23 dny +2

    Deep...DEEP price cut on the R3, but nothing on the R1? That could be the biggest clue to the identity of this camera. (Or not 😁) In pretty much every industry, when a new model is coming out, the existing model gets discounted ahead of time so the company doesn't get caught holding too much inventory. Whatever the name of this camera will be, it really does seem like Canon expects it to have a big effect on the demand for the R3. It could just mean that they have already trimmed their stock of 1DXIII's.
    There are also some different kinds of clues in those photos. That lens has an 82mm filter, compared to 77mm for lenses like the 50mm F/1.2. That may seem like a small difference, but it's going to tend to make the body look a bit smaller. Maybe since it's equipment that Canon put in his hands for free he's less worried about protecting it?
    I don't know who that photographer is holding the unidentified Canon camera. But from the pictures I could find, I'm pretty sure it's not Federico Basile. Now... I find it a little curious that he's shooting without a hood on that lens. I know... some people are going to say they never shoot with a hood... but there's more. The 85mm is one of the few RF L-Series lenses I don't have, so I can't be sure, but it doesn't look like he has any sort of filter on it either.
    I find it even more curious that he would be shooting practice runs/qualifying from the stands, with an 85mm lens. He's behind plexiglass, so he's in the stands and most of the "standard" spectator seats have wire mesh in front, so this would be consistent with a photographer/press area. So, okay, he's shooting the pit area right below. But doesn't that make it seem odd that he would have the camera pointed upward? Don't say the angle is deceptive - he's behind plexiglass and clearly shooting over the top of it. Not only that, but look at the shadows on the body of the camera - especially the shadow from the knurled dial. He appears to have the camera pointed almost directly into the sun. Ummm... why?
    He's shooting manual at 1/8000, wide open, and ISO 125. Makes sense for action shots, less so for capturing scenery with an 85mm. The display has a battery indicator, and his is at 99% (could be 98%, it's hard to be sure). So he's changed the battery very recently. But his glass is filthy. I don't know about you, but when I change a battery I take a couple of seconds to clean the lens - it's a habit, and I'm not a professional sports shooter.
    So do I think those shots were staged? None of the above proves anything but, yeah, I kinda do - whether it's with Canon's blessing or not.

    Moving the ON-OFF switch to the right side / edge of the camera and forcing you to use two fingers to turn it on/off . . . just when I was getting used to (and liking) the R3's location! That's a change I don't like . . . but it very likely means they are using that real estate on the back of the camera for something else. I wonder what.

    Your tease about the these pics possibly being an R5MkII may not be crazy, though this probably is the R1. I commented yesterday in your R5 Specs video about what I found to be an interesting comment Canon Rumors made in their R5 Mark II post., They said to "look at this patent breakdown from last week, some of the things listed there are coming. Just pay attention the the body type in the patent drawings". That patent drawing showed a body type with a built in battery grip so that made me think the new R5 may come with a built in battery grip. It is suspicious since they discontinued the battery grip for the R5. I personally prefer the lighter weight/bulk without it but as you noted it the whole cam could be a little smaller.

    @vaskoobscura_ Před 22 dny

    It’s an optical illusion. Apple and Fuji do that with their products too. The make the outer edge, in this case the camera top plate, thinner than the body to make it appear to be slimmer. That’s my guess.

  • @GalacticoUC

    For me is the R5mII the size doesn't match with the R1 on the teaser. Maybe this new camera will have dedicated video features so it will be the replacement for the R5 and maybe the R5C. That explains the bulky size

    @AnastasTarpanov Před 23 dny

    I was discussing this already with Canon Rumors on X and they blocked me. I just said that the HDMI is not needed in cameras unless you want to connect it to a TV. For monitoring, recording etc. the USB-C is way better. What Nikon made with Z8 and double USB-C is the best solution and I don't know why all other companies also recorders and monitors haven't moved to USB-C entirely.

    Not so much regarding the adult-sized HDMI port, a necessity for any camera above a certain price-point IMHO, but the diet this R1 seemingly appears to have gone on; does this reflect pressure from the A1? Does this represent a movement away from the classic Canon design language? That seems rather a shame that this vaunted marque has succumbed in some way to the upstart Sony. Any hint of an RJ45 port? I'd expect that from any flagship.
