Many people think it’s about playing with trees and shaping trees but it’s not so simple. I have to sweep. Then proceeds to play and shape trees for the rest lol 😂

I agree with the unsealing. I’ve seen videos of people extremely worried about sealing their cuts, and carving them so they heal over as quickly as possible. But these cuts add characteristic. I purposely dug one out in hopes one day it will look like a home for wildlife. They add age and hardship to the trees making them appear ancient as they’ve survived all the once in a century storms.

I tend to get excited when I see my trees coming back to life and will end up leaving them to grow and try to play catch-up in the summer which usually means they become lanky, with little ramifications. I hope I've just learned a new skill from you and see more fruitful results. Thank you sir.

Here the day is March 18th and all of my trees have leaved out. Every single one. Tridents, Dawn Redwoods, Chinese elms, Japanese Maples, etc... so its a bit late to prune back shoots at the moment, even though I did some prior to the buds breaking, you just dont know sometimes if you went far enough until after they start shooting. I wish I had gone further on my Dawn Redwoods...they need much, much more ramification. I'm now trying to plan out fertilizing, whether to feed in a few weeks, or wait until later to try to get shorter nodes...

I personally wouldn't recommand cutting your trees when you see buds on them in the early spring, because by cutting them than you stop a hormonal process inside the tree and make it weaker for the rest of the growing season. Wait till the end of spring as your trees have fully flushed out.

  • @pattyatrumdycreations134

I am an interior landscaper. I maintain tropical plants in corporate buildings. The thing we do pretty much everyday is prune. We prune carefully at an out side node to promote growth to grow out rather than in towards the main trunk. Yet , you just snip with abandoned. Is it different pruning a bonsai than other plants?
