    karen Asche should be in the finals. This song is a winner 'Poverty is no damn excuse for crime'. This song is relevant and pertinent to the time. Good song, Karen.

    This is an excellent song and powerful message. The only thing is, the visual examples of persons who came from poverty would have more impact if they were kept local. Swap Oprah out, she doesn't have the best reputation and we have many local women who have amazing rags to riches stories...

    Go and tell the people of Haiti that...guess they should just sit and pray till they died... I'm sti waiting to hear how they will survive...as Sparrow say we all have to fight for survival.. additionally this theme is so beat up and over use... Nakasha and Naiomi were faaaaaaaar better

      @@juanestadian8471 and ur point is?? Hungry has no grace period.. go and tell that to any starving person who cant find a job, cant pay their rent and ain't have a cent as she herself said...tell what is their option?? As Sparrow sang is his master piece man's nature is always to fight for survival. U all are dodging the real issue...both leaders have done very little to address the poverty situation. Why doesn't use address them!! She wont be cause like many calypsonians they have political ties and so will dance around the issue. This is why I have such great respect for Kurt Allen one of the few authentic calypsonians left...forget who is in power and address the issue..Karene was selected on name not one song bcuz Nakasha and Naiomi had much better songs and performances than Karene...it's time we start rewarding song and not artiste. And guess what after this JACKASS PRESIDENT QUEEN, I MEAN KING spoke all this crap about political songs should vanish ppl like Karene will prevail...no wonder Trinidad has lost the true authentic calypsoes bcuz those that are authentic are being silence while contradictory songs like Karene get through.

    • @juanestadian8471
      @juanestadian8471 Před 5 měsíci

      @@Arranger-ef7pg sparrow is not the same one who sang about education.......and did not Kurt Allen talk about incompetent nd delinquent parents? As i told you, there were more hungry people in the 80s when we were in the hands of a debilitating IMF program where a quarter of the public service lost their jobs(that was the and still is the qualifying standard of the IMF structural adjustment programs) and Trinidad's unemployment rate reached 25%. The murder rate was a tenth of what it is today. How do you explain that?

    • @Arranger-ef7pg
      @Arranger-ef7pg Před 5 měsíci

      @@juanestadian8471 exactly...ur correct!! He stressed the importance of education bcuz he knows once u end up in poverty then u stand little chance except to fight for survival. 1000000000 percent re Kurt Allen...if these leaders were running the country right then you wouldn't have to defend Karene now.
      Last year Karene had a gem of a song called "Oasis" but this year she is singing a junior song that has been sung time and time again so makes it even weather bcuz it's cliched. U keep talking about the 80s, was cost of living sky high like now?? Karene was the same one who sang, "We cannot wait on no messiah", but guess now we must wait for a messiah to feed these impoverished people instead of them resorting to breaking the law to survive.... any secondary school psychology book will tell you that there is a direct connection between poverty and crime, yet you all playing blind..keep not addressing the poverty issue and let's see what will happen to us down line..well it has already started. The crime rate will be tripled what it is now.
      Again I ask, what do someone who is unemployed, cant pay their rent and doesnt have a cent do?? Wait till someone brings them food by which time they would have starved to death!! Stop defending what you know is wrong..technically Karene she is correct..it's not an excuse, it's a legitimate reason for crime not an excuse.
      This junior over sung theme should NEVER HAVE BEEN IN THE FINAL ahead of Nashanka and Naiomi..bias judging got her there and feeling this is some kind of big song when there are better songs in the juniors than this.

      @@Arranger-ef7pg chances are, in Trinidad, if you have a school leaving certificate and some form of post secondary education, you’re not unemployed. You may be underemployed, but you’re not unemployed. The unemployment rate in TT is 3.7%, which may be underestimated, but the unemployment rate is certainly not much more than that currently. As I said, TT has poverty, and the last few years haven’t been easy, especially because of the pandemic, a global event, but we don’t have many people starving

  • @Arranger-ef7pg

    That's against all odd part 2... Where there is poverty there will be crime....karene said they hungry, cant find employment, not a cent in his pocket....what does he do? Stay and starve?? He will steal to survive... why not address the real issue which is how the leaders neglect the crime.... the tempo is way too fast....she should be left at Skinner Spark... Not her best vocals and performance either..

      @juanestadian8471 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @Arranger-ef7pg hoss is trinidad. most ppl not missing meals. Ironically, in the late 80s when so many ppl were actually hungry that the NAR started to establish soup kitchens when TT was in the hands of the IMF, we didn't have free education, nursey to tertiary and we didn't have the level of criminality we have now. In fact the murder rate was about a tenth of the about it is now

      @@juanestadian8471You clearly mistake one song that spoke to triumph over adversity with another that challenges status quo thinking by the long held mistaken views by people like you that if ah poor and broken to thief then ah should tief.
      When cro cro sang "chop off dey hand" he was challenging another status quo thinking while celebrating triumph over adversity.
      Great calypso's challenges status quo thinking, Karene is doing this again as she did when she presented "careful what you ask for".cause you might just get it eh, and when you get it, do blame police and politicians eh, blame yourself, you asked for it. So I, like Karene reminds me, and I now remind you to please be careful what you ask for.

    • @juanestadian8471

      @@learriebarry3715 Cro Cro didn't challenge the status quo. He celebrated the achievement of the girl, while addressing the failures and indiscipline among youth in the corridor, who lost the discipline that was their before through broken homes and imitation of self destructive foreign cultures. And he was right. Black people do not have a predisposition towards crime and criminality. If that was the case Point Fortin(which is mostly black) would be one of the most dangerous communities in the country, and we all know its one of the safest. That is what cro cro was addressing: systemic failures in the families, mostly in the east west corridor which resulted in exam failures, lack of supervision, and the final destination of the grave or the prison. The fact is that the state provides sufficient opportunities for people to make something of yourself. They don't even tax you if you decide that you cannot fulfil your dreams in TT.
